Once again - thanks for the head's up. I'd never...NEVER...heard of these paints. After watching your review just now I went to my friendly Amazon site and low and behold there they are - and what a seemingly amazing range they have. I'm afraid I'll have to invest in a few to check them out. Thanks again!

Great info Luke. I bought both sets of these paints earlier this year. (Fantasy and games and scalecolor ranges) They have made me a different painter if not actually better. They are two additional weapons in a painter's arsenal as each range is slightly different. I also have army painter's complete range ( slightly different again) and Secret Weapon's three sets. All are good at some things but not others. Some are great layering paints and some make the best glazes. l'm still experimenting but l hardly ever touch my citadel range anymore. If you only use citadel paint at the moment, any of these paint ranges will change your game. Citadel paints are quite difficult to use to get good results l find and IMHO very expensive for the quality. Citadel's washes and technical stuff are great however and shouldn't be overlooked.

Good to hear and see some of the paints used a little. Wanted to get back into some model painting whilst I'm out abroad in China for a few years, so need to pick things up from scratch (paints, tools, everything), and Scale 75 kept appearing a fair bit when searching on the online retailers here. Was teetering, and now feel more confident picking some up and going with them, instead of the usual ones I've gone for in the past.

I'd heard so many good things about these paints for a good couple of years and christmas just passed my other half bought me the full set. Gotta say, I love them. It's not just the matte finish, the pigment strength and the way they "feel" when you're using them. It's hard to describe really, but they are really good paints. Have I completely switched? No. I still have use for some of may citadel paints/shades. There's a few Vallejo I still love to use. But Scale75 are nice, I wouldn't be unhappy if they were the only paints I had access to.

@ArynCrinn
@ArynCrinn 5 лет назад
@Leo Nidas Sometimes I feel like people confuse "Vallejo Metal Color" with "metal colours in the different Vallejo ranges." Not sure if this is the case here... but it's a common thing I've seen around the internet. I will say though that the Scalecolor Gold and Copper sets do help fill the gap that the single gold and copper tones in the Metal Color range leave. I should probably try and use some ink with the Metal Color to get some more tones.

A few months ago i was lucky to win a pack of 88 bottles of scale75 paint and a bunch of figures. I recently made the 75mm us marshal and painted it with their paint. The skin set is wonderfull much more forgiving then the skin set from ak-interactive. The ink sets from them work great to enhance the colors and the metal alchemy is sure something to try. Glad you have done this on Scale 75. I feel like i'm on the same level as you Luke and these "pro" painters have been doing S75 an injustice- almost like this is their pancea to greatness and no one else shall achieve their results- rubbish! hands down these are the finest paints I have used in 30 thirty years and their Metallics are second to none. not a big company from Spain, but they have the honesty to make paint with proper pigment levels. Buy a set of inks and you will never need to buy anything else because again the pigmentation is off the scale and always need thinning. Only really backing up all the other comments, but Im glad you have found these amazing paints. Great job and keep up the good work.

Hi Luke, I'm no gamer but stumbled across your site on here when searching for tecnics , I build 1/35 scale armour WW2 mainly the Eastern Front, so why look at your site. Well it's done with skill and most importantly fun, we all like to aim for the best but having fun while we do it is important. Interesting points on the paints, I use both ab and brush working with Vallejo Colour and Air. When brush painting use a wet pallet. The description of the paints you showed makes me think the pigment could well be in a liquid form, a very fine ground dry pigment first then added with a gel carrier. The shot of the blue, wow , seeing the variations as you brushed has me seriously considering trying them out. At 71 I need to try as many modelling ideas as possible. Keep up the good work . 👍 Thanks

Maybe you have already seen some of Luke's video on scenery- ideal for dioramas. Like you I am a 1/35 scale armour (guess you a Brit like me cause of armour spelling), but I am only a youngster at 58 ;) Do you watch Andy's Hobby Headquarters video channel- 1/35 armour mainly.

