The good old motovlog, almost no fancy editing, a ride out around the corner to test my new motovlog set-up:
the DJI Osmo Action 4 as my POV camera
with DJI Osmo Action Mic Adapter (this is a must if your mic is a bit too hot, the mic adapter is PAD-ed down by -20db)
Rode SmartLav+ (TRRS) with TRRS to TRS Rode adapter (this one is going to go, either to be replaced by wired Rode Lav Go TRS mic, or simply will use my DJI Wireless Mic2 hooked wirelessly to the camera.
Settings:
Automatic exposure set on the camera, only EV compensation set to -0.7 as most of the action cameras tend to overexpose a bit.
Auto white balancing, seems to work perfect.
Standard colour profile, but also tested with the 10-bit D-Log M which I will use going forward to colour-grade in Davinci Resolve. However, for this it will take me a few more tests to get the colour grading and pre-sets correct.
Standard sharpness (looks a bit too much to my eye, will tune it down a bit and sharpen in post-production)
Audio gain on the camera tuned down further to -17db, but could crank it up a bit higher even for the Rode lav mic I've got, possibly to somewhere -7 to -10db. This I will test a bit further.
Note, there is a bit of a wind noise at higher speeds, but this has nothing to do with the camera set up, it's merely placement of the lav mic in my helmet, I fiddled with this a bit recently too. That said, it needs a bit more adjustments.
Other than that, I'm very, very happy with the camera. What a nice upgrade.
