Scale FPV sunset flight in Avios Spitfire looking through world's smallest reflector gun sight (US Navy Mk 8 style) with head-tracking DJI Goggles RE. Brief aerial encounter with a much slower/lighter/tighter turning Parkzone Corsair - unable to dogfight against.

Very nicely done! Beautiful filming and great flying too - lovely big vertical roll and loop. Do you think FPV makes you perform larger more scale maneuvers, or is that just you? I find a lot of beautiful 1/4 scale warbirds are flown in a too hectic a manner and it ruins the illusion - but your Spit looked spot on!

Thank you for the compliments! I do think flying FPV make one a more realistic flyer to the spectators. First thing I noticed transitioning into FPV flying a plane previously flown with LOS was how extreme the control rates seemed in the goggles. And when I made the first turn flying FPV, I was almost at the edge of our flying field, it was so wide. So for sure flying FPV naturally makes one a more smoothly flying pilot. I might add, I am also a rated private pilot so that experience has some influence as well.

@@motionsic Thanks for the reply - very interesting. I have the smaller brother - the Durafly Spit and I have plenty of expo and fly it very gently - trying to emulate what you see at a full size airshow - anything else is a bit of a waste of time for me. I guess being a private pilot helps too mind!

Your camera's shutter speed is stunning but how about this second reticle image on the wind shield ??

jjdavidian The LED light was too bright for that flight. Have since added diode so the light is auto dimming and not too bright anymore. @@motionsic Well, the reticle got my attention too, but since you linked the guy that makes it, I'm asking him directly on his channel about it, hahaha! What's the ghost image though? Is it a reflection on the plastic of the cockpit, or is it a reflection on the FPV lense? That's a little bit annoying sadly.

Airguardian It’s secondary reflection on the polycarbonate wind screen, will try to correct it.

Fat Daddy Fly Boy it’s the one that come with the DJI Goggles RE combo pack. Not particularly good at handling low light and long distance details are lacking. No other choice to pair with the goggles...

Warbird FPV aircombat sport. 1/5 scale. 50 - 60cc engines. 2vs2 or 4 vs4. Dragonlink 433Mhz with Windbox RC. Tim79de Collimated gunsight with functional cockpit instruments. LED machine guns. Smoke dispenser for kill indication. Thats my 2 cents for the tournament standard.

Very interesting concept. 2 vs 2 or 4 vs 4 would add a lot of interest. But we need to figure out a workable system for 1 vs 1 first. I like the 1/5 scale idea as smaller scale would require reaction times not humanly possible. Smoke dispenser for kill indication would be a crowd pleaser for sure. We need a good laser tag system to activate it. Do you know of any off the shelf system that can be implemented?

@@motionsic IR tag is still experimental due to its limitation in daylight. But i reckon we can link the fpv view to a TV and an official will decide if its a hit. The official will activate the smoke dispenser linked to the plane. It's what Air Combat USA does during its dogfight sessions.

Rashidy Zulkifli You are right! I have a friend that flies for Air Combat USA and indeed it’s the instructor pilots that activate the smoke. So for a sanctioned event, this is definitely doable. I was thinking, if there are solutions in informal, grass roots level that just two or three friends can enjoy dog fighting fun?

@@motionsic More and more cars have a small front radar nowadays with decent range. Maybe in the future, these parts will be affordable from junkyards. But I don't know if these systems are too bulky/ heavy. Who's the first to install a working radar system in his plane...?
