This competition will be the 36th ESL-hosted SC2 competition since the inaugural StarCraft II Intel® Extreme Masters competition at Gamescom in 2010. The tournament is once again taking place at the legendary Spodek Arena, deep within the heart of European professional gaming, Katowice. From February 25 through to March 3, 76 of the world’s best StarCraft II players will battle it out for the largest tournament prize pool outside of the StarCraft II World Championship Series.

"Maybe this is the limit to the skill that I have. . . " This is so inspiring. To make it to 8 grand finals he is literally the top 2 in the world at what he does. and yet just like any of us, he is constantly doubting himself. So glad Soo never give up and finally persevered and become a world champion. What an amazing story.

this is maybe the most emotional I've gotten from a SC2 final, haha. It broke my heart watching him get 2nd place again and again at GSL and looking so sad. It's really a great story getting to see him finally get to raise that trophy and get all teary-eyed talking about his experience.

Hi ESL, sorry i have to ask this every time. When you make a playlist, please do NOT put the final video first in the playlist. If someone tries to watch this playlist, first they see the grand final, as a spoiler, then they watch the semi, then the quarters etc. can you see how this is a terrible viewing experience? the qualifiers should be first, and the finals should be the last video in the playlist!

I´m a big man from the north forrests of Europe, but I can, of course anonomusly, admit i cried. Soo had to work so hard for this, and to see his reaction was the most real and true thing i've seen in quite a while.

This is the first time I ever shed tears for a championship. I was moved by Serral winning Blizzcon but for some reason seeing soO win knowing his story touch me even deeper.

@@jamrah8713 Back-to-back-to-back-to-back Code S finals starting from 2013, all second places. 2 more Code S second places that were also back-to-back in 2017, followed by a BlizzCon second place finish. Now shortly after hinting that this would be his last year as a progamer, in Katowice 2019 he starts 0-3 in groups which is essentially a guaranteed him not advancing. He wins the next bo3 2-0 each, and because of how maps went with other series he goes through to the playoffs where he beats the best player in the world in a best of five (something that hasn't been done offline in a year btw) and wins goes on to win his first ever championship. This storyline has lasted for almost a decade.

I think it's emotional not only because we empathize for Soo...SC2 is intense and it wears you out. I've been around since pre brood war days. Never was very good but I have always loved the SC universe and it's definitely a part of me. So there is a lot of emotion deep down in there, and having soo win after all his efforts, it just feels great!

Anyone who's been watching Starcraft for >= 3 years teared up because soO just never stays down, never gives up, even though this game has taken everything from him and gave him ample reason to quit. He's the ultimate underdog. Knock him down 10 times and he'll get up 11 for reals. The devastation for him after each finals loss...I don't know how he managed but so friggin' happy that he did.

Well, if Soo was gonna beat Serral of all players, he might as well have won the whole tournament. Blizzcon 2018 was Serral's time and IEM Katowice 2019 was Soo's time. And a pretty good map to do it on too. A finale in the void.

I believe SC is the longest e-sport discipline. That should mean something. And from my own prospective it is the only one watchable. I tried Hots, mortal combat, overwatch, CS, not really entertaining..

A great game by both. Amazing for Soo after so many years. Neither player changed it up tho. Zerg never went muta, corruptor, broods etc.... Protoss never made it to mass phoenix, colossus or airtoss. Straight up bulldog your way into wins in every round. Congrats Soo. Legend.
