I've had the privilege and good fortune to see SB in concert dozens of times, since 1972, in many places, in several countries. So many great musicians and vocalists have been part of Kim's creations. Here it is a half century later and i'm hearing the band in Canajoharie, NY tonight (august 2021). I never try to guess what songs i will hear from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, or current album. Savoy Brown's blues have "kept me holding on."
Chris Youlden, the singer they had two guys previous, said the whole British Blues revival thing turned out to be such a shame. Maybe if SB had gotten their due as much back home as in the states, things might've been different. Singers leave for different reasons, though. I think Dave Walker here was their best known and even he left after three good albums. Funny you mentioned Mac since that's just where he went to record an album right after this.
This CD (yes) is in my six disk player today, as we speak. My sisters boy friend, who was in a band, pointed to this album in a record store in 1974. "Buy this one", he said. End of story.
Song written by Dave Walker...one of the best cuts on the album. What a band they were in the 70's. Edit: I should have specified - Denim Demon. Totally love that song. Makes me want to get the band back together and cover this again.
I pretty much stayed with Savoy Brown even though you never had any idea who the personnel was going to be with the next album. How lucky was Simmonds to have had Lonesome Dave and Chris Youlden as his lead singer(s) on separate albums. Both were a perfect match for where Kim was musically at each incarnation. Anyone who was 'In' on Savoy Brown always loved to turn new people on to them. They usually said something like " Dude these guys are great- where the hell did they come from.Lions Share was one of their best . Thanks a ton for the memories!
Luv 'em all, with Raw Sienna being my fave. Saw Simmons and Savoy Brown at the Charlesgate in Boston in the early 1990s. It was a hotel lounge, and the band was a bit disappointing, but Simmons played well. I fully understand the need to earn a living, as some great players, despite their notoriety, never get past it. It was not held in a great venue, and frankly, not everything; not every band works, and you cant hide anything when playing live. Simmons is an all-time great, as is Savoy Brown!
Ya know-Someone gave me a Copy of Boogie Bros...couple years ago. i have heard a few Savoy Brown tunes in my life. at 52 im Glad i found this Band so late in life What a Great Fukkin Band!!! i can't Get Enough !!!
Probably the best band ever. I saw them twice - once at Toby Jug Blues Club in Tolworth Surrey and once at University of Hull. Totally brilliant, I am an old man of 60 now and I adore them.
I got to see Savoy Brown back in the 70s early 70s when they did Hellbound train and they did a really good job on it I never got to see Lonesome Dave though
@@danielcasaray2567 I never saw Dave Walker either 🎵 darn it but when I saw them tour behind this album they had Jackie Lynton on vocals and they were so good.! Rock on 🙏😷🎶❗👀
my favorite time seeing savoy brown in PGH for their savage return album tour and opening up for Roy Buchanan at the number one concert voted many years in a row... the Stanley theater 👈
One Fine album,Got to be the best Blues,Rock album.Kim Simmonds-Lead Guitar,Harmonica,Dave Walker-Vocals,Paul Raymond-Keyboards,Guitar,Andy Pyle-Bass,Dave Bidwell-Drums.Who could ask for anything more.......Super
Damn good album! The singing rocking blues with harmonica, organ and piano. The whaling guitars, slide, drums and all. I mean, whats not to like. All good songs too. Thanks so much for this awesome upload. :D
Listening to ( Love Me Please! ) , On The Lions Share LP , I think this is where KIM SIMMONS Does his best BLUES 💙 WORK ! , So Many different Movements , All across His Guitar 🎸 , I Mean Stop and listen carefully , And try to compare with Someone else's Work ! , You won't find it Anywhere !
