Same here brother! I picked up a retired 1999 P71 about 2 years ago and use it as a daily driver to get to work and go shopping, car has been fantastic and is SUPER fun to drive. Not super fast, but I don't care, all fast cars do is get you speeding tickets. I was actually surprised at how well she handles for her size, pretty easy to drive, too! I hear that the 2003+ models handle even better! I'd love to drive one some day.

03 or 06 I cant remember off hand but ford added the larger mercury marauder throttle body and intake air cleaner tube for better flow and yep I find it hilarious when people say they have cop chips. No such thing they only have tuned trans for harder shifts and tuned computers for higher rpms and longer shift times great cars though and 7.8 secs is pretty fast for a crown vic most are almost 9 secs 10 if they have all the equipment and a fat cop with 2 dozen Krispy Kremes in his gut lol

When Ford Motor Company quit making the Ford Crown Victoria, the Mercury Grand Marquis and the Lincoln Town car, all these cars were based on the Ford Panther Platform, it was the end of era in automobiles. These were the last cars that were full size, body on a frame construction, V8 engine in front and rear wheel drive with a solid axle in back. Cars like this will not be made anymore.
@ESPLTD322
@ESPLTD322 2 года назад
I love my Vic but i wish the crown Vic was as fast as y’all said lol it’s 0-60 in about 8 seconds and is speed limited to 132 (I think) because it basically has an F150 axle. It’s literally a late 90’s F-150 frame, engine, transmission, axle, etc., but with a sedan body instead lol it’s still 4150 lbs. I think Ford made a giant mistake replacing the solid V8s with twin turbo v6s. It doesn’t get much better gas mileage but it does only get 1/10th of the lifespan.
@D.D.REAPER
@D.D.REAPER 2 года назад
Who ever told you they are fast thats not why we love crown Victoria . they have never been meant for speed they were built for durability power to push a car or truck over and be confortable for universal size of its driver and wide visibility from the driver's seat . they were never meant to be a race car. You can add things to make it faster but it was never their purpose v8 power is not always about speed. They arent fast off the line they are fast for pursuit
@ESPLTD322
@ESPLTD322 2 года назад
I’ve always known they were slow, my buddy had a 94 grand marquis 12 years ago and we rode in that thing forever and I loved it. And then the police in my town let me ride home in them a few times because it was late and I was 13, and they’d slam on the gas for me. And then when I was 18, my step cousin took me for rides in his all the time. And then when I was 19 and old enough to be certified myself, I drove plenty of them for years. And then September 2020 I bought me a 2010 CVPI. I didn’t get it for speed. I actually like it being a little bit slower cause I can give it a lot of gas all the time without flying in the back of people. I’ve always known that. I’m really just being am smart ass to the news reporters saying it would do 0-60 3 or 4 seconds than it really does.

The late 90s F150 used an IFS that was actually a modified version of the independent rear suspension of the Lincoln MkVIII with a leaf spring rear axle. The Crown Vic chassis has direct lineage to the ‘65 Galaxy and all the full size Fords, Lincoln and Mercurys including Torino’s of the 70s. That means it had a coil sprung control arm rear, and double A arm front suspension (mostly aluminum After ‘03). The 8.8 differential was used primarily in the Ranger, Mustangs and CV’s. The CV 4.6 PI was essentially a Mustang engine used 99-04. The F150 never had the PI heads on the 4.6, 5.4 yes. The F150 mostly used the 9.75” diff although some base model F150s used the 8.8”. While the F150 and CV are both BOF, you’ll find few actual common components, other than the 4R75 tranny. If anything the CV has more in common with a 99-04 Mustang in terms of engine, transmission and rear diff than a F150. And that is not a negative, all good.

Not a huge fan of the Crown Vic, but I can definitely say that they are better than the Ford Explorers. By the way, another car I have in mind that sort of competes well against the Crown Vic is the 2000-2005 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. It's got a 3.8 liter V6 engine with 200 HP. That's actually a car I'd really want to have as my first car.

