Orchestre Savoy Orpheans de Savoy Hotel, Londers - The Girl Friend, Fox Trot (Rodgers) Disque Gramophone 1926 (French pressing)
NOTE: Here's one more very hot dance side recorded by The Savoy Orpheans - one of the best and the hottest dance orchestras in Great Britain, in the Roaring Twenties. They were resident at the Savoy Hotel, London, between 1923 and 1927 and the owner of the Savoy Hotel, Rupert D'Oyly Carte called the Orpheans "probably the best-known band in Europe." The band was formed by Debroy Somers, an ex-army bandmaster, in 1923. Both the Savoy Orpheans and their colleagues at the Savoy Hotel - the Savoy Havana Band, were under the management of Wilfred de Mornys. The Savoy Havana Band was formed two years earlier, in 1921 by the American saxophonist Bert Ralton. From 1924 it was led by the English violinist Reginald Batten.
In United Kingdom, the names of The Savoy Orpheans as well as the Savoy Havana Band (both orchestras disbanded in 1927, when their manager Wilfred de Mornys' contract with Savoy Hotel ended) - personifies the great city's Roaring Twenties with its cosmopolitan nerve, sophistication, humour and versatility..
