love to hear how it goes plus any tips you have afterwards. i’m also on a fit for 2kw of my array, in the process of trying to get it approved as 1/5 of my total as an upgrade.

Can’t wait to see how it all goes and the Rewards????? Subbed to your channel!
@JonathanTracey

Thanks for the sub! i’m hoping i have my maths right and the solar/batteries will power the heat pump for about 9 months of the year, stay tuned to find out if i can’t add up :-)

I have tried to get a heat pump from Octopus, filled in the initial form and was told we currently don't fit pumps in west Wales. Two months I receive an email from Octopus asking if I still want a pump as they now do installations in my area. Fill in the forms again and wait. Now told my house is in the wrong place for a pump so Octopus will not fit one. I currently use oil. Not impressed with Octopus I am afraid.

Have you tried British Gas, my friend had similar experience, BG said no problems and installed one

what happens when there’s power cuts which will come under labour’s energy policy? and don’t say gas boilers need electric too, because they use very little and can be powered by a cheap portable power station like say Jackery make.
@JonathanTracey
@JonathanTracey День назад
my first thing would be, what evidence do you have to say “they will come” and you may be able to power your boiler with a jackery but if power outages are on that scale what’s powering the local gas pumping station ?
@JonathanTracey
@JonathanTracey День назад
and if there are power cuts in the next couple of years it’s far more likely to be from the energy policies of the last government, you know who had over a decade to fix it
@over-engineered
@over-engineered День назад
@@JonathanTracey actually all governments are useless at planning ahead for energy

now that we can agree on, i’m hoping to see the new one at least do something about standing charges. they go up multiple times a year even if rates go down. it’s a tax because you can’t avoid it

I've got the 9Kw daikin from octopus to go with my 6kw solar and 19kw batteries.. You won't get regret your decision. My house is roasting. Running an ev and heating/hot water my combined energy bill for September was £40. Including the standing charge.
@kloddi25
@kloddi25 2 дня назад
How much did that cost you?
@JonathanTracey
@JonathanTracey 2 дня назад
Do you have enough capacity to run it from stored energy, I’m hoping that most of the usage will come from battery stored energy, only pulling from grid in extreme cold days ?

@JonathanTracey originally I had a 9.5kw battery with solar..i doubled up for winter specifically for the ashp when it got installed - working off the basis that for 6 in 24 hours I will be charging and heating simultaneously at 7p per kw on IOG EV tariff. 11.30pm-5.30am. So far so good. Currently have 50-60% by time of recharge slot and heatings been on recently. I do anticipate there will be cold snaps that may burn off all 19kw but hoping these will be the exception. So I'm building up a surplus credit to cover this possibility. 20kw or so storage seems to be a sweet spot for storage for ashp.

@digitalfantazia3953 День назад
@@kloddi25the 6kw solar array plus original 9.5kw battery was 11k. Bought 2.5 years ago. I got a loan specifically for this bit with term matching projected payback time of 5 years. Currently on schedule to be paid off in 2.5 more years. Half paid off already with current/previous energy prices. So pleased with that. Battery has 12 year warranty. ASHP cost me about 2k after grant, but as I have a barclays mortgage they also gave me an energy grant of 2k on top of government 7.5k grant. Octopus also knocked off a further £200 as Daikin were doing a deal which Octopus passed on to customers.. So I got the ashp free basically. I then bought a second 9.5 battery for 3k for the winter months of using ASHP.. so the total install cost to me for everything (Solar, 19.5kw of Batteries, inverters and ASHP) was £14k.

@JonathanTracey День назад
That’s encouraging, I’m on agile right now but will switch to IOG for winter. Were heavy users so have nearly 40kwh of batteries and was considering more but may hold on and see how this winter goes

Just wait to this modern technology gos wrong . Very costly
@JonathanTracey
@JonathanTracey 8 часов назад
so i took out the extended warranty and it gets serviced every year for 5 years. so no more expensive than my 27 year old obsolete boiler

I had the 6kW Daikin installed in February, I've not been disappointed as yet. When set up correctly it is more than capable. Might be worth checking that an external thermostat on North facing wall is included in installation (as set out in Daikin installation manual), if HP is sitting in Sunlit corner the external temperature reading (and thus weather compensation) can be skewed a bit. It can become a hobby in its own right :-)
@JonathanTracey
@JonathanTracey 2 дня назад
Thanks for the tip, it’s included but it does not specify a location so will make sure it’s not in direct sun. Did you zone the house or just go with one zone?
@_Dougaldog

Agreed. External sensor north facing in shade. Had to ask my engineers to fit it as they nearly forgot... relying on internal one on ASHP isn't sufficient. They were nice sbout it though. Wasnt an issue.
@JonathanTracey

Do you want it in the most shaded spot or just north facing

Based on your drone footage looks like you are in Cambridgeshire, there is a non-zero chance that I'll be doing your install (I work for Octopus).
