I'll be another proud crown vic owner commenting. Amazing car, built like a tank. Every bit as reliable as these newer more modern cars out here, with no unnecessary car payment and super easy to work on for the most part. Simple technology, and built the way a car should be in my opinion. Takes me everywhere I need to go even hundreds of miles with no complaints. Don't care what anybody says, one of the best cars ever made in my opinion. The only thing that would make these cars better is if they came in stick shift.

When some of the maintenance people do the repairs on these cards they don't change the transmission filter they just drain the transmission fluid and add new fluid check to see if the filter has been changed there's a label inside the pan I just chang the filter in the fluid anyway also make sure when they move all the police equipment that they don't leave bare wires just hanging there because it could cause a fire good luck changing spark plugs make sure you talk down to 15 psrg

Only thing that will bite you in the ass is the transmission and the intake manifold if you don’t catch that intake manifold leak your car will get severe misfires when that coolant leaks into the spark plug holes

Just bought a 2011 yesterday with 100k and 3100 idle hours yesterday!! Looks, runs, sounds, drives like new!! LOVE IT! Got the full CARFAX on it, it was very well maintained - was a Connecticut State Police Hiway Cruiser!! Came with new tires, new battery, full braked all around, and new upper and lower control arms - basically all work that I'll never have to do now, except for occassional brake jobs, but most major repairs were done prior to purchase! I drive a 2011 with 4700 idle hours & 150k miles. This is by far my favorite car I have owned so far. It is reliable as hell, I LOVE the sound of its v8, its very roomy & comfortable (even for me being 6'5.) It still makes me sad Ford quit making these things. I know the design was dated, but all panther platforms were amazing. Rear wheel drive, body on frame, bulletproof engine I mean Ford really made a big mistake in my opinion.

All technology will eventually become obsolete. My greater gripe is that the Panther platform is one of MANY auto designs that were legendary and we have no access to it. With current manufacturing technology, we can create custom cars built on the design. As in making these obsolete cars brand new. The only problem is that the auto manufactures refuse to sell the design to the public. And there is a regulatory concern with making street legal cars with obsolete tech.

I'm a former cop. My first privately owned CVPI was a brand new 1986. 5.0 V8 was nice. Been driving them for an uninterrupted 35 years. Just bought an unmarked 2008 with 77K miles and 1350 idle hrs. Yup - 13 years old with 1350 idle hrs. 2 hours a week for 13 years. immaculate and a Flex Fuel to boot. Runs on 106 octane E85 alcohol (or 91 - 93 pump gas). I've owned 5 Cadillacs in that time, plus a Mercedes, a Porsche and a BMW 740IL. The P71 (I always kept one as a backup daily driver/farm truck/pickup/family taxi/tow truck/express train) is - by far - a better, more reliable, longer lasting, easier and cheaper to maintain and more versatile vehicle than ANY of them. An overall better car. BETTER than any Mercedes, BMW or Cadillac. Not prettier, or faster, nor as luxurious - but the BMW dealer wanted $3,000 to put the sunroof back on the track, the Cadillacs could not keep an engine or stay out of the shop, and my first "tune-up" for my Mercedes at the dealer was $1,250 - and that was in 1971. If you gave me one for free on Monday, I'd sell it on Tuesday, and with the money I'd buy an old P71 for everyone in my family and all my friends. Think of it this way - if you bought a10 yr old CVPI for $2 or 3,000 instead of spending 125,000 for a Mercedes Kommand Kar, you could put $10,000 or $20,000 in the P71 - blow ANY M-B or BMW into the freakin' weeds, install unborn llama skin upholstery with inch-deep carpet and a 500 watt stereo, every electronic upgrade known to man and put the $100,000 you saved in the bank (summer home, nice boat or world cruise++)

Cheaper insurance (less costly to repair/replace, no one steals them) Safety: It's heavy. More mass = more win in a collision. Your higher inertia will absorb more impact energy. Roll a bowling ball and a baseball at each other, that bowling ball DGAF and keeps going. Maintenance is cheap, but also easy. It's super easy to do so many of your own repairs and your own maintenance. As a fleet vehicle, maintenance cost was important to owners with 100 vehicles to maintain.

