Hey brother. I was at that show. Sorry this is a year later but I gotta ask. Do you remember someone throwing fireworks from the mezzanine at that show?
No I can't claim that. I just remember Byford stopping the show and telling "the wankers to cut their shit or the band would leave the stage." I think I'm remembering their Denim and Leather tour in March of 82. Even if you didn't smoke you got high in the "Arena"
Killer song , album , and band . Horribly underrated . Saw them open for UFO at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis in March of '82 . Both bands were recorded live for the King Biscuit Flower Hour . A most memorable evening !
@riff88m Steve Dawson was certainly a showman in his day. I saw the Power and the Glory tour. Excellent! Made me a lifetime fan of Saxon. Glad you have a great eye for the obvious!
Love that Steve Dawson's bass is loud and clear here.B-) I saw Saxon in concert in Germany twice in the 80's. Their Crusader concert in Mainz was my first rock concert - I was 14.B-)
@@dianabru9281 the only concerts tickets I won was to see Sammy Hagar in Joplin Missouri USA ca. 1996. It was cool. I saw Blue Oyster Cult at the same venue, they were even cooler.
saxon is awesome, i saw saxon opening for iron maiden in los angeles during the piece of mind tour and saxon was just as good as iron maiden easily but having said that iron maiden is the more well known band but saxon is a heavyweight also
That's The Saxonias are all over the years..Power and Glory into the Music World and Really Road Warriors !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!! Rise Your Glasses On !!!
They rip. I knew a guy who said his favorite band was Saxon. He was insane and sold me drugs . Think he stole my bike one day and was years and years older. We don’t speak anymore lol. Good times ? Haha Definitely one of the best bands haha
I have seen Saxon twice and the first time (Oct. 2000) I got to meet Biff and spent about a half hour talking to him. Super cool and awesome metal singer!! He and Paul autographed my Crusader LP.
classic NWOBHM sound I'm a soldier of fortune I'm trained and I'm ready to kill Put me to battle I'll follow the sound of the gun Give me an order, command me I'll fire at will I've got no emotions I'm living with thunder and steel I don't hear your lies all I hear are your battle cries I'm a soldier of fortune I'm trained and I'm ready to die To the power and the glory Raise your glasses high To the power and the glory Be with me tonight A cold death awaits me tonight if I stumble or fall My friends lay around me their bodies all tattered and torn But mine is not to reason why, mine is just to do or die To the power and the glory Raise your glasses high To the power and the glory Be with me tonight Can you feel the power Can you feel the glory Can you feel the power Can you feel the glory Can you feel the power Is it with you tonight I'm fighting for freedom, I'm safe, I've got God on my side What price in life can you justify your battle hymn The General says we'll will win the war, just sacrificed a thousand more To the power and the glory Raise your glasses high To the power and the glory Be with me tonight Tonight, tonight, tonight To the power and the glory Raise your glasses high To the power and the glory Be with me tonight Tonight, yaya
Saw them on this tour with Accept as the opener. Bronco Bowl, Dallas, TX. Front row right against the barricade, and got about four or five hand slaps from Biff! It was great!!
These early shows are so awesome. Biff is the epic front man. I wish I would have been into these guys more than other hair metal at the time. Class of 85. Atleast they will always be young and powerful on the web.
I saw them on the tour after this one, World Crusade, in Mainz Germany. It was my first metal concert. I'll never forget that. After that I was big into the big British and German metal bands. Class of '88 (high school).
my top 5 bands as a school kid, 1 saxon, 2 rainbow, 3dr feelgood, 4 iron maiden, 5ac/dc ,,,,,,, my top 5 bands now as a 43yr old, 1 aerosmith, 2 guns n roses, 3 red hot chilli peppers, 4 leonard skinard, 5 saxon ,,,,
I can tell you straight out that Saxon is not better than Maiden, but when bands reach a level of awesomeness you cannot really compare them. The only thing you can compare are bands that have entered into that place in the stratosphere, to those who have not. Both bands IMO, have entered that hall of fame.
Saw Saxon open 4 Maiden this tour & revisited "Piece" tour concert on YT thinking it was them @ their best, but turns out I was mistaken! Beast tour b4 was them @ their BEST, cause OLD 4-5 MIN SONGS + BEAST SONGS. 4 "Piece" u can see where Harris thinks he's some grand composer on a 4 string which ANYBODY who can play can do & Dikinson gets 2 sing 4 20 secs then has 2 run around like an idiot 4 3-4 minutes b4 can sing again! If wanted 2 go that route should've got a singer who plays! Once Maiden songs went past 5 mins, I'M DONE!!! Now go 2 c them & 2 1/2 hr show is like 5 songs & Run 2 the Hills-F*CKIN' SUCK!!! SAXON AS GREAT AS EVER!!!🎆🎸
Seen them on this tour in Memphis Tenn. with Fast Way and Maiden. All were good but the highlight of the show was when the bass player for Maiden ran to the front of the stage dropped on his knees and slid of into the crowd. I think they were in the middle of playing Die With Your Boots On, and a tug of war for his bass started up with the crowd and the bass player. You could hear the strings being hit but they never missed a beat and jammed right on like nothing was happening. That was some funny shit.........ROCK ON MOTHERFUCKERS ROCK ON!!!!
Saxon WAS playing infront of small clubs in the mid 90´s, not so anymore and I do think they out-tour maiden when it comes to dates per year- only difference is Dickinson is prancing around in a jetliner while Biff is bunking in the back of a bus.One has to remember these boys are from Barnsley and used to work down the pit when bruce was still in kindergarten
I saw Fastway, Saxon & Iron Maiden in Louisville on the last leg of that tour together. The other bands and some of the stage guys snuck up behind Saxon as the finished their last song and hit them in the face with Pies. Saxon did the same to Maiden after their last song before the encore. I had pie stains on my concert shirt.
