Say NO to Lightning Trout!

I took out the float tube on a stock day hoping for a hot bite, unfortunately there were lightning trouts as part of the stocking. Hear my advice on how to increase your chances of landing these unique fish.

Little Camouflage was the first Golden Rainbow Trout ever. Born and reared in Petersburg, WV. You should google the story, it’s interesting. I grew up about 30 minutes from the hatchery, we also hate the Golden Rainbow. It’s a locator fish. In the rivers around here if you see a goldy you know immediately there are 10 rainbows under it.

I just read the story of Little Camouflage and that was very interesting. Thanks for letting us know. It appears from the beginning that these fish have always been known to be less active then rainbow trout.

@@calloftheoutdoors8941 Absolutely, they are way less active. You were spot on. People will spend all day trying to catch one fish. I also like that y’all call them Lightening Trout. Haven’t heard that one before. Palomino and Nanner Trout are common around here and just north of us in Pennsylvania.

I was fishing yesterday, Monday, and it was slow. I only caught 1 a lightning trout 7.76 pounds on garlic glitter rainbow power bait. Wish I could add a photo of him, but the marina took a photo and weighed it for me.

@@calloftheoutdoors8941 You should talk more about where your Baits are available at Freeport Market. I just got back from Freeport Market. I haven't been there for 15 years before it became a Fishing Bait and Tacle Store. Wow! They have everything. Great Store. Of course talk about the other store too.

I saw your reel went backwards, yikers, what do you think is wrong? Alsk what line are u running?

Yep, you saw that right. I haven't figured out the problem yet so I will need to take it in to get it repaired(if they can). In this video I was using 4lb Maxima FC line. I don;t recommend it, the line is too big for trout and I kept getting line knots when throwing 1/32 oz jigheads.

What rod are you jigging with?

Thomas I was using the Daiwa Presso AIR AGS 510XUL Spinning Rod. You cannot get them in US stores, it can be ordered from Japan though.

@@calloftheoutdoors8941how do you like the action for mini jigs? I have a different UL jdm rod. Love the sensitivity but wish it had a slower action for mini jigs. Is the daiwa presso air 510 underpowered at all for bigger lassens?

Go early in the morning if you can. Trying jigs and powerbait in the morning will be your best bet to catch your limit. By 11am the action will slow down. Pick up some of my shad minnows because they work and good luck out there!

If you want some elbow room that is the best option I think. But you can still catch a bunch of fish from the bank too.

Literally right after you left i got in the tube😭 went to the lake caught one off the boat then just said screw it and went in the pond

They only stocked those trout for 1 year here in NJ. Unfortunately the hatchery had a viral outbreak 2 years ago and they had to destroy al the brown and brooks.strictly rainbows now