Tell mamas still one of my faves il play n sing it people say wow good song when did you write that song that's funny now and then people go Savoy who was that guy oh yeah savoy brown street talking? Love them clean sounding guitars on a lotta songs now that's really nicely done then again thay get down and play there asses off great band
@@johnsennett1690 did you see Kim an Co in early to mid 80s was scorching pedal to the metal hard supercharged rock , they came several times a year during that time , i saw them a lot of those times he was slingin a red sg plugged straight into jcm800 playing raw wailing howling Roaring heart pounding slide guitar yet so incredibly melodic an musical in full blown hard rock , when i think of blues an rock , Kim Simmonds 1st outta whats left of the ol memory bank . ** also his Tone was bringing the amp just to the clip w master vol down low an vol up for a really cool blooming kind of electric blur , not real clean not heavy overdriven
# 8 Love Me Please: One of the greatest blues songs ever captured on vinyl. Sublime blues deftly executed by consummate musicians who understood that “The whole is greater than its parts”. A true work of blues art. Credit is also due to the studio engineers and final mastering. Blues at it’s finest!
Totally agree! In a lifetime of great, beautiful, fantastic blues by the great Kim Simmonds this one stands out as a true masterpiece ! So true lyrics, guitar blues and piano, so poignant . So overlooked but will always stand the test of time! ,
I actually want to update my first comment that I made earlier that I was 16 years old when I got this album lionshare and I got a lot of other albums by them two at that time and I really appreciated Kim Simmonds guitar playing I think you did one of the best guitarists it's ever come along
Great album among many...I use to have my younger cousin play this album everyday for 2 summers as my alarm clock......sure put me in a great frame of mind to go see the world..thanks for the spin around the block ☺
I was introduced to Savoy Brown up at Butch's place. I had just dropped a quarter hit of orange sunshine and all of the people at the party and I listened to "Street Corner Talking" all night long and all I did was laugh all the time.
Had my future plans all fine and nice And then i found out just the other day I was a fool, i should have realized You treated everyone that way Now i'm telling you I'm hurting bad inside I got my point of view That kind ain't really nice The blues is a lonesome feeling Yes and i tried not to let it go The blues is the saddest feeling That i know You said you didnt want the kind of man That other people can push or shove around Let me tell you baby try to understand Yeah i did the very best i can I lie awake at night I can't sleep anymore Give me one more chance That's all i'm asking for The blues is a lonely feeling And i'm trying not to let it show The blues is the saddest feeling That i know (God help me…….) Solo I lie awake at night I can't sleep anymore Give me one more chance for all The blues is a lonesome feeling And i'm trying not to let it show The blues is the saddest feeling That i know That i know That i know That i know Las letras las saqué del cajón de tu mamá
Hall of fame band, hall of fame music. My gawd I was only17 when I first heard this masterpiece. I can't believe I lost this at some point in my life and now here I am....again! Man am I ever grateful to you for sharing this special joy. It's like running into an old, long lost dear friend. : )
This music is so fine. No avant garde, no genius compositions, just plain blues and rock, and a great pleasure to listen to. Do you think it is not much? Think twice...
I used to listen to Savoy Brown when I was a junior in High School, 1973. Having a brother 7 yrs. older made Me way above any top 40 shit all My friends were hooked on. They kept it going until all of the members dropped lead guitar/vocals, And formed Foghat taking on one more member. I guess that is why early Foghat was so good, They were Savoy Brown! Still one of My favorites, Timeless blues. Thank You very much for putting this up.
I seen Savoy Brown when they touring for this album during the 70s. Went to the Paramount theater in downtown Portland, Oregon with some friends. Had front row seats in the balcony. Those were great seats. Great show. I'm 70 now, still listening.... RL.
I first heard Savoy in Chicago as a kid on the fledgling WLS-FM when the played Train To Nowhere from "Blue Matter" and the damage was permanent. People hold Clapton and SRV in high esteem as blues players but have overlooked Kim Simmons for decades.
just a great treat thru the years ,saw them many times in the day ,never ounce saw a bad show -kim simmons deserves so much admiration and credit for never giving up thu the years and music changes. thanks so much
such an excellent album.... i still remember listening to this on my brother’s 8 track tape...... every song is superb. thanks for loading this onto youtube.... all my albums are in storage right now.....
