🦤 Re:wild and Colossal Biosciences have partnered to revolutionize what it looks like to restore species! Combining Colossal’s de-extinction science and technology with Re:wild’s expertise in wildlife conservation and community engagement, we can accelerate the restoration of Critically Endangered species, and bolster the planet's health in a new and unprecedented way.
Together we have developed a 10-year conservation strategy to work with local partners to:
🔸 Protect and restore threatened species on the brink of extinction using the de-extinction technology that Colossal is developing to bring back the iconic Thylacine, Dodo, and Woolly Mammoth as re-built species
🔸 Reintroduce 30+ key species with local partners
🔸 Search for and protect at least 50 lost species
Where conservation and cutting-edge technology combine: ‪@Rewild‬ x ‪@itiscolossal‬

What you guys are doing is so cool. I really hope one day being able to see a thylacine alive in the wild.

When will the extinct species return?
@Daralexen
@Daralexen Месяц назад
@gryffonouneige9682 They promised the Woolly Mammoth by 2028, Thylacine by 2027, and the Northern White Rhino by the end of this year. There is no time frame for the Dodo yet to my knowledge.

Can we get an update on the current stage of thylacine restoration. Youve given a rough finish date but how are things at this moment?

We are proud to announce that our Thylacine team, consisting of 30+ devoted scientists, has already achieved significant milestones. These include: - Being the first to derive pluripotent stem cells in Dunnarts, propelling Colossal toward advanced in-vitro functional workflows as well as establishing state-of-the-art conservation and genomic preservation capabilities in all marsupials. - Establishing multiplex editing pipelines in Dunnart fibroblast cell lines for the initial identified edits which provide the framework for developing the Thylacine hypercarnivore craniofacial morphology. - Successfully prototyping artificial ex-utero development for early-stage marsupial gestation. We're excited about these accomplishments and will continue to push forward in our mission to bring the Thylacine back to life! 🇦🇺🐅

My favorite animal is the mammoth. It's hard to believe that it could be brought back, so I'm excited. It will be a history of humanity. I just hope it's real and not a fantasy to attract the media spotlight.

I just saw a video about a 90 million year old volcano caldera in Madagascar that was covered with forest. 15 years ago a group of people cleared the land and now they grow citrus and other crops. It made me wonder what ancient species lived there, calamites, mini elephant birds, seed ferns, a new species of Araucaria,? If there is anything left it will be gone soon. One commenter said small groups of people are finding remote places to settle. I'm 76 and disabled otherwise I would get my butt over there and save something from extinction. Thank you for doing the work many of us would like to do but can't

You are absolutely right. The biggest problem here is overcoming the barbaric attitude of local communities who, by fate, live in these regions. I led the restoration of the river estuary and the habitat of migratory fish in one of the Eastern European countries. We cleaned up the water area, cleared the bottom of silt, and widened the migration path. The fish returned and reproduced. But the next year, local poachers set nets on its migration path. The only solution is if developed countries take a tougher stance. For example, any international financial and material aid could be denied to countries like Madagascar, where less than 30% of the territory is occupied by national parks.

Do you plan to aid in the conservation of the Baiji? It is tied with the Vaquita for the most endangered and rarest marine mammal and is considered a national treasure of its home country, China.

We owe Mother Nature an apology for what we did to animals such as the Thylacine. The Thylacine was falsely accused of killing sheep and chickens in Tasmania, when in reality it was likely the dogs and other invasive species that the Europeans brought with them that were responsible for the killings. As if that wasn’t enough, bounties were placed on Thylacines (I think it was $1 per animal) Over 2,000 bounties were claimed, though it’s believed that many more Thylacines were simply killed. The cherry on top was that the last known Thylacine, a male specimen named Benjamin, is said to have died of neglect at an Australian zoo in 1936. He was apparently locked out of his shelter a lot of the time. This led to him being subjected to roasting temperatures during the day, and chilly conditions at night. Cause of death was likely exposure. Did I mention that this was just two months after the Thylacine was finally made a protected species? To me, the Thylacine’s story is one of the worst cases of an animal being gaslit into extinction, if not the worst.

This does not even exclusively apply to the Thylacine, many endangered species of sharks have been persecuted in similar manners such as the Ganges River Shark, the only exclusively freshwater shark on Earth.

@@Daralexen We humans have treated sharks badly for a long time. Around 100 million sharks a year are killed, many of them have their fins cut off while the sharks are still alive. After the fins are removed, the half dead shark is simply tossed back into the ocean. This is to supply the shark fin soup trade. On the other hand, sharks only kill an average of 5 people a year globally. You’re far more likely to be killed by another human than a shark.

We need this bio technology implemented into the pacific nw spring salmon and steelhead fisheries specifically into our hatchery and broodstock programs
@jasonsablan670
@jasonsablan670 3 месяца назад
Please someone look into this. The spring king salmon has a specific gene different from the fall kings. I think it’ll benefit the declining population of salmon/steelhead here in the PNW which is desperately needed. Cause whatever the status quo now, isn’t working.
