Last month, I was forced to buy a new car and retire my 2001 Honda CRV. I ended up purchasing a brand new 2023 Honda CRV Hybrid Sport. Never buy GAP insurance from the dealer. GAP insurance can usually be purchased from your car insurance provider for around $20-40 per year. That’s $120-$240 for 6 years. Just ask your insurance agent to she if your insurance company offer gap. If you just purchased this car I would go back to the dealer and get a refund if your insurance company is vastly cheaper.

Never talk monthly payment when buying a car from a dealer this is where they GET YOU, only talk price. Come pre-approved from a credit union for best rates unless dealer is offering 2.9 or something similar. Also, never trade in a car. Sell your used car on your own as the dealer turns around and makes huge profits on your car. This is in fact where they make the most money. Go to Edmunds true car value and see the difference between a trade in and retail. This is the money you could be putting in YOUR pocket folks!

I have a 6 speed manual Acura TL with 244k miles, had a 2006 Acura TSX 6 speed manual with 335k and a 2007 Acura TL automatic with 350k miles on its second transmission at 280k though. None of them burned or leaked oil always had 5k oil change intervals. Every service that was called for was done on time.. it just all depends on how well you take care of your car. My 2007 is likely almost to 400k miles because I sold it to someone locally and still see it on the road.

You didn’t need the GAP insurance that’s what your regular insurance is for assuming you have full coverage in your car insurance and you most likely do cause is a new car. Other rule: you never tell the dealer how much you want your monthly payment to be (they are not on your best interest) if you do have good. Credit score as you claimed, you should’ve used a credit union or maybe your bank? Other important rule: you never take a car loan for more than 60 months (5years) and you should’ve asked if you could get penalized for paying your loan faster instead of the $560 let’s say $700 so you can get out the loan asap

Congratulations Hallease!! One thing I do want to mention: whenever you start paying extra on the car loan, make sure you state the extra is to be applied towards the principal of the loan! The 1st two years I paid off my car loan, all the extra I was putting down went to the principal AND the interest, whereas if I had applied directly to the principal, that principal balance would have been lower faster and had less interest in the long run. Learned that one the hard way!! 😅

Congratulations on your new car and thank you for sharing the numbers. It’s good to see a video of an actual owner and not a professional reviewer who receives a review unit. One rule about buying a car is never tell the salesman how much you want to pay per month because they start doing their voodoo to make it seem like you’re getting a deal but are actually paying more than you really wanted to. The general advice is to do your research ahead of time and know what the “out the door” price is that you want to pay and negotiate from there.

We bought my wife a new Mazda CX30 last month, NEVER shop car notes, always shop OTD price including Taxes and always shop multiple dealers, we wound up driving about 1 1/2 hours away to another dealer and saved $2100 for the same exact car. It's still tough negotiating right now, I'm going to wait about another year before buying my new car.

BINGO because what the dealership will end up doing is INCREASING the years you pay for the car (or your down payment) so you can reach the "Payment" you want when you really should base everything off total cost and dont get tricked into warranties, dealer add-ons and such. Also watch the interest rates too cause dealerships can increase the rates higher by a certain percentage over what is offered by the lender. I've seen it cause I've sold cars. Hell maybe I need to start a channel about this kind of stuff.

@@RudePaul123 It should be against the law from Dealerships to be able to get money from finance companies, they aren't doing what's best for the customer, they are getting you possibly a worse finance deal because the company pays them a commission. So you not only have to deal with them trying to screw you on vehicle price, they are possibly trying to screw you on financing also.

Word of caution - Honda cars come with something called as Active Noise Cancellation and uses mics on the roofliner to make the car quiet. After market speakers installed afterward mess with this feature and will make your car a lot louder inside. I messed up a great 2017 Honda Accord EXL in my pursuit of better sound and ended up selling it within 2 years as I could not bear with increased noise inside the car after the aftermarket speaker install. I learned my lesson the hard way, hence just sharing. The car looks great! Congratulations on your purchase!

It’s also important to get an OTD price before stepping into a dealership. Know if they’ve added any additional markup and bogus fees to the total price. Unfortunately, since the pandemic too many dealerships have been price gouging. Also, get prequalified by a Credit Union and have them beat that (APR).

I am so glad I came across your page I’ve been telling people this for the longest you have to be patient and then you have to do your homework and then get out there and buy your car because if you don’t do your homework, they will get you at the signing table. I went over their head. I went to the credit union. I have my loan with them. All I have to do is find a car love this love this love this.😊

$3500 for an extended warranty? I dont know if you realized it or not but the Honda Extended warranties can be bought at a later date from another dealership for much less money. Its a Honda and in all honesty I would have avoided the extended warranty altogether....but if I HAD to do it I would have looked online at some Honda dealerships that offer the warranty thru Honda for much less money. As far as GAP insurance...I would have passed on that too, many insurance companies will offer you gap insurance for much less than Honda and its delearship offer. I used to sell cars so I know all the tricks that dealerships use. The good news is that you can go back and cancel the GAP and extended warranty and get a refund on them, hopefully they didnt get you with the "protection pkgs" and "scotchguard" bs that dealerships often add to cars.

@@ShariNicole16they mean to never tell the dealership what you want to pay monthly. Instead do your research to know what your desired cost is inclusive of taxes and fees - negotiate based on that number.

