The matterbeam is, IMHO, the single most transformative piece of tech in the game

If I have a big enough base, I'll build at least one. That way, visiting players who may not have access to a Freighter can still get to (some) of their storage.

Since I’m pretty new to the game and always got the matter beam early, I always wondered about the purpose of base storage containers. Even containers at other players’ bases merely give access to my own freighter storage.

I wish my inventory would organize itself

I don’t bother building planetary bases anymore since I built a megacity in my frieghter. Not only is it a mobile base, but it can also jump 15K+ ly. I’m still looking for an earth-like paradise planet though.

I actually just like to build them. I only wish that I could resize them or have some base parts that snapped to the outside of them for better fit in my builds.

I knew everything in this video except for the fact that you don't lose standing by shooting freighters that don't have landing available

oh wow that is so much more useful . I myself never made base container but when I want to take something from my freighter I just fly to it with my ship ( I have no matter beam at the moment )

I'm planning on have a few storage containers be on farming bases so I don't have to worry about calling in my freighter. I like to use my freighter as a portal point on my path around the galaxy.

The whole point of the game though is that “You are not alone”! One aspect of this means that if you do put storage containers in your base other players can use them to access THEIR items, especially if they don’t yet have a freighter or the matter transponder thingy if and when they happen to visit your base. If you power them via a couple of proximity switches they won’t drain your power when you’re not using them either. (Same with the transporter or anything else that doesn’t need constant power.) Useful if you don’t have access to an electromagnetic power source and don’t want to drain your base batteries. Remember. Its not all about you. You are not alone.

I like to search for derelicts in space and crashed frigates etc for my upgrade modules. More reasons to explore :) I keep telling myself I'll do a pirate playthrough one day but I get bored of attacking things very quickly and go back to peaceful exploration and spooky freighter spelunking

Each ship can be a seperate cotainer butThere are 2 secret containers in nms well not secret just rarely noticed one is food process which can store consumable resource material the othere is base salvage module which returns a percentage from most recent deleted base.

known stuff, just its less convenient in that sense that you can not send thru quite transfer items to containers on freighter or pull resource with quick transfer from it or while in refiner menu IF you are NOT on freighter currently

I typically put storage containers in my bases anyways just incase a random player stumbles upon it and has no freighter.

I haven’t played this game in like literally a year, but easily put 500+ hours in and had a glitched freighter and all the stuffs cause of your channel among others. I’ve missed some updates and all; but somehow I never put together the fact I never needed storage containers on my farms if I could warp my freighter in. Amazing 😅

Or you can max out your standing with multiple guilds (merchant, explorer, etc), search for two systems where they give you modules for free, and warp between them. That’s what worked for me. You can do the same for starship expansion and exosuit expansion

Well, I got over 156,000,000 credits from selling 10 stasis devices🤑 I also got the outlaw hood a while ago "early" game. Thanks for that freighter tip, big help to not lose standing!

What annoys me about storage containers in NMS, is that they're all connected, ie. 1 storage in the base is the same as 1 storage on your freighter, but you can't auto feed resources directly into them from your auto farm.

Yeah I’ve practically used all my storage already.. I have my own scientific table of elements I’ve found throughout my travels, page 2 after it is the bulk or extra stacks of it I got and I have so many more pages full of stuff, wish I could build more than 10 freighter storage containers but hopefully that will be addressed in time

Update on salvaged frigate modules, you can get them from some merchant envoys now. Just jump through all the systems you have, and take note of which ones offer modules. Their stock resets every time you reload the station, so warping between two (or saving, quitting, and reloading) is a good way to stock up fast without cheating

The freighter being in called from a planet is my favorite thing ever, especially with the long flat ones, I have the vehicle thing in my freighter so I can have vehicles as long as the freighter is in the system

I have mining camps for every minable resource. So I teleport a lot to gather materials. I still use Storage Containers because I'm frequently in different system's, sometimes a different galaxy, to my freighter.

I farm frigate modules with anomaly missions and space station missions. Bounce between the two. Every space station has different missions, and sometimes there will be more than one mission with a frigate module as a reward, the higher your faction standings the more you will have access to.

Doesn't work in the new dissonant planets which is were the most unique planets are at so you'll want one at least that's comfortable with your bases and main storage

Not seen this anywhere else,but the outside edges of your freighter( Out where you can't build) you can build the storages.