Went back the next weekend to grab an '80 from the same seller. Had to go easy on the brakes though. The size of the rear trunk is mind boggling..video doesn't do it justice. Made multiple road trips with 5 grown adults in the car and all our luggage (plus the spare, which we had to dig out onece) in the back. While I am a fan of all Panther cars, I prefer the 2003 and up Mercury Grand Marquis. I own three of them, a 2004, 2005, and 2007. The 2005 has 321,000 miles on it, still has the original engine, and it has never been apart. I recently bought the 2007, it's like new, and only has 47,000 miles on it. I like the Panther cars because they are big, have a V8 engine, are rear wheel drive, have a solid rear axle, no independent rear suspension, and are body on frame construction. Much like a truck. They are built like a tank compared to all the little front wheel drive cars that clutter the roads. The Panther platform got a major upgrade in 2003, the most important of which is an entirely new front suspension and steering setup. The got rack and pinion steering, a massive new front subframe with new cast aluminum control arms and coil overs. The reason I prefer the Grand Marquis over the Crown Vic is because it has a softer ride, softer seats, more luxury items, and a 2.73 rear axle. Combined with an automatic overdrive, it can cruise at 65 mph on a flat road with the cruise control on just barely above idle. It can get 30+ mpg. It has a 400+ mile range with a full tank. I have taken many cross country trips in these cars, they feel just like the big land yachts of the '70s. They just float over the road. I have driven 24+ hours at the time, stopping only for gas, and have slept in them many times at rest stops. The front seats in the Grand Marquis recline all the way back until they hit the rear seat. Almost as comfortable as my bed. They are 300,000+ mile cars, and parts are everywhere. And perhaps most important, they have no trash technology. No turbochargers, no variable valve timing, no cylinder deactivation, no stop/start, 2 valves per cylinder, no self driving garbage, no touch screen, they are just basic cars. Sadly, while millions were made, they are beginning to disappear. For a long time they were so cheap that people just bought them and trashed them. Prices are going up. I suggest that anyone who likes these cars buy one. Or two. Or three.

Yes they are more fun than an adult should have. I had a 1990 Crown Vic ex detective car from a suburb of Cleveland. Dark blue and sublime. Used to drive from Cleveland to California 2 to 3 times a year to hang with all my buddies in LA and do various spelunking around places like the Nevada test site the California Sierras and high-speed highway driving. Got my fastest ticket ever in that car in the Texas Panhandle on my way home after doing 10,000 miles in one month in California. One of my best grand trips, Probably the best. Three in the morning and I have front and rear radar detectors and scanners and everything else in the car and I’m going flat out on a two Lane crossing between I-10 and I-40 and some more on route 60 near Hereford Texas I passed two White specs while my radar detectors exploded out of nowhere. Well I’ve already been through a couple flee-and-elude Chases and I’m not in Cleveland. So I slow down pull over and wait. Finally come the two gendarmes. A very large man gets out of the first car puts on his big hat and I said oh fuck Texas Rangers. We start chatting and he goes going little faster weren’t ya, yes sir, what’s the hurry, well I’ve been gone for a month and a half I’ve done close to 14,000 miles and I’m going to be home tomorrow I’m tired. And his eyes about bugged out in the dark and said you’re in West Texas in the panhandle. I said yes sir ha. He didn’t like that answer. Then he goes well I don’t know how fast you were going. Because you came up on us so quick my damn radar wouldn’t register you. What kind of car is that, its a crown Vic sir. And he looks all around it and then asks was this a police car? Yes sir. And then he asks about the seven antennas on the roof and the radio gear on the dash that makes his two cars look like oilfield truckers. And I began to show him all the different gear that I use when I’m out around places like Nellis Air Force base or Area 51 and he’s like really! So I tell him a little about my hobbies of looking at places like that. He takes my paperwork goes to his car comes back and hands me a ticket. So I’m going to write you for 120 miles an hour. I’m guessing you were doing every bit of 150 sign here. And I would like you to take a little more time to leave Texas OK. He was a nice gentleman and when you’re basically polite and you wait for the officer you drove by at three times the speed limit At three in the morning you can’t your blessings and you leave Texas carefully. Because I’ve had a few other run ins in Texas. Like one Dallas cop asked you and 1973 “son do you know what the man act is” looking like something that just came out of haight Ashbury, you say yes sir, and he says get out of my state. Don’t get me wrong I love Texas but I’ve had a few circumstances down there. But there is no funk like an ax police or rescue vehicle. And yes I had a type III life star ambulance for my electrical truck. You think a crown Vic gets respect, you aught to see what it’s like pulling out of the driveway and Into traffic with an ambulance, it’s like Moses waving you the go ahead sign you look important. I would love to have another one. No fun like ask government vehicles that cost a boatload originally. Have fun with that beast. They’re hard to hurt.

