Thanks for making your instrument open-source, Andy! Pure genius! Always love learning about your projects. My soldering experience is limited to mechanical keyboard switches so I haven't done any soldering for smaller components like ICs. I'm considering challenging myself but I feel like the components might be too small. I've seen tutorials for drag soldering methods for ICs on PCBs and solder paste stenciling with heat guns that don't look too far out of my reach.

Awesome project. Non-SMD components would be easier, but after watching some videos about soldering them, I'm considering giving it a go :)

Unfortunately many of the components are only available in SMD, but once you get the hang of it you'll find through-hole components a pain in the ass :) No drilling/trimming to do :)

Hey ! Nice work ! Just wondering, SD Cards are well knows in Embeded Deviceds to die soon or later due to R/W (professional experience talking here : SD Card dying after 6 months, medium ranged price, using Debian on 24/7 Embeded Devices, know we are using NAND Flash, been more than a year, no problems). I went on Olimex (and supposed it was the one : A13-SOM-256) and saw it was possible to use NAND Flash which last years, in further developments, will you use it ?

Your github is awesome! Is there any major difference in the sc1000 vs the mk2 or is it just a software difference? Also do you have stl file available if we wanted to print the case ourselves?

Awesome job! Files are downloaded and I have started to order parts. I will try to make this one out of sheet metal and really try to get that professional look. What are your thoughts on getting the platter to rotate?
@TheRasteri

Motorized platters were never a priority for me (I wanted to keep this project simple and cheap), but a few people are experimenting :) I'd like to see a teardown of the Traktor S4 MK3, maybe it would give some good ideas?

White male visiting shenzhen now. Would likely get along great. Currently pondering if I should brave reentering china in 2 weeks because been in the middle of learning PCB design and don’t know where to store the equipment I bought already if I go to another country for a while to better guarantee the next entry is easy. Was sadly searched for HOURS when entered about a month and a half ago. Would have maybe been easier to enter the UK illegally. Sigh… Anyway, Thanks for posting one of the best open source hw projects I have ever found. I make iOS apps and have also been pondering making an app and bt xfader. Recommend any other small and easy awesome open source projects?

That's brilliant. The scratching sounds better than most CDJ platter scratching. How does it interpret what the platter is doing? I'm guessing the magnet rotating is involved (=electrical current right?)
@layeetskeeters9244

a small magnetic field sensor. Similar ones used in electric scooter throttles and other applications. Also important the magnet is diamectric and not axially magnetized

@TheRasteri - I'm now at the assembly/testing stage and all is well. However, I'm after a mod if possible. Right now I see you have it setup to use touch sensing onto J4. I was hoping to bypass this so that the sample wont play with no hand on the platter. Ive tried shorting J4 to ground but no luck. My reason for this is that I want it to behave like a regular record. I wish to use a marker so that samples are always at the same marker postition etc. For phrasing etc I really need this. My idea was to load a sample with marker at 12oclock then i could navigate though samples and they would always be at same position. Same as a record. My other idea(not as important) was to use an actual record /vinyl cut down as the platter but this wont work as I suspect it has to be conductive/metal. Is there anyway I can achieve this or would these changes have to be done on the code by yourself? Im almost there tho. Just need to buy a crossfader ;)
@TheRasteri
@TheRasteri 5 лет назад
That will definitely need a software mod. Should be pretty simple though, remind me in a few days haha
@thisall4real
@thisall4real 5 лет назад

@thisall4real
@thisall4real 5 лет назад
@@TheRasteri Just an idea. If code could be updated to run as normal with j4 as touch sensor or say the way i want if j4 was shorted to ground. Then by using a switch on front panel the user could toggle the 2 modes. 1 switch position could be as standard, 1 switch position could be vinyl emulation. See what you think you could do ;)

@@Billkwando I know this comment is 3 years old, but it is dripping of so much freaking entitlement I can't help but give it the "F.U." it deserves. The man gave you permission and everything you need to know to make one yourself. Then later, someone went and assembled it for you, as well. And, you have the nerve to say it's pointless because the portable mini DJ controller is the same price as... a DJ controller. The problem isn't the cost of an assembled unit. The problem is that you don't understand the point The whole point of the project was to design a mini portable DJ controller that would be easy for hobbyists to make. The point was not to make a mini DJ controller at a price point that makes Billkwando happy. You want cheap tech? learn how to make it yourself. If you choose not to learn how, then you will just have to pay whatever price the manufacturers decide to charge. TL;DR - EFF YOU!
@Billkwando

@@jonholzworth4463 If my comment was dripping with anything, it was matter of factness. There's a reason stuff like radio kits aren't popular anymore. Why build a crappy version of something you can get a much better retail version of, particularly for the same price? Go cry in your raspberry pi.

Anyone having issues building this. I have problems getting the code to run in the olimex(i think). If I take the Rasteri PCB and plug my first Olimex board in it runs and LED comes on. If i then swap out this olimex board for another(same sd etc) it wont work. So I bought a 3rd Olimex board and this does the same. I can only get it running on the 1 Olimex. everything else is the same. (SD Card, main PCB etc). Please help lol

That is super weird. I've been seeing odd issues with certain olimex modules. I have some broken ones on the way to me right now, once I have inspected them I'll maybe have some answers.