@niokkota Deep Purple is pretty popular here in the States. It is interesting though because, looking at their discography on wikipedia, they charted in the US on their first three albums, but not in Europe. Then they became more popular in Europe, but they also remained fairly popular in the US. Ritchie Blackmore is also frequently cited as one of the most influential guitarists. But they didn't even come close to being as popular as Zeppelin. Great band.
@ZeMPzo You are quite right about Ritchie Blackmore ! Here in Bulgaria his style of playing is considered the ''ABC'' for every serious guitar player. He made a revolution in the improvisation as being the first guitarist in rock who used 4 fingers of the left hand in the improvisation ( the classical type ).Also his vibrato and dirty glissando can not be mistaken with noone else ! Who is more popular in the USA,Jimmy Page or Rithchie Blackmore ?
In regards to your question about Page or Blackmore - popularity in the U.S.A., I would dare to say that Page is more well known. Perhaps that is partly due to Blackmore's reluctance with interviews, press, etc. Whereas, Page has made appearances with his other Zeppelin mates on U.S. late night shows and was featured in the the electric guitar documentary "It Might Get Loud". I prefer Blackmore; I think he has a more unique style. I have read that people in the 1970's would refer to Purple as the "poor man's Zeppelin"; I don't see that, though. Different styles - Zeppelin more experimental in Folk-influenced Rock and in their later period, World Music. In contrast, Deep Purple stuck with the faster-speed Blues-influenced, occasionally Classically influenced, hard rock. Also, the keyboards were more of a driving force in Purple than Zeppelin - the benefit of having a full time keyboard player. Keep rockin' in Bulgaria!
Have you seen those "most ripped off heavy metal riff" vids? This riff has been used so often! It is an epic riff though. And Biff's outfit is hilarious!
Nah, Saxon has had as many lineup changes as Maiden, and as for "Stamina" I don't see Saxon doing the yearly world tours Maiden has been doing. Saxons biggest touring nowadays is the festival circuit and apparently that small club in Basingstoke. Maiden did the small clubs every night for 6 years until they expanded and did their first world tour with Paul in 1981. Both bands put in their time and deserve their rewards. though Maiden stayed true and Saxon did have that lengthy commercial period.
@ZeMPzo Hi again ! Sorry for my late answer,I was away.Yes,I am from Bulgaria.Sorry but I didn`t go to Metallica and Slayer`s concert in Sofia. It would have been very interesting to me see my teenage idols James Hetfield,Kirk Hamett,Lars Ulrich from Metallica, Tom Araya,Kerry King,Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo from Slayer alive ! During Communism as small kids we listened to them. They were kind of protest against totalitarian communism ! But Purple were more popular than Zeppelin here.
You are right about Saxon´s EMI years where they were pushed in the wrong direction but i just feel maiden changing singers 3 times is often forgotten, though if someone is to pull it off it is maiden and they did thanx to harris stubborness and his reluctancy to change his songwriting Saxon´s biggest problem was always their management and record label they never got the backup that maiden n leppard got from their big labels. Carrere was a fart in space in comparison.
@niokkota For some reason Saxon just didn't get big here like they did in Europe. I think it is unfortunate. I don't really like Iron Maiden that much. I don't bash maiden, I just don't see how people think they are the greatest and how they were the British Band that era that got huge. I think it is a shame that Saxon, Diamond Head, and the Tygers of Pan Tang don't get more credit here in the U.S., to me they are the greatest of the era.
@niokkota You are from Bulgaria? Did you get a chance to go to the big four (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer & Anthrax) concert in Sofia? I would have loved to see that! Here in the states Page is more popular overall, but among guitarists and true rock enthusiasts Ritchie Blackmore is just as popular and influential as Jimmy Page. What is the Bulgarian rock scene like? What are some good bands from Bulgaria that I should check out?
Well, I think if they had some of the success of the other bands they would not have had to do those mainstream albums. You got to survive, and they never dressed like chicks so its not that bad. Reminds me of Diamondhead or Raven, great early albums but bad management led them to have to go commercial to survive. Diamondhead didn't survive and Raven almost died after their big label debacles. Saxon is looking pretty compared to what has happened to other bands.
@ZeMPzo Probably the same is with Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin in USA,isn`t it ? I heard that Deep Purple are not that popular in the USA like Led Zeppelin. In Europe Deep Purple were a legend at the time.
I think Saxon have more pedigree than maiden, who, afterall have changed singer 3 times to reach the commercial success they always sought-and got, Saxon on the other hand have stuck with it through thick and thin and I don´t think maiden would have the stamina or will to survive what Saxon did... Bruce Dickinson infront of 50 people in basingstoke-I think not... they would have called it quits. Saxon-true metal
Nothing like the originals doing their music...........take a look at my band Dark Energy Band, we give you our reproduction...........thank you for this video my friend!!!!!!!!!
ALL THE NEGATIVE SHIT SPEECH! DONT MEAN NOTHING! BOTH BANDS ARE BAD ASS, WHEN YOU GROW UP, YOU MAY COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT YOUR NOT ROCKIN AT ALL NO ONE IS PAYIN TO HEAR WHAT YOUR SAYIN, SO IF YOU CAN DO WHAT THIS BAND HAS DONE,RUN YOUR SHIT UP THE FLAG POLE, AND SEE IF WE SALUTE IT.
