Loved National Geographic for many years. Love that they stick to their integrity, ethics, good stories and being one of the few genuine things out there. Amen.
@Soular Events But regardless of that opinion, what they have shared and are allowed to share and what they are allowed to do and allow us to partake of, has been helpful and I, for One, an grateful. Thanks.
The issue is unsustainable development, we have such little land that we can sustainably use without harming the environment but we keep building huge parking lots, sprawling single family housing developments, golf courses, and gigantic highways. The solution is sustainable, dense housing and transit to use as little land as possible so we can preserve the beautiful landscape we have.
I am so disgusted with all the destruction of natural land and wildlife here in SW Florida over the last 5 years! BUILD, BUILD, BUILD and MORE BUILDING! It makes me sick! People USED to come to Florida to enjoy the natural beauty and the amazing "paradise" unlike anywhere else in the US. ALL THE RICH PEOPLE FROM NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, and the NE states are FUNDING the DESTRUCTION of SW Florida. IN THE NEXT 7 to 10 yrs FLORIDA WILL BE JUST ANOTHER NEW YOUR CITY< CHICAGO
Or STOP: Expanding roads, letting non -natives move in, unrestricted pumping from the aquifer (regardless of availability, since there will inevitably be drier years) Nobody listens, too much to bear for most people, so by the time it's too late....
The solution is to stop the overpopulation. I live in Pinellas County that is building and continues to build the way you are talking about. Urbanization, Smart Growth, what ever you want to call it. Continuing to build multi-million dollar condo's and "LUXURY" multi-family residences on a tiny peninsular completely surrounded by salt water and dead ends everywhere with a million people and counting all crammed in like sardines in a can, I will guarantee you, is no quality of life. It is driving up the cost of housing creating more homelessness and gentrification. Overpopulation is no way to live. And it is mostly you millennials who want this. You're so busy thinking that you are solving all the problems that you think the boomers created, you're creating your own problems. You've jumped up the price of housing and increased homelessness and gentrification. How are you going to fix the problems you created?
So glad there are people out there who are committed to keeping Florida wild. Some days it feels like the big real estate investors from out-of-state are pulling Florida right out from under us.
Happy to see folks who are committed to conservation. I have been there once in vacation and I love the place. Floridians are lucky and should be proud that they live around a unique nature.
Nice to see this "other" side of Florida, the one you rarely "hear" about. Florida is "known" for its beaches, resorts, attractions, amusements, cruise ships, sports, the everglades, and some crazy people and some politics. You never hear about ranchers or loggers or checkerboard or the wildlife corridor, etc. Sounds like they have a preserved land program similar to other states, so hopefully the state government is funding it sufficiently.
You can thank Carlton Ward for his efforts cause he's the one who's made the most significant impact establishing the corridor. Buy some of his artwork. It's very nicely done.
i dont think so, i think natur is entirly possible to be wiped out, extinct forever, but many species will survive, grass will always be popular and grows wild, ants are everywhere, bacteria are quite common.
I love being a Floridian(Orlando )we have Forrest lakes oceans swamps rivers natural springs Everglades, hills tropical fruits, rare animals people ,sunshine year round. It’s like paradise. But soon I fear the beautiful animals will suffer the most.
@@jordanalexander8099 Start by growing your own food! It sounds like a little change. But it will take pressure off environmental damage from agriculture, make you healthier, and save you money.
😢 too many people come here already, not caring about the way they act or drive or whatever. Not to mention the people that are born here, not caring about the beauty around us. We have to do better.
Nicely done! If our State legislators had not passed regulations that allow Counties to means to provide the same services as Cities, through MSBUs & MSTUs, there might not be as much scattered development (urban sprawl). It would be more center out growth. That in itself might have saved a lot of natural open spaces or at least more land for environmental easements.
yes that's right, in Indonesia too.. a lot of trees cutting, burning forests, they reason to economic needs, yes that's right but that doesn't mean we cut down trees and clear the forest for our stomach needs, that's not true, the government must find a solution to create jobs so that it is evenly distributed in all area so that humans don't need to cut down trees again for various reasons.
Oh gosh my heart is breaking I’m not from Florida but has been my favorite destination. I would vote no more toll roads. No more housing communities due to wild life being extinct. KEEP FLORIDA WILD!
@@gewizz2 Mother nature will stop us eventually, whether by supervolcano, super virus or what... Just idk why she's waiting so long, with so many species going extinct all the time... and even if yes, Nature always finds a way/ has survived Way way worse than whatever we throw at it/ tear it up
@@gewizz2 You my good sir or madame are the pinnacle of the species, truly. Thank you for enlightening my spirit with such a profound thought... But really, you must be the absolute Life of the party anywhere you go right? XD
We need to save Florida there's way too much building going on when there is so many empty buildings not even occupied and they ain't building regular buildings they're building factories warehouses monster size Mega buildings. God bless Mother Nature
Houses should be the last thing we put on these lands... they are going be flooded in the next 100 years... Agriculture, Ranching and Conservation are Floridas best bets...
They are talking about 2070. What about the ravages brought by the likes of Hurricane Ian and rising oceans? Great problems in the short term for humanity.
2:27 Don’t you'realize that the great spotted woodpecker doesn't live in Florida or the entire New World. Good job National Geographic, don’t you think it’s lame?
Don't worry. When the seas start to claim the land, they'll all move to Mar-a-Largo, which will not submerge in water for reasons known to many people! 🤣🤣🤣
The politicians aren't the ones doing it. Local conservation groups have been raising money since 2010 to buy land as well as working with ranchers and landowners to create conservation easements that will never be developed. They get a tax break and still get to use their land in a environmentally friendly way, working with biologists and agriculture extension agents.
As long as Florida remains a Republican stronghold, the corridor is in peril. Unfortunately, DeSantis has proven that _conservative_ does not equal _conservationist._
@@BullRed12 I agree Bull. Desantis knows that Florida’s environment is what draws the visitors and is why we have no state in one tax. Unfortunately, I must agree that sea level rise will make all of this a moot point within the next 100 years
@@gewizz2 No they couldn't, Florida is much larger and they would need an endless amount lot of barriers, plus their state government has no regulations to build something of that scale properly.
