This makes me love the music of the 20s even more !!! I love the "Savoy Orpheans" anyway and this underscores why.

This was my first savoy orpheans record I bought for 10p in 1978 when I was 12.My version however was the 12” version with “tip toes “ on the reverse. At the time I read’orpheans’ as ‘orphans’ and imagined it was a band made up of children from dr.barnardos

What is it that makes a song like "Sunny" so infectious? Why this particular series of notes and not another. A rhetorical question, of course.

What a naughty trick they pulled with the rapid phrase repeat at 5'55". It sounded so like the "stuck needle"; and still made me react, even though it's decades since I played with an old, wind-up, HMV/Victrola cabinet console gramophone. Gem of a disc and a lovely, natural, transfer.

Absolutely right. Thanks for pointing that out. I blindly copied out the song titles from the discography.

The Savoy Bands usually played in a vigorous way, except when they did these selections, when they always were a bit on the sedate side

After "Who" on side one is "Two Little Bluebirds"
