Lionel Ritchie and Phil Collins are the last romantics. this is the song I danced for the first time with my wife Claudia. she went to heaven 4 years ago, but I always listen this song with great love.
This movie is such a beautiful celebration of friendship and the things it can accomplish. It makes me so sad Hollywood has zero interest in telling stories like this anymore.

I totally agree. I was heartbroken. I was a fan since I saw him tap dancing on TV as a child. I consider him a complete entertainer. He could sing, dance, act, direct, produce, and choreograph. I was blessed to meet him at work and told him how much I admired his work. He would invite me and my girlfriend at the time to dinner before his show he would return to perform. I told him he the closest performer to Sammy Davis Jr. I would probably meet. A highlight of my life. My favorite movie of his was Running Scared and this film. I also loved Mr. Bojangles his final film.
Yes they were! It was Mikhail Baryshnikov who gave me an appreciation of male ballet. Before that I believe most of the US preferred female ballet. I hardly ever saw male ballet on TV as a kid. Both of these men are global legends. It's a shame that they are not are hardly mentioned today.
Agreed! It's great to watch this film and see how talented he was. Dancing next to Barishnokov would be daunting for anyone, but Gregory Hines more than held his own I would say.
I had a chance to meet once back in the early 2000s. I worked at a holiday inn doing security. We took up a ride in the elevator together. Very nice man. He left us too early. I still enjoy his movies and have quite a collection of his on DVD. 😃👍

I was like 6 yrs old when I went to this camping resort for vacation and knew a girl that was there every year. The first thing she mentioned when I saw her was this song. I felt like such a nerd because I didn't know it. I'm no longer a nerd.

I was a metal head back in the 80s and never listened to Lionel Ritchie, I am sure I even turned my nose up and sneered at people who like "That pop crap". How wrong I was. Lionel's voice is so smooth and soothing. Total class, and I missed out for a long time. Don't be like I was. Go ahead and prefer whatever music you like, but do not dismiss other artists just because they are not in your favorite genre. True talent is a rare thing, when you come across it, treasure it.
Agree. I think we all can put a "type" to music, but good music is good music, regardless of genre. And I seriously love the part when Ritchie sings "When we go down life's highways..." I think that is such an impactful message for anyone, anytime, and such an amazing part of this song.
rick Kennedy, I was the same way. I don't really regret it because as I got older I became more knowledgeable about the music being played on the radio. It's who we were at the time. Metal rules... I'll be a metal head forever lol.... as I got older I became more interested in classic rock. The Commodores being one of the bands I love along with Lionel Richie solo... I'm glad we grew up when we did.

Well that's totally, being young you don't think of anything at all just ways to have fun and enjoy but as you grow old, things start changing, that's the phases of life.
Great movie, great song, but my favorite memory of this will always be how every time this song played at the club, everyone would slow dance to this beautiful song until that moment, late in the song, when the tempo changes completely for a few moments. Everyone would freeze and look at each other: "Are we supposed to dance fast now? Wait until it's finished and goes back to the slow part? Walk back to our tables?" Never did figure out the proper way to dance to this one, LOL.
