I just made out like a bandit. I walked down to the corner royal farm to get my son a box of donuts. The delivery guy was inside and dumping 10 trays of donuts into a big bag and delivering new stock. I said "Can I take them out to the dumpster for you?" He tied the bag and said their all yours, so I came home with 5 dozen free donuts less than 24 hrs old. The manager behind the counter said he's here every night.

My local bakery puts the day old donuts in bags of 8-10 for 1.50. But the glaze gets liquified in the plastic bags. I’ll just pay 10.99 for a fresh dozen

Brings back memories, I worked on a small sawmill (3 guys) back in 1980. It had a duel offset head rig. they tapped in the sawblade teeth, occasionally while sawing frozen logs you could hear the teeth coming out of the sawblade and whizzing by your head, since i worked the green chain. a lot of hard work ,learned a lot.

You add a touch of down home country to your channel. I liken it to sitting on the front porch Sunday morning talking and relaxing watching Henry drive down the gravel road and wonder where he is going. I'm a life long city boy from the city (San Diego) but spend two wonderful years part time on a farm in Winchester VA when the Army would turn me loose. You and your crew are relaxing to see.

Definitely SAFETY FIRST. I had a Uncle that got impaled by a piece that came off the blade and went into his tight back in the 80's at a Saw Mill in Newton Falls,Ohio. Had the Head Sauer not thought quickly and fashioned a tourniquet out of a extensions cord and a broken off piece of 1x1 sticker. He would have bleed to death before the Squad got there and rushed him to the Hospital and emergency surgery. The piece was only about 4"x 1.5" that exploded off a pices of Hickory. It was the 2nd to last log of the day at 3:45pm on a Friday afternoon. Turns out the Head Sauer was a Navy Corp.men that fought in the Korean War. The man clearly saved his life with his quick thinking of cutting that extension cord and using the way he did. I recommend that EVERYONE today HAVE and KEEP at least one CAT style Tourniquet handy. Especially in this situation where you could keep them safe dry and secure in the cab of the mill. You PRAY to God you never need one. But you THANK GOD you have one when you need one.

Loved the cherry logs. Reminded me of the cherry cabinets I had made for the 1913 farm house I gutted and refit. Yellow pine floors and interior trim, never painted. Stacked the flooring in the basement for 2 years whilst the refit was going on. OMG what a beauty she was when I finished her. From a zero bathroom, 6 bedroom to a 2.5 bath 3 bedroom with nanny quarters.

beautiful stock coming off that big cherry log. I wish I was closer to you guys as I do a lot of smaller woodturning projects and those pieces you chop up for firewood would great for somebody like me who can make use of shorts. I make good use of 2-3 foot lengths, that you guys would consider firewood. The closest sawmill to me is not far away but only does softwood, then you get into a bit of a drive up north into New Hampshire (I am just north of Boston)

After watching Eddie on the receiving end it adds to the overall “how it is done” As a special because of the added editing and time. Change from your view of the log going through the saw to eddies view receiving the same cut. As a once a month or Xmas special I think it would be great. Am following Eddie channel too and both compliment each other. Good work all round.

This video is a perfect example of how you have to think ahead when grade sawing. He has to be conscious of the bark inclusion at the butt and where it falls on each face. It's not as simple as just chunking the log on the Frick and go to cutting. Hès having to play log chess and basically cut the entire log in his head before he actually cuts it. Grade sawing with limbs is one thing but with that bark inclusion it changes how he processes the entire log. Great video Mr. Mark, you make it look so easy.

To bad the kiln isn’t operational, you’d be making cabinets in February with that cherry 😉

We use a magnetic block heater on the hydraulic oil reservoirs. Plug them in a few hours before you’re ready to work. Presto , warm oil!

One thing to remember, if you're not having fun, you're not having fun. If it doesn't say Sunkist on it you don't know what you're getting. If you put the boards with sap wood on them into the kiln the sap wood will crack according to Nathan.
@markgalicic7788
@markgalicic7788 6 месяцев назад
yes true Mark , the sap wood on cherry will cup very easy but I never seen it crack.

When is ZZ gonna start up his channel? I wouldn't mind seeing some of the stuff he makes with the wood he salvages from the mill.

I was thinking you were going kind of fast pushing the logs though the saw. It's all perspective. I like the pace.
@markgalicic7788
@markgalicic7788 6 месяцев назад
it does eat cherry fast.

Have you thought of adding a kick bump near the kick back blade to help the newly cut board to flip on its side so the conveyor belt can do its job and take the board to the crew? Thanks for the fun videos.

Why do you not turn the crack in the cherry vertical on your intial cut so only one to two boards have the damage? Cutting it the way you did made several boards have to be short to remove the crack.
@markgalicic7788
@markgalicic7788 6 месяцев назад
that's fine if the saw would clear the cut , you have to look at the big picture .

I didn’t think of that. The log was more square, not round, at the biggest part.
