Water clocks, printing press, gundpowder, rocket technology, large scale cavalry use, all originate in asia, mostly in china and india before it ever reached europe. Modern medicine traces back to rome but was lost to europe and progressed in the middle east by muslim scholars, as did a lot of faulty aristotelan science, both of which were brought back from the crusades and translated by spanish scholars who were rather used to dealing with arabic courtesy of the moors. Generally the aristotelan science was a pretty harsh holdback for europe and the middle east, but the middle east got over it a bit quicker and started quesioning it so were able to innitiate progression. Large intercontinental fleets was a chinese thing, and while there's still no real solid evidence they ever went east to the west coast of the americas, during much of their history they did send massive superfreighters full of trade goods to the arabian penissula and ethopia, netting larger profits than rellying exclusively on the silk road due to the fact they were able to create fleets of silly big blue sea fairing vessels. China was also pretty big on cultural colonization but rome did thaat too and even people after rome did it-there's a reason why prussians became german catholics after the tuetonic knights conquered them, because it sure wasn't the natives abandoning their blatic pagan heritage. They were so resistance the tuetonic knights did the next thing that was approved by the church when missionaries failed-imported so many german colonists the natives became a minority that they could ignore. So while a fair amount of modern things have a direct route back to european inventions, most of said european inventions existed elsewhere long before-not all were imports, some were just europeans coming up with the idea on their own centuries later(printing press being a prime example, as the reason it succeeded so much more in europe was because the latin lettering system was more concise than the chinese, so it was much less tedious to use, even if china had had it for centuries already). While they went on to develop it further(With a large amount of help from non-europeans mind you, scientists aren't exclusviely western), the ideas they used were far from originally there's. Course same goes or romans really, romans were good at innovation moreso than invention-most things they used were invented by others, adopted by them, and often tweaked and improved in variants. The decline of the roman empire was actually alongside the decline in such innovations as they halted forward progress and refused new ideas from outsiders, which excentuated the host of other economic, political, and environmental issues.

asians were building universities, fleshing out mathematics, innovating military tactics and forming large, single realms while europeans were planting beans and burning anyone with a brain at the stake.

It’s at turn 57 though. I don’t think he just gave away all his settlements. Though you’re right, most Total War players stop once their campaign starts to look like it’s going bad.

I am playing Rome: Total War with Darthmod as the House of Julii. I currently own about 11-12 provinces (Don't remember off the top of my head). I make sure to honor ceasefire treaties for many years. Usually, it's the AI that breaks it. Spain betrayed its alliance with me and attacked me. Anyway, I make about 20,000 a turn from my provinces. Seleucids and Thrace are the big guns of this game (by province number). Egypt took down Parthia and Seleucids took away all land from Egypt except for Cyprus. Thrace took down Germania with the help of Britannia (though they aren't allies). Then they declare war on me (they don't hate me though), though I did nothing to them. Later on, even though I took out 3 huge armies they sent down, they come and tell me to become their protectorate. Of course, I refuse, but the audacity to ask someone to become a puppet when they are beating you.

note that the campaign ai is slightly broken because in diplomacy you can only demand the other faction to be vassal, you can't offer yourself to be a vassal. the code works correctly, and the ai will accept vassalization if sufficiently overpowered, but sometimes they try to be proactive so they demand that YOU become their vassal but in contrary THEY want to become YOUR vassal but no such diplomatic item exists so the only thing they can do is ask YOU to become THEIR vassal, hope this clears it up for everyone

Why does it matter if it's a real scenario? We are watching these to see how Legend gets out of these awful situations, not laugh at how pathetically incompetent some of these players are. The fact that people send in staged ones just makes it so Legend actually has a challenge and it's interesting, rather than where a competent player got themselves into a situation where 5 minutes of Legend winning a difficult battle for them is all we get.

You've never seen 9 year olds play games, did you?

The Onderonian It matters because Legend doesn't want to play staged scenarios. He has made this very clear in many of his videos and when people ignore him and do it anyway it ends up wasting all of our time when we have to watch or skip through the parts of his videos where he reiterates for the hundredth time that he is not at all interested in playing staged scenarios.

@@khorps4756 but surely it has to do with deteriorating public order right? It's not like the Civil War mechanic in Rome 2 for example

not sure it really matters because it will still pop up in settlements that you have garrisoned and happy, it's just random from my experience

After about 10 turns if you lose a settlement to rebels as England the Barons alliance will spawn. The severity of the problem varies but can be quite annoying when you lose more than 3-4 settlements at once. I have seen AI England lose half of their Empire on one go. High risk areas are settlements that are closest ones to other culture zones because they usually start at 75% to 25% ratio. You can even avoid the entire event if you manage your public order properly.

It’s basically a campaign mechanic created by the developers to make the campaign harder for England, since they have such a huge advantage over the other factions. Although, it is loosely based on real history with the Montfort Rebellion. The Baron’s Alliance pops when English generals with low loyalty and English settlements with low English culture and public order rebel against England. They have the same unit roster as England, since they are basically an English rebel faction. They keep the campaign from getting boring and challengeless when you play as England. They rarely have more than a few armies and settlements at a time, but they can be quite a nuisance if you manage your settlements poorly. It’s kind of a precursor to the revolutionary factions that would pop up in Empire Total War.