The metallics have the most incredibly fine flakes, and they work excellently with an airbrush, without thinning.
@michaeladams1557
@michaeladams1557 5 лет назад
I've had the exact opposite experience. Tried airbrushing Dwarf Gold straight through the brush with a 0.5 needle and even at 30 PSI I couldn't get anything to flow through. Completely plugged my brush. That's after shaking on a mechanical shaker for a good 30 seconds. Likewise, brushing on the same gold, it took me four coats to get a good solid base coat over a black primer. Yeah, they have fine grain, but the coverage is crap, and it feels like it wants to lift off the previous coats if you don't wait a good 10-15 minutes between coats.
@avantasiaftw
@avantasiaftw 5 лет назад
@@michaeladams1557 Sounds like you didnt thin the paint, I use a 0.4 needle and have had no problems whatsoever but I dont use thinners, only water and flow improver, maybe your thinner is the culprit? Also most golds have an issue going over black, especially the bright colours.
@michaeladams1557
@michaeladams1557 5 лет назад
@@avantasiaftw You are correct I didn't thin it. You'll notice that duckster313 claimed they worked excellently, without thinning. I was just pointing out that, in my experience, that wasn't a correct statement. Once upon a time the expectation was that if you were going to paint metallics, you needed to prime black for best results. Now I'm using these on a 1/8 scale figure so I'm covering a LOT more area than usual. I suspect on a standard 28-32mm I wouldn't have the same coverage issues.
@avantasiaftw
@avantasiaftw 5 лет назад
@@michaeladams1557 Oh right, yeah there is no chance they are going through an airbrush without thinning. There are a couple of ways to help with painting gold on a black primer, a coat of brown can help a lot, or painting a silver first or maybe building up from a darker gold colour.

whoever said "they're very transparent" meant "they're amazing for glazing because they separate well from the medium and take to thinning really really well, unlike most brands of paint that rely on larger chunks of pigment size within their paints" - S75; also has 2 "things" youll notice when you use them; 1; Some "reds" are better for base/layer colours 2; some "reds" are better for thinning down to glaze with. and that's one of the negatives of S75; however, if you are someone confident with experimenting and applying your paint/techniques; youll get a lot of reward with a little patience with S75s range.

I love my Scale75 and I no longer really use the GW paints any more. I did not find them hard to use at all. Easier and more consistent than Vallejo and Army Painter for me.

It's actually awesome how washes works on scale75. When You get to level, where You stop smashing whole piece into wash pot, and start to use it sparingly, it works AMAZING. Totally try nuln oil on some browns, You will be suprised, I guarantee ;)

I have the full set and agree with everyone here that the metalics are excellent. They act a little different than the usual ranges but they're the only paints I use now. The odd citadel base paints still have there place.

Kneecapper Hello, normally im using Vallejo, recently i tried AK Real Color. They go true the airbrush very smothly, but you can not mix this with other paints. Also you should use their thinner. For Priming okay. On the other Hand, scale needed a lot of thinning. Only tried the skin color so far, but mixed in some Vallejo flow improver and thinner. Maybe its possibel by just using half water, half thinner

They're a smash hit at my local FLGS. One of the store painters switched up his entire range to scale color, and that guy's been painting minis for 20+ years, hes head over heels for em. I bought the blood and fire color set and haven't had a chance to try em out yet, only because I really haven't had time, I'm trying to work through a backlog before I give them a proper run myself. I've been told they really don't do as well dry brushing as with other paints, but other than what you mentioned, that's about it.

I'm new to the hobby. I have painted about 20 mini's and then found out im using all the wrong starting techniques and the wrong paints... oh well... Now Im thinking of getting good paint. Either Vallejo or Scale75. The one thing that gives me doubt about scale75 is I found lots of videos people saying its bad for basecoating. What do you think about that?

you can buy direct from their online store scale75.com/en/41-paint-sets a complete set according to the currency converter I use currently says their big full set is around £145 odd but with currency fluctuations that could change over night, you might find them a bit cheaper than UK US because of the tax etc they dump on top