Rear chunk tucked and cv axles with independent rear suspension same for the front allowing the new rack and pinion to work perfectly. Having this lift is amazing. On or off road this car is stable. Police pushbar on the front and a impact bar on the rear. Roof rack. We have a winch on the front. The frame we add strength to it. I spent way to much money on this car but in the end it turned out amazing.

A couple things I don't think you mentioned. The P71's have fully boxed frames for more strength. Normal vic's do not have boxed frames. P71'S also have extra coolers for oil & transmission & they have skid plates for that off road use.

Mine has 3k idle hours but only 80k when I bought it Behind the center piller plastic (between the front seats and rear doors, pull back the plastic and plug in your rear windows. Also, on mine after taking the rear interior door panels off it was easy to reconnect the old door locks / handles. The little pull-up door lock things were just bent down under the panels so I just used some pliers to bend them back up and poke them back through the holes on the rear interior door panels

Howdy Partner! LA chick here! Well I bought the police interceptor 2011 last year! I have owned many cars in my life high end to the lemons. I love my car! I feel safe! Its large and so glad I bought this car! My first ford too. Mine has the rhino bar infront as well. Peace and Rock n Roll! By the way my last car was a Chrysler 300 sold on super low mileage for my crown. No regrets. The pretty car day isnt what counts its Reliability and safety.

I manage a cab company. We still have 65 of these cars, most with over 300,000 miles. General maintenance is all they need. They ONLY weak point is rust, typically the driver side front fender and the passenger rear floor pan rust.

Great video. I have the same car, white, 2011, the two spotlights, I don't have the Rhino push bar, yet. Just over 140k. Whether you're going 25mph or 100mph, the ride is smooth. For a big, heavy sedan these things can get up and boogie. They're not "Corvette" fast but coming on to the freeway (I'm in San Diego) I punch it and I'm at least up to freeway flow of traffic in no time. As impressive as the pick up is, I think the way these cars stop is more impressive. I was driving up a mountain at night, twisty road, out of the corner of my right eye I saw a stop sign and slammed on the brakes. I was stunned how fast that car stopped! I'd recommend them to anyone. Only not great thing is the 15mpg, but with all the benefits, only 15 mpg is an easy trade off. Again, really enjoyed this video. Be safe.

Hey Matt beautiful car, I own a 2008 p71 Black on Black 97k Original South FL Miles , Im not sure if your Police car came with the original handbook , Thou it clearly states you should not Mount and Lights or Hardware other then a Push Bar ( Push bar can have lights on it ) On the grill of the p71 because it Messes with Aero Dynamics and Cooling of the Vehicle .... Please Read The Manual :)

It's really great having a car like that with 0-60 times did I say they were slow it's like watching grass grow not to mention all the transmission problems and the intake manifold leaks and the spark plugs that have and if not properly install will crash through the hood when you're driving what a great car it is and if you buy one that has over 1,000 idling miles good luck

The Vic has all the performance parts for a Ford full sized sedan. It has the right components to make it handle well with oversize shocks and springs, plus the good sway bars. The transmissions have a better program and smaller torque converter for better power delivery. They have aluminum driveshafts, standard equipment. The only problem is the plain Jane interior. I have a P71 that I have drove for years and a MGM with the nicer leather interior. The Grand Ma is the same basic car as the P71 with nicer interior, but it just doesn't jump around as well. Besides that... Everything you say is absolutely true.

this is how I clean the floor in the police interceptor, I leave an old t-shirt outside in front of the shed. once in a blue moon I will run the hose on the shirt and then with a partially wet shirt just pick up the sand from the floor area.. no carpet 🤠 it's magic.

I personally like the Grand Marquis as a daily driver a bit better. Only because you can get them for the same price as a P71 (dirt cheap) an its typically owned by old people who keep them mint. P71 however seems like a fun project fun car. Cant go wrong with any panther tho.

I have a 2013 police interceptor sedan ecoboost (taurus). It is pretty quick, 370ish hp, get average low 20s mpg city. Has upgraded cooling, I added 13 Taurus sho 1 inch lower springs. Stance is perfect, driveability is a little stiff. Still has factory police tune (keeps rpm band high if you brake hard into and exit corners) upgraded cooling. Great daily, been reliable, has the power when you need it. No problems, now has 83k miles. Might be selling next year to get a older suburban. Will trade if anybody has a 8.1l or 7.4 suburban in good shape ;)
