Oh hush now -- for *centuries*, the color of your skin and your gender determined how you were treated and "guided" your future. And after laws were put into place to both stop and try to comp for all those many, many years of mistreatment, a too large percentage of Americans not only resented such efforts from the get go, but actively fought against them because, well, they are sort of people always trying to make the world a worse place, whether they are aware of that or not.

If I listened to Ms. Stepman with my eyes closed, I would hire her based on her communication skills alone. If I opened my eyes and found she was black, I would find this to be irrelevant. I would hire her because she would most likely do a great job. She would be an outstanding member of my team.
