I wanted to get back into model railroading as a project with my son, then i realized how expensive things are now lol. I'll stick with the trains i inherited as a kid back in the late 80's-early 90's
About the UP colors, they are in different yellows but if one is a pale yellow, it could likely be worn out. A brighter yellow is probably a repanted unit. Like EX-CNW. Mostly old DASH-9's have a pale yellow.
Here’s one of my ideas: Use all of your locomotives. Put your UP locomotives in the front, put the BNSF D-9 in the middle, and put the CSX and the NS at the back. It looks great. Tier 4 Gevos are my second favorite. ES44C4s are my favorite.
When I used to live next to a UP line I saw more of the scale trains faded yellow. Obviously from sitting in the sun all day everyday. Of course I'd see the rare bright painted one. Now I live near a BNSF line in Texas not far from the UP line
I believe the color accuracy of the ET44AC’s are correct, the repainted SD70’s are darker since they’re repainted. The acquired C44-9w’s from SP have the same color as the SD70.
Both have the same amount of accuracy I don’t really see Union Pacific trains often but I never see the ones with the flag it’s mostly just the words Union Pacific I think the did the different shades of yellow to represent age because pain color fades over time plus your newer shade has a higher number which also means it’s newer than the other if you were to compare
I can say this about the colors. Today I saw a UP consist and 2 of the locos had a faded yellow compared to the other 3. Could be down to weathering as the red numbers were also faded compared to the newer locos.
I work at a rail yard and there was a consist of 3 C45AH’s 1 was faded and the others were brand new fresh from the factory, so yes the color matters so much on a day to day basis
I see UP locomotives all the time where I live and I don’t see any locomotives with the Athern paint scheme, the locomotives I see have the scale trains paint scheme
It's weird not hearing sound coming from scale train engines. I would be cool if you did ones of the CSX Special (like spirit of first responders) engine reviews with sound.
Actually, they do. But the thing is, since Crafty is using Kato tracks, model train brands like Bachmann, Atherns, ScaleTrains, Hornby, etc; aren't supported to make sounds. Hope this understands why.
