The battle is on!! It’s slab vs slab, brother vs brother. We’ve got a large Black Walnut log going up against a huge Cherry log. We are going to slab out these logs, pick the nicest slab and have you pick the winner with absolutely nothing on the line except bragging rights.
We will be using our large bandsaw sawmill to slab out these large logs.
Our large bandsaw sawmill can handle logs up to 65” in diameter. The Black Walnut will be handled by Austin and the Cherry will be handled by Andre.
American Black Walnut is the most sought-after domestic wood here in the states. Black Walnut has a deep brown color with a white sapwood. This Walnut log is going to produce amazing slabs!
Cherry wood is not as sought-after but it should be! Cherry has a beautiful orange color with a lighter sapwood and also produces dark colored mineral stripes. The secret about Cherry is like a fine wine that it gets better with age. As it ages the color will darken and have a rich deeper red. While it may be the underdog, it shouldn’t be counted out.