I always liked this lineup of SB. Lonesome Dave had that gravely growl of a voice that was perfect for this blues band. Always one of my favorite bands. Seen them in 72 in Salt Lake City with Atomic Rooster , Long John Baldry and Humble Pie. Wow.
Do you remember what Atomic Rooster sounded like, they are another band I think are great. Vincent Crane the founder of Atomic Rooster, was also in the band, The crazy world of Arthur Brown. He started the band, (after quitting Arthur Brown), with Carl Palmer (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fame), their first headlining gig was in London, and the opening band was Deep Purple. I just found this out recently, I always thought Vincent Crane was a bit under rated as a keyboardist and believed that Deep Purple had "borrowed" some of his licks. He always seemed to me to be a musician that other musicians would like. By the way I like all of those bands (Long John Baldry, Savoy Brown, Atomic Rooster and Humble Pie) my favorite would have to be Savoy Brown. ps... if you get a chance listen to the song "Fire" by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, it is a classic for sure, especially if you see the music video with it. Arthur Brown was one of the first to paint his face and was followed by one more famous, (alice cooper).
+eloquentprofaniti atomic rooster with mr cris farlowe on vocals...i think...really...those days i think that uriah heep sounds like sb at the 72/74 years...
+James Brown ...thats dave walker on this album...not lonesome dave prevette...dave walker also sang on hellbound train and street corner talking....3 of my fav savoy brown albums
I Saw Them At The Swing In Berdo In 1972 With Fleetwood Mac Don't Remember If Anyone Else Was Their But We Went To See Savoy Brown They Played Some New Stuff From Hell Bound Train Fucking Great
Got to see them in Fla after this came out ('73?). They opened with So Tired. Still the best concert I ever saw; ZZ Top, Blue Oyster Cult, Savoy Brown & Deep Purple as the headliner.
I was turned on to Savoy Brown when my older neighbor who was 42 at the time me 20 in 1983 grabbed a album out his collection and played Train To Nowhere and Louisiana Blues while we were getting stoned off the pipe he had since 1968 I've been hooked ever since lol started buying all I could find of Savoy Brown at used record store all over Cleveland still have and jam them all the time now I try to find more around Memphis
It's kink of a screamer, in a high key. I was trying to do it our band in the 80's, but it was too much for me. I'd blow my voice out trying to force it out.
thanks tommy ham....we used to cruise out in the country at night in the old chevy pick up truck..smokin weed and drinkin brews..jammin to Savoy Brown....my two favs. was second try and denim demon...back in 73..dig it !!!
Still listening to this on original vinyl since I bought it '72-'73 on an original belt drive Pioneer Pl-15D with a B&O cartridge. I never tire of good blues and rock. I'll take a record or CD over any digital format I have heard so far. Listening to digital is like settling for 20% of the original music.
Man, thank you so much for posting this. Have not heard this since it first came out and I was in college. Had it on 8-track and you know how that goes. Great album. Appreciate you!!!
Savoy Brown's album cover for Hellbound Train, the best of all time....I was fascinated by that album cover when I was a child...for years, I would spend time staring at it.
ha, yeah me too.. I parents played this record for me as a tyke to put me to sleep.. shot in the head is still one of my favorite songs now as I close in on 50.
Saw them 1970-71 summer at the Wollman Skating Ring in Central Park, the place that Donald Trump fixed for city of New York Was just around time this great album was released. They were awesome beyond belief and stood out amongst the other great shows I saw at the Wollman including Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Beach Boys, Frank Zappa and Blue Oyster Cult. If my memory serves me correctly price of shows was about $10.00 a ticket or perhaps less. Memorable and not to be forgotten. I actually have a bootleg for that show I got from my buddy Matt who went with me. Just sick to think we are talking 46 years ago. Wow.