Gone but never forgotten the one and only REAL ford police interceptor the old reliable crown vic. The new ford interceptors are a joke compared to the crown vic when the vic was discontinued ford should have retired the police interceptor name with it the new interceptors dont deserve that badge they are tarnishing the interceptor legacy the crown vic forged decades ago. And to this day the 98 to 2011 bodystlyle is one of the best aging sexy cars out there I have a soft spot for them considering I was born in 1998 . They are reliable as a hammer can take serious abuse not fast at all this guy is delusional if he thinks a stock crown vic will get from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds more like 8 to 10 depending on the gear ratio the higher the gear ratio the better the 4.6 sounds winding up in 1st gear screaming. The 2v modular 4.6 with a 4sp automatic has the best sound of any car out there in my opinion and that angry screaming 4.6 fits the aggressive look of the p71. Something should be said about the reliability of these old tanks can easily get up to 400 500 even 600k on them and some still in service despite being at least a decade old with way less problems then any cop car you can purchase today the only cop car that could ever come close to the p71 is the 94 5 and 6 chevy caprice 9c1 with the lt1. But wasn't anywhere near as sexy

The Tahoe PPV is very reliable too once you delete the AFM system on 2007 and newer models. Even the newer Chevy Caprices imported from Australia are reliable and they are very fast and faster than a Dodge Charger with a 5.7 HEMI. Those GM LS and LT based engines are very reliable engines with endless aftermarket support. The Jeep Cherokee Police Package was also very reliable as well. The ones that are unreliable is the Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer, early model Dodge Chargers, and 3900 V6 Chevrolet Impalas.

Man, at first I didn’t understand it. Crown Victoria’s with the 4.6 V8 Police Interceptor Tuned engine package was built to stand a head on with a animal at 110-120 MPH. These things are Civilian tanks, I guarantee you that this thing is stronger than a Newer Chevy caprice police package. Then of course, they announced that Most depts. around the US. We’re switching to SUV’s due to having good pursuit vehicles and better handling. Over all, they are very tough. I’m glad they still have the chargers around. Man, those beasts nicknamed “ Hemmer “ with the Hemi engines will be around forever and the top 1 police interceptor cruiser. I’ve see with my own 2 eyes a police charger at night hit a deer at 113 MPH and did absolutely nothing to the car. Other than make it blood and almost knock the hood off the car.

In my town in Virginia the Sheriff’s department converted to all Ecoboost Tauruses and Explorers then proceeded to buy a ton of civilian owned retired interceptors once the ecoboosts started having issues. In the winter of 2020 a snowstorm caused 3 officers to crash and put their explorers completely out of commission, they were issued faded, rusty, unmarked crown vics that our local department keeps in service on standby as backups for when the newer cruisers are wrecked or in the shop. Overall for the most part you’re more likely to get pulled over by a Taurus nowadays because all the remaining active duty vics are unmarked. The last marked Vic was owned by an elderly officer with about 35 years on the force, he held onto it as long as he could and was recently issued a Taurus interceptor as of sometime in august 2021, ending our areas marked Crown Vic service. Kids today will never truly understand the amount of fear those cars struck into you when they were behind you or pulling onto your block

I used to have a joke about Ford Crown Victoria's. The joke went like this. If you saw a Ford Crown Victoria on the road one of three types of persons were driving a type of the Ford Crown Victoria. One the car was a Ford Crown Victoria police car and a police officer was driving it. Or the car was a Ford Crown Victoria taxicab and a Taxicab driver was driving it. Or the Ford Crown Victoria was a civilian model and a senior citizen was driving it. The Ford Crown Victoria was the favorite of Police Departments, Taxicab companies and Senior Citizens.

O-60 times of 5.6 seconds on Police Interceptor models, not any of the others. Top speed of 147MPH on Police Interceptor models only. And those times and speeds were for only 1 or 2 model years, and only certain areas of the country got them. BUT, I still miss my civilian Crown Victoria.

Here in Canada cities like Toronto and London stockpiled hundreds of new cruisers when ford announced the end, stretching their road presence. Departments must like them, since 6-10 years is a helluva long time to use them in both our countries. With other models turnover was and is every 3-5. Not as fast as say a Hemi Durango or Ecoboost Taurus-platform sedan, they were a lot easier and cheaper to maintain; less tech to break. All of them, since 1992 or so were built here in Ontario, along with stable mates Mercury Grand Marquis and the Lincoln Town Car. Some police depts overseas, in Russia and France, had a few, a little know fact. They are iconic, and with ever fewer on the used market prices have soared (2022) so happily fewer will be destroyed in derbies, movies or thrashed by tuner-boys. Nice to see so many media outlets covering it’s swan song, not done,that I know of, when other law enforcement cars finished their time. Of course RU-vid wasn’t around then either. Btw the crown Vic in its last iteration had 250 HP, max speed electronically limited to 129 mph ( depending on final drive gear ratio), and 0-60 in about 8.5 seconds (Michigan state police tests, for decades the official or unofficial testing centre for all NA cop cars). Still, it outperforms most cop cars made during the early “smog years”, pre nineties. Better stop now:)

