People would remember him to be the one who was dunked on by Carter but the most significant part about him is HE IS A GOOD FATHER… A GOOD MAN and HE TRULY LOVES HIS SON and family. That’s what matters.
Yeah but we don’t know that nor do we care about that. It’s irrelevant to his basketball career and irrelevant to the audience. Imagine doing that for every athlete that ever existed… You can’t. He is the guy who got dunked over by Vince Carter and there is nothing wrong with it. He took it way too personally and shouldn’t have. He might a be a great guy but it’s irrelevant to the people watching basketball.
Actually in France he is known for being in the team that got the first silver medal for France at the Olympics. And he doesn't live in the US. So I think he is doing just fine.
Getting posterized is embarrassing but a part of the game. It is HUGE to say you were a silver medalist in the olympics. That is a lifelong achievement. To play pro in any sport at any level is also an achievement, let alone to also be drafted into the NBA. People like me dream about those things. Congrats on your success.
Especially when the US was unbeatable back then. Then you're the best of the rest of the World. I was watching the French Basketball team in the 90s and he was a good player. Silver medal in the Olympics was absolutely phenomenal & unexpected.
@@erich3784 lol Except they weren't, in the Semi final game if that last second 3 pointer goes in they don't even medal. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UPkLlrJaD-E.html
Hello from Maryland, Fred Weis you’re an inspiration. One dunk doesn’t define everything you have done in and out of the court. Many giant Greats have been dunked on in the NBA. Nate on Yao; Shaq on Dudley; Pippen on Ewing life goes on bud
Thank you for sharing Fred Weis' story! I didn't know him too much until the past few years when he started working for the French Basketball Show "NBA Extra" and he's really good as an analyst, commentator, and a lively personality. This was a very touching video!
I'm from his hometown in France and I'm glad that he's doing good. I hear him commenting live basketball games sometimes and I love his comments, he's great at this !
If I need to know everything that is wrong with society today, most of them are in these comments. Trolls sitting behind a keyboard making fun of a guy who had personal struggles because they can’t deal with how insecure they are in their own lives. Embarrassing behavior honestly
Yeah. And many people just look at the basketball perspective of "being dunked on" by someone which is very shallow thinking. Life is bigger than basketball. Basketball is only part of life and not the other way around. How about showing some empathy for the person and appreciating his love for his son and family? I dunno with some of these people who are just typing hateful and degrading comments.
Thank you for sharing this story. Its important on so many levels, including a window into a parent’s mind and soul when their child is diagnosed with autism. Happy to see him happy
As a Knicks fan. I remember that draft night like it was yesterday. The NBA was still the league of centers so I understood why the Knicks made that pick! Plus the Knicks were moving on from Patrick Ewing so they needed a center!
I just remember him being in NBA Live on the Knicks and all I knew was he was a 7’2” 1st round pick and as a Sixers fan I would sometimes trade for guys like him to build young teams around Iverson. I actually never even realized he never played in the NBA til years later and it felt like a Manella Effect because I would swear I remember him at the end the bench. Weird. Which is why I also felt like at the moment and probably still now the Carter dunk is the greatest in game dunk ever, I remember some of my friends downplaying it like he’s a euro scrub and me arguing no he’s a 7’2 former 1st round pick haha. At the same time I dunno how they passed on Ron Artest tho.
I've had the opportunity to play with him in his training camp, and if there's something sure, it is that this man is such a great human being, people making fun of him don't know anything particularly when it is about basketball. He was a great player, a medalist so put some respect to someone who achieved something some famous nba players never done in their whole career.
People just commenting from click baits instead of ACTUALLY seeing the GOD DAM VIDEOS. I'm so sick of it. They think is all laughs until they discover the real-life struggles of this noble giant. Can't stand this. Honestly.
It’s so disappointing that most of the comments in here make fun of the guy or aren’t related to what made this guy depressed. It’s all fun and games until you have a loved one that’s neurodivergent. Instead of promoting love and understanding, people resort to bullying. Appreciate ESPN for sharing Weis’ story. Life isn’t all about sports.
Yeah but we don’t know that nor do we care about that. It’s irrelevant to his basketball career and irrelevant to the audience. Imagine doing that for every athlete that ever existed… You can’t. @@ChickityChicken so according to your poor knowledge of depression and autism, only the poorest of the poor have “the right” to be depressed? You are a perfect example of someone who’s ignorant about depression and autism. Try to be better.
@@awesomereviews1561 He never took it personal. He even said it in this very documentary. Did you watch it ? I dn't think so. Nobody is saying you don't have the right to laugh at the dunk, it's just that... this documentary (you didn't watch) is not about the dunk.
he was very good in his late years in career. Clever and intelligent guy . He made passes, dunk. Very good. He led his team Limoges to a multiple titles year : national, European , and cup ! Great guy
Ce poster dunk de Vince carter traduit aussi la gentillesse de Frédéric Weis car il aurait pu le blesser gravement s’il l’avait voulu… mais il a pris soin de son intégrité physique. Un Grand Monsieur!
Unless you don’t speak French then it’s ok to assume that he doesn’t sound French!! Americans of all people should know they are Americans from different backgrounds!! France is bordered by Spain, Germany, Italy, and England by the etc!!
2:20.. Vince said "Get up before he gets up to block my shot.." but the problem was he never got up, and if he jumped the slightest, the dunk would never had happened.. Can't blame Weis, he did the most logical thing, took the charge, but even Vince didn't know he jumped over him, that's how crazy, adrenalin fueled moment that was, you can't predict it
Seems it was way more about being away from his son , shame about his diagnosis, and losing his first wife that brought him to suicide attempt than Vince Carter
OMG they did a mini documentary on this man 😂….Vince dunking is truly one of the best dunks ever and I didn’t know he was 7’2 always heard he was simply 7ft
Now and then it's good to be reminded that people we see who work in the public eye - athletes, performers, etc - have so much going on we know nothing about. Even if you follow TMZ and the rest obsessively you have such a tiny piece of the picture of who they really are.... Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.
Have you watched it before you wrote this ? The guy litterally played 10 years after this dunk. His downspiral coming from havin an autistic child and alcool troubles. Man this days people cant even watch a 6 minutes video before commenting on it...
We all remember him as the 7'2" guy that got embarrased and jumped over by VC15 in sydney 2000 but This is the other side of his personal story a loving and responsible father ❤
A very good analyst with NBA Extra team , we.love him. And he's been dunked on because Vince had to, he made him jumped higher, its the privilège of good defenders, you are not afraid to be dunked on....its the game 😊
This guy should see the disrespect Vince Carter was given towards the end of his career The guy is a dunking legend and my fave player growing up Half man half amazing Cool story yeah poster dunks get replayed for years Hope this man is living his best life
In my opinion, Vince Carter's dunk over Frederic Weis was the best in-game dunk in Basketball History! Dunking Over a 7'2 person in-game is unfathomable, insane and will never be done again.
Also no one will have such a long NBA career without winning a single championship, not even appearing in one NBA finals. Stats king, championship pauper.
@@rickzane6433 You life-long consistent underachievers with no accomplishments, always have something negative to say about people that have more praiseworthy accomplishments and have made way more money than you.
@CutFromADifferentCloth7 you also know about my finances? There is a leak in my entourage and I will fix it. But you know what can't be fixed? Carter's last shot in game 7 against the Sixers. Still stings after all these years and 2019 was great, but the hurt will remain.
