Someone just gave me a SWM-48 that was not in running order. It doesn't appear to be seized and I don't see any blown cylinders (it's still sitting in my F150). I'm trying to figure out where to even start ... I have a DR Field mower that I replaced the engine on, but I can't seem to get the wiring right to keep it running so it's sitting in my garage while I decide on the next steps for that one. So right now, the decision I need to make is which one to work on first. I've downloaded the SCAG manual and I'm looking through that first since I don't even know how to see if it should run (an older lady gave it to me and said her (presumably) teenage son had said the motor was bad ... no, I don't want to just trust that so I'm going to do a little troubleshooting first. If anyone has a troubleshooting flow chart for a SCAG SWM, please post it or send me a copy!
Oh, and I should have added that I coincidentally was given a Husq riding lawnmower with a 26 HP Kohler motor (the mower had a bad transmission and was stupidly expensive to get fixed according to my father-in-law and, since he knows I'll try to fix anything, it's another thing in my garage ... practically killed myself getting it off my truck because he hadn't mentioned that he'd disconnected the brakes!
Pull the recoil starter off of the engine and see if you can roll the engine over with a wrench. I had that happen before and the starter was rubbing the engine cowling.