It was heavier, closer to 4,300 lbs. less powerful at 250 hp max, and slower at around 10 seconds on the 60 mph sprint. Whole legions of want to be cop fanboys cut off the mufflers on their panthers, equate loud sounds with huge power - then they go to the drag strip and turn in a low 16 second e.t. thinking that is impressive. Or they pour tons of effort to turn their car into a still unimpressive 15 second 1/4 mile. Fast they are not, cheap and reliable were the best points of the Panther body Ford’s.

@@Thomas63r2 last I checked my 2006 P 71 weighs 3800 pounds unless my stopwatch isn’t working properly it’s eight seconds 0 to 60 without any modifications and at 290,000mi clocked on the odometer. I used to own a 2007 LX that was pretty close to 4300 pounds and 0 to 60 was 11.7sec. You’re right, you’d piss your money away trying to get that car slightly faster and still look like a jackass. But all bets are off if you swap the 4.6L V8 for the 5.4L Supercharged, then get rid of the 4R75E for a T-54. But that’s if you’re really desperate. I’d just get a used mustang GT and call it a day, because I rather have a stock panther that last forever (metaphorically speaking) and doesn’t burn a hole in my wallet on maintenance than blow 20k and have a money pit.

@Thomas63r2 2 года назад
@@GALLUS_PRIME Sorry, not buying the story you are selling. There is not 500 lbs. of extra stuff on an LX vs. the P71. Was that weight measured on truck stop scales? When weighing drag cars in the past I found that the truck stop scales are often not very accurate below 10,000 lbs. Maybe you could take a video of your special lightweight 260 hp P71 at the dragstrip. You are correct, it is much better to start with a much lighter car like a Mustang.

@@Thomas63r2 my mistake on the power numbers. Most panther models were 220, however this doesn’t include the models with the 3.27 axle (720A) sporting 250hp, which mine is. First, I’d like to say I’m more of a fan of track than drag racing and no I don’t have money falling outta my ass to put my main daily drive at unnecessary risk. More likely a different story if I bought another one to blow up. The reason I mentioned the Mustang, wasn’t just because of weight and power difference.. also because I would prefer to treat my panther like how grandpa drives his town car. Laugh all you want. Secondly I went to the local recycle center and weighed both cars. And it’s not a truck scale, it’s meant for your car and/or trailer to sit on. you know, those trailers like those lowboys that you can pick up for around a grand at Lowe’s or some shit. Thirdly, are you sure you know how cars work or did you over look the fact I said 290k on the odometer? There’s no way my Vic can still keep its factory performance. And no there’s no one with a dyno closer than three hours to go check the current power n torque, Because I live in deep in the Appalachian mountains and I’m not gonna take that kind of drive for just one thing.
@Thomas63r2
@Thomas63r2 2 года назад
@@GALLUS_PRIME Ok, the recycle center's scale might not be the one to use: they really only care to know the difference in laden and unladen weights - and lots of very heavy trucks have likely sat on those scales. Most of the newer 250 hp P71's have the same equipment (weight wise) as an equivalent LX. Many P71's are also equipped with a rear underbody crash bar. The rubber floor mat of a P71 offers no weight savings over carpeting. Besides the more basic interior materials, the P71 deletes the exhaust silencers and the air intake silencer - there is not 500 lbs. of weight difference between a same year P71 and LX! If your car does 0-60 in 8 seconds then it has already done most of the hard work of running the 1/8th mile dragstrip. I'm confused about the 290k miles (nothing awful for a 4.6 2V engine) - is your car too tired to run the 1/8th mile dragstrip, or is it a stock stud ripping off 8 second 0-60 mph times? Running the 1/8th mile is way cheaper than running a chassis dyno - and more fun too. As a bonus many dragstrips have a weigh scale that is accurate.