My Home is my Freighter Base. Always on the go. Now in Galaxy 245. It took me only 2000+h

You used to be able to access storage containers that's at a base as long as your in the system where they are or from whatever base you had in whatever system. You also could access your base storage AND your freighter storage containers when you were at your bas and your freighter was over head so you had double the 10 standard storage containers so you had 20 but I guess it can be confusing when you couldn't name them but that one set was right after your freighter and the base storage was after your ship or something like that. It sucks they patched the storage augmentation for your starship because I used the difficulty setting to make purchases free and got to add 120 storage to one of my starships and 100 tech slots lol it was an S class solar sail but it wasn't the real nice one I wanted but it's what I had and it was newest ship at the time so I went with it, not long after I found a nice mosquito Exotic that I had wished I'd done it on instead but they had patched it by then so I started just using the solar for a while till the Utopia speeder came along and I spent a lot of money to max it out and now I use it cause it's very nice. I wish they would make a bunch of new ships so we have a greater variety, also the guns on the speeder is nice but all guns on ships need remodelled make them nicer and make it so we can cycle through weapons with the D-pad or something so we can quickly switch to a weapon we want to use instead of trying to press 1 button and going past the one you need and having to cycle back cause your in a hurry lol. They could do combo buttons if they had to, press and hold up, down,left, right on D-pad or L1/R1, L bumper/R bumper and then the ∆ or Y button to switch to the corresponding weapon you had and it worked like a sort of quick menu. I always just use 2 weapons cause I can't stand having to cycle through all weapons with one button especially in the heat of battle. All that and of course ship customization, I would like to change the color of my ship like I do with just about everything else in the game. I wanted us to be able to build our ship since you build a lot in the game now, it would of been cool to have to build a simple little rocket to start the game and not be able to warp till you collect certain parts from planets in your starting system but once you did you could warp to nearby yellow stars on your first quest to build a better ship to leave the starting systems, maybe make a ship from different current ship parts and have a Frankenstein ship lol that would be fun too but I'd like to be able to build more important things in game like Space Engineers since No man's sky is all about relaxing and just building things. Just imagine all the time people would put into the game just building ships! I know I would.

Idk why I never thought to resort to piracy to get frigate modules. Been wanting to kit out my freighter but only way I knew how was crashed freighters and industrial frigate expeditions

The matter beam and frigate storage containers are perfect for black market goods as well. As soon as you have them just transfer it over to the frigate, and I have a designated storage container for contraband. Your frigate never gets scanned so no trouble from authorities.

This is a great tip I wish I didn’t find out 24 hours into my playthrough. I still don’t know if the matter beam makes it so in the system you can access it or if it’s even farther

So today you lose standing either way, whether you're in an outlaw system or attacking the "non-landable" freighters. Also the drop rate highly depends on the system it seems, so if you get nothing with your first freighter destroyed, go to another system! If you're lucky you'll max out your freighter by losing only 15 reputation in total, which can be easily recovered. Oh and just destroy the shield manually (by shooting at it), then shoot at the hull. Rince and repeat with every cargo you find. I've had no luck in outlaw systems for finding a non-zero drop rate, but I don't know if that's on purpose or not.

My friend got a few of us back into the game lately and I was just telling him how I wished there was a way to access your inventory without having to open the storage every time

As my current home is Eissentam, I leave my freighter there so I can warp to my last eissentam system easily. My main Euclid bases have storage containers 100%

Any advice on getting a freighter? I started about a week ago and I'm wondering if i can find any that are broken down, similar to the broken down ships you can sometimes find on planets.

Dear all you can use the small refiner to duplicate pretty much anything prebuild 5, have the items you want to dupe on you, place first refiner and don't move from this point as it makes things 10x easier, place what you want to dupe in the refiner, back out with the stuff still in the refiner, then place more refiners in the same spot as the one with the stuff you want to dupe in make sure the refiners you place on top of the first are a tiny amount infront so the refiners you place last are the first to be re-stored in your inventory. TOP TIP: There are items that refine into nanites, I'll let you guys work out the rest. Clue: KAAAA-CHINGGG

Exosuit, ship and freighter inventories are so large now, I don't even use those storage container anymore.

As soon as the update for the beam transmatter came out i depeted that base and never used those pods again.

Those freighters are about to get recked once I jump on. And they usually just appear near by.

I found a vykeen system with a explorer's guild that's giving out free frigate modules for level 5.. I won't leave till I get all the tech for my freighter..

Just pew pew it all and use the passports to reset your standing, it makes tonsssss of money. Probably my favorite way to make money on my survival save due to inventory limitations.

I like using my freighter as a way to keep track of the most useful recent place I've visited. So this wouldn't work for me, it would drive me nuts trying to find the specific galaxy I liked when I was hopping across a bunch back to back.