Ya, I hear ya, and this was from a show over 10 years ago, Kims audience is getting older, and at a bar where there were about 40-50 people, there were old guys with caines, and I did catch Kim laughing ay what I was observing at the time. Funny moments at Bar concerts
@@quaifong Well John, yes the audience is definitely Medicare-centric although i have avoided a cane up to now (LOL). My buddy was doing radio promo for Kim about 2 years back and I saw and met him at the Iridium in NYC. Maybe more interesting I saw Kim at a World Trade Center show only about ten days before 9/11. His band did the last show before the catastrophe. When I told him this he seemed quite surprised. He signed my brochure from that very show.
Savoy Brown were/are Britains best blues band: you just can´t top their masterworks " A Step Further! and "Raw Sienna".On Lion´s Share my favorite tracks are "So Tired"(GREAT song!)and "Love Me Please".Thanks for uploading Tommy Ham!!
I don’t understand why this album has been so hard to get your hands on over the past 30 years. It’s one of my all time blues favorites and still my favorite Savoy Brown album. Thanks so much for sharing this on you tube. Incredible sound and brings back some really fine memories. What a great band. Plus they’re playing here in St. Louis this year. Needed to listen to all their albums. Thanks again.
Wow! What a band! Through all the years and all the lineups Kim Simmonds has continuously recorded some of the best blues, boogie, and ass kicking rock thaive ever heard. Unfortunately much like Humble Pie, Nazareh, Slade and others will never even be considered for the Hall of Fame. That is the saddest feeling I know!
Like I said this is one fine album. Thanks Tom for posting it....I have like Savoy Brown the day they came out,I will never get tired of all the great music they have done...
I am going to see the FOGHAT ( Rodger Earl, drummer ) / Savoy Brown show this weekend @ Penn's Peak, Jim Thorpe, Pa., Saturday May 19, 2019.... Lion's Share was my first Savoy, purchased in fall ,1973. I have seen Kim / Savoy Br 1974 Boogie Bros 1975 Wire Fire 1989 Kings of Boogie So...this weekend, 30 years since! The latest album " Witchy Feeling" 2018 is excellent!
I like the blues saddest feeling also shot in the head and second try this whole album is real good I got it back in 72 or 73 and I enjoyed every bit of it I was about seventeen😊
This album started it all for me, have seen over 30 times, from that rock band with the singer from Boston, through about 2013 before I moved to Australia for 6 years ago, that includes the break room at intermission at the El Macambo in Toronto with Kim, DC, and Richie lol, good times for sure
***** When was Lion's Share released? Back in the late 60's and early 70's, the local underground FM radio station played a lot of Savoy Brown. I recently purchased Blue Matter, Looking In, Raw Sienna and Street Corner Talking for my ipod. Kim Simmond's guitar and Chris Youlden's voice made magic. Thanks for posting this album.
Kim Simmons is Savoy Brown Old or new whatever band he had was rocking innit they were so good they had to form two bands see n em every time r they came to town
THANK YOU 3x !! I've not heard this album since I was a teen in the `70s. I never owned it but heard it a lot from others--may have taped copy but broke or got lost. Somehow it slipped through the cracks and I'd forgotten. Hearing this now is liked being reunited with a long lost friend!
wow...i only knew some tracks from this album , from the bootleg live at central park ny in 1972...great times from one of the greatest english band.thanks for share
Saw the boys in Central Park Wollman skating rink circa when this album came out. They were great. Met Kim years later through a friend. He was very personable.
One of the best white blues bands ever to create musiic. Something unique about them that goes even beyond the Stones, no insult intended. So rocking, so masterful, so captivating, they should be in the Rock n roll of fame. Are they>
Tommy, are you a big Savoy Brown fan? I was a HUGE fan of the Lps - A Step Further through Lookin' In - I've seen them but w/ Jackie Lynton - vocals (1972-1974)
I bought 'Train to Nowhere' as a single (yeah 45rpm) more years ago than I would like to admit and feel the driving beat in it still holds good against what people are putting out today, listen and enjoy, thanks for the memories.
