A local mauritian here. Appreciate your video it's great seeing people from different countries enjoying the local culture. Just a slight note the best Biryani is in Port louis. It's a well known fact among locals too.
I just watched these 9 roadtrip videos. You two did a really nice job documenting it! It does make me hungry though :P I never knew Mauritius was such a nice place, that's definitely food for thought.
Thank you very much, we're glad to hear you enjoyed our videos 😊 We also didn't know much about Mauritius before visiting, but we quickly fell in love with it. Its size makes it perfect to explore by car, which was a lot of fun 🙂
Hey Zoe and Simon, I don’t typically comment on videos, but this is definitely one of those pleasant exceptions. I’ve been binging your Mauritius Road Trip series and I must say that the editing and content itself are top notch. I’m Mauritian born myself but relocated to Melbourne, Australia with my parents when I was a child. I’ve been back several times but not recently whatsoever and your videos are definitely making me miss my home country. I just need to finish my medical degree then I’m back off in instant (I probably shouldn’t be watching your videos since I have an exam tomorrow 😂). I hope you enjoyed your time in Mauritius and continue to enjoy your worldwide journey, stay safe!
It is actually wrong. Bear with me. He is a German speaker so he is pronouncing it the way he will prounounce it in German; "Mahburg". Mahebourg ( Named after Mahe de Labourdonnais) is prnounced wrongly in Creole contrary to how it would be pronounced in French. So the local way of pronoucing it would be ,making reference to German vocals, would be "Mai" (like the month may) and making reference to english would be like pronouncing "booh" the h being silent. So it "Mai (DE)-Booh(EN)". Ich hoffe es hilfe. Kreolisch ist manchmal nicht so einfach !
It was a great series!. Glad that you both had a lovely time. Keep those memories alive ,when you enter the bitter chill of German winter! Funny thing is that you are both very chill people.
Hi Zoe & Simon, I just discovered your channel a few days ago and binge watched your series on Mauritius where I was born. I now live in London. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your independent tour of the island and the research you have put in to understand the history and cultures of Mauritius and the way you have taken to the local street food. Your filming and editing skills, combined with your calm and clear narrative and gentle bantering between you two make it a joy to watch your videos. It's a shame that I did not come across your videos before my trip to Mauritius in February because I have picked up a few tips on eating places which I will check out next year, especially that biryani in Mahebourg! Full marks on your pronunciations of the place names, which made me curious about your backgrounds given neither of you has a particularly German accent. Now I know about Simon being half English from a previous comment, but that usually does not help with the impeccable French accent, so my conclusion is that you probably speak French too! I'm looking forward to watching your series on Italy which I visit a lot, followed by Asia, Australia, Germany.... Keep up with the good work educating us about food, culture and other things around the world! Wishing you both all the best with your future travels ❤
Thank you for your nice comment and the kind words! We're happy to hear you enjoyed our videos 🙂 And it's good to know we didn't completely butcher our pronounciation! 😁 We learned some French in school, but unfortunately we can't speak it anymore. All the best!
I had to pause and make this comment I live in England and seeing you guys go to pyramid has made me happy because it’s owned by our cousin and reminded me of the main person behind this briyani recipe who is not with us today! It’s good to see his hard work still paying off!!
Hi Zoe & Simon, Wishing you Bon Voyage, hope goes well for you. Your videos are a great advertisement for Mauritius. Thank you for your visit. God Bless....
Thanks for covering Mauritius! Another great video! Just came back from 30 days in Thailand and yeah, it's cold! Atleast in Sweden. Guess Germany have the same weather. Can't wait to see where you go next. :)
Thank you! ☺ Uh, nice that you could spend some time away from the cold winter, hope you had a great time! At least it's now slowly getting warmer again and summer is around the corner 🙂
Brilliant adventure Z&S. Glad you made the most out of the island. And I know that feeling of coming close to the end of sunny vacation days 😊 Fun fact, 5 years ago, I was hosting 6 German friends and we all went for lunch at the exact same spot where you had the Biryani before leaving for cold Europe ; they were heading back home and I was going for my Erasmus 😅I didn't have the opportunity to visit ever since. However the odds seem pretty high this year 😇 we will see how it goes. Hit me up if you ever visit Paris! (or Mauritius again) - I'll be glad to meet up for a beer. LG, Dylan
Hey guys. I am pretty new to the channel. I was wondering where are you from? You mentioned Germany, but I doubt it. Your accent sounds Australian to me😀Keep up with the great work. Cheers.
@@ZoeandSimon Wow. I get it for Simon now. But for you to be born German, living there as well, and to have that clean English, damn you got my respect. Thanks for answering my question😇
Thanks for the great videos. I just subscribed. I worked for Lufthansa in India so planning a trip to Maurice! Hope you had a great trip back home. I visit FRA and MUC frequently.
Hi there, we booked our car via a German rental car comparison site. We like these sites because they compare all offers and also take care of extra insurance. The rental company that we ended up going with is called "First Car" rental and everything went smoothly. We paid 48€/day incl. comprehensive insurance.
Hi guys I'm planning to visit Mauritius with my wife at the end of November begin December but I'm worried about the beaches are they really like the beaches in tropical destinations with perfect underwater sight? And if so what are the best beaches according to you? Did you book your guesthouses beforehand or after arriving there? Last question how is to drive on the left side of the road for someone who never drove on the wrong side?
Awesome trip. I have been watching your videos and making notes. We are planning to go in early September for 8 days. I am tossing on where to stay. Bel ombre seem to have nice accommodation and reasonable price. I have booked at Tamassa and we are hiring car so we can do daily trips. Been around island where do you think is nice place to stay overall. I keep changing my mind :)
Hi there, glad our videos were helpful! 🙂 Choosing where to stay is a tough decision, but it's good that you've got the rental car to check out different places during the day. Of course it all depends on what you're looking for and if you're travelling alone, as a couple or family. In the end you can have a great time anywhere, especially if you found accommodation that you like. For a mainly beach focused vacation we really enjoyed Trou-aux-Biches on the west coast, as the beach was great, the vibe relaxed and the sunsets amazing. But if we were staying a bit longer and wanted a good mix of everything then the south of Mauritius is great too! We stayed in the area around Le Morne, which is really pretty and overall the south is just less touristy. You can also easily reach some great hiking areas if you're interested in that. We didn't visit Bel Ombre however, so we can't say anything about it. For an overview of all the accommodations we stayed in we also wrote an overview of our trip on our website www.zoeandsimon.io (under itineraries). Hope that helps and that you have a great trip! 😊
Thank you! 🙂Many car rental companies require a credit card, but it varies from company to company. Some also take debit cards, but only if you pay a surcharge. So we would contact the company directly just to make sure!