Congrats!! My wife and I bought this car on Jan 23. It's an amazing car, and our car has a blind spot monitor. Honda had stopped putting BSM on their base hybrid cars for the 2023 model for a while after we got ours. The 2024 ones have it. You got a good price!

Congratulations on your car! I bought a CR-V hybrid sport as well. For me the speakers are fine, you aren't going to blast music at max in the car anyway. Also I found a really good solution for the blutooth carplay, buy a carplay bluetooth dongle. That works wonders! cheap solution so you don't need to upgrade to the highest trim just for it. Hope this tip helps.

Good, thorough information given! You may want to go ahead and refinance with your local Credit Union if you haven’t already. I’ve been working in the Credit Union industry since 2006 and with my current Credit Union, in SC btw, since 2015. I am in lending and our GAP Insurance is $499 and our Extended Warranty is probably half the cost that you paid for. If that’s something you’re interested in, feel free to reach out! Do not ever talk monthly payments because only YOU have control over that. Negotiate ONLY the out the door price. When you get that amount, your credit determines your interest rate. Then having a down payment or not determines your monthly payment. Not the dealership. They do not help you for nothing. They do not care one bit about you. That is why sales people have bad reputation with people because they will sell a car to somene who can only afford the first 3 payments. After that, you are gone and they care less and your car gets repossessed for many people out there. They are all thieves and liars who will make you pay more for a car so they can get paid extra. That is how they make a living by making a sale and making extra money if they sell it for more. Sales guy wants to make as much loney as possible. If he is kind and honest, he will never make any money selling cars that is why they have to lie and sell you all kinds of bs. Also, remember that you must pay full coverage insurance every month. That in some way is part of your monthly payment that people do not know about. So, what you pay every month to drive that car is monthly payments PLUS full coverage insurance. You must pay both every month. So, that is your total car payment every month. So, in your case your car payments might now be about $650 or more. You can get GAP cheaper than that. You may not even need it as long as you are NOT upside down on your loan to car value. I never get GAP when I put a down payment. Plus, they make you finance the GAP, and that makes it more expensive. Even financing the extended warranty when you could have gotten it cheaper somewhere else directly from Honda. If you are part of the CR-V car forum, you will get that information easily.

Always get gap insurance when buying a car especially if you’re financed and on a longer payment term even if you have full coverage insurance! 1 year later your car may only be worth $20K but your remaining loan could be $27K you wouldn’t be on the hook for the $7K difference. Also I found out that in a lot of cases where if your car is totaled, you have gap but insurance pays out the full amount owed, your gap insurance payment is fully refundable.

You’re so lucky that you could get the price that low because in California, that same CR-V I seen sticker price was $37K. 😢❤$1,000 for your trade! Congrats on the car :) Up here in Canada, just the MSRP is $46K, and dealers aren't willing to negotiate an inch. On top of that, provincial taxes of 15%, AND insurance of almost 250 a month, and interest rate of 7.29%. Yep, Gonna be paying almost 1000+ a month for an EXL hybrid Honda + insurance up here in Canada with a 7K downpayment. Fun times :).

Remember that when you put money down on a vehicle, in the event you total it you will ordinarily not get that money back. Also, you can almost always get more for your old vehicle if you sell it yourself than if you trade it in. For example, once a dealer offered me $5000 for my old vehicle, but I kept it and sold it the next day for $7000.

I had my 2001 Honda CRV for 22 years. It is the best car ever. It always starts and has never stopped. My car only has 50,000 miles on it. There was a recall years ago; and they put in a new vetch motor. The car has never been in an accident. The interior looks new. The body is in excellent condition and only has one rust spot above the passenger side back wheel. The car does need a new motor for the driver window, but you can a new one for under. $75.00. The car also needs new brake lines. I have been looking at newer cars. However, I have been told repeatedly not to get rid of the car, to drive it until the wheels fall off, that you cannot kill the car, and that I could probably get another 100,000 miles on her. She is Red and still cute with the original covered wheel on the back. I just discovered that there is a folding table under carpet of the cargo trunk. Also, that you can completely fold down the seats and sleep in it. I haven't decided what I am going to do. However, new cars are so expensive, and it is nice not having a car note.

Yes, the folding table was SO helpful over the years. It was originally designed to be for camping if I recall correctly. CRV - Comfortable Runabout Vehicle

Yep. I hated all the things you don't like on this one when I got my 2022 Accord. I went for an oil change and walked out with a 2023 CRV EXL. Omg it has alllll the features i could ever want. ❤

the used car market is crazy, i recently bought a brand new rav4 and the trim i got was very sought after so it was cheaper for me to buy it new than to buy it used?? i was able to negotiate the price and some rebates as well, i had to wait a couple of months but it was worth it for the trim and color i wanted. we also looked at the crv i just liked the look a little bit more for the rav but they're both lovely! the best advice i can give it to go to a good dealer, the first dealer i went to tried to force me into buying something i didn't want and then when i went to another dealer they worked with me and got me exactly what i wanted.

Wow, I learned the difference between carbon neutral and carbon positive. Thank you for being informative. I think it's a bit crazy how some of these carbon neutral options when it comes to plugin or electric are so out of reach for most people that it's difficult to recommend. A good electric car will start north of 40k, and the incentives are available for those paying enough in taxes. Just a thought.
