I have shopped once from both Vestiare and RealReal. Never again. Both items were in much worse condition than expected - the pics were deceiving, and the descriptions didn't reflect reality. Love Japanese resellers who are usually scrupulously honest and highlight any flaws so you never have to feel disappointed or scammed.
Fashionphile is amazing for buying, not so sure about selling to them though. They offered me $1200 for my Louis Vuitton Palm Springs Mini backpack. Rebag offered $1645 and Yoogi’s Closet offered $1610. The real real didn’t have a buyout price for me, only offered a commission price option which I didn’t really like.
Thanks for covering this topic, not many do. I’ve never had to resell a designer piece but I have never - and could never - buy from these resellers. All I hear are the horror stories. Selling fakes, throwing expensive things around, lack of care in general, not understanding or knowing what they’re selling or even caring...ugh. I’ve used Ann’s Fabulous Finds. No issues.

Also, I can see why people would go to a reliable source to pick up a coveted Hermes bag if they don't have the desire to build a profile and spend money on other products by the house. The Real Real I avoid now,sent them an expensive watch,they broke the stem,and returned it to me,it took four months,and alot of my$$,to an expert watchmaker to fix it.They were good many,many years ago,not now.I am extremely careful what I buy from them,my last handbag purchase from them,was new with tags,and dustbag.Yoggis is in my opinion the best.I live outside of Seattle,where they are based.Bought and sold from them,no issues.
I enjoyed the video. I have had experience with both The RealReal and Fashionphile. We sold an Italian brand home item for a nice amount of money. It had been stored in the basement, inside of the original packaging, for over 30 years. We used the item for 5 years, in our first apartment. We probably would have thrown in out, but I told my husband to look into consigning with The Realreal. It sold for over $1,800.00. Now my husband is reluctant to throw out ANYTHING in the basement! I sold an Hermes 140cm cashmere/silk shawl to Fashionphile. It was practically new, but I just didn't like it. I accepted much less than I had hoped to be offered. Oh well. I have also given up the past practice of selling on eBay. It is too troublesome. So, now convenience is my priority over price.

I can't remember which one I used but I sent my LV bag to them which they listed for around $800 but the person who bought it used a "new customer" coupon and they wound up taking that discount from me so overall in think I got closer to 300$. And you don't have the option to refuse or ask for you things bag. I would never ever do that again. I would think if the company offered a discount they would eat that cost not me because I didn't offer that , I'd rather take my bag back because now it's worth even more. but you live and learn. Terrible business practice.
Fashionphile and Yoogis closet are my top ones to sell, always buyout. For consigment I have used Vestiarie Collective on multiple occasions and the item stays with me until its bought.
I agree with all of your assessments. Fashionphile offered me 25% more for my Dior saddle bag than Rebag. You are not imagining Real Real not asking you if you want to accept it. They just assume that you want to sell it at whatever price they think what it's worth and very quickly put things on sale. Fashionphile is my favorite as well, great customer service. You can shop at the Fashionphile warehouse in Carlsbad, CA. I hear they give you an iPad and they can bring items out to show you. Not sure if they're still doing it due to Covid but it sounds like an amazingly fun experience. Fashionphile also does free shipping and free returns which I find valuable. Also Fashionphile has buyback. I think within 6 months you can get guaranteed 70% back in cast (not store credit like Rebag).
I brought 4 handbags to Fashionphile's Manhattan site. I was not thrilled with the purchase prices they offered but they have to make money too. My main concern is purchasing a fake from a pre loved site. The people that inspect the bags are only human. They can make mistakes. That is why I only buy new at boutiques but I'm tired of paying crazy money so I would like to buy a few pre loved pieces but I'm very nervous about it.
Real Real sold me a fake LV Neverfull. It was obviously fake on gross inspection. The details were made cheap vinyl with thick jagged stitches. It was no refund policy and I spoke to one of their managers. I should have asked for an apology letter since they wouldn’t refund me . I will never buy from them again and I don’t recommend anybody to consign their precious Hermès and Chanel bags with them.
I always use vestiare collective, it isnt the most fast way, but I like that i just have to sent out the item when its sold. And that i can choose what price i will sell it for!

I think the real real is managed by someone who is stuck in the past. I don't even bother to visit them online because their website is outdated, and pictures of items are far look taken by a phone.
I have both shopped and sold items through Fashionphile and the RealReal. I like the Fashionphine showroom because you can compare and contrast many different bags from different brands and decide which ones you prefer. This is how I ended up buying a Chanel Jumbo beige clair from them when I originally came in to see the Dior Diorama in beige (the color I could no longer get in stores because Dior discontinued that bag in that color). I was not even in the market for a Chanel bag, but love it now. I like the RealReal for apparel and home goods. I sold apparel and shoes through the RealReal and my items ended up on sale as well.
I used The Real Real and had a different experience than you did. The woman who came out to my house told me exactly how much I would receive for my item..otherwise I wouldn't have used them.
Great video! I’m always a bit nervous to watch videos like this since some people aren’t as objective as you! I’ve shopped from both fashionphile and the real real but never consigned/sold anything. I think fashionphile had better item descriptions and photos but the limited selection is a bummer for me. Everything I’ve ever purchased from the real real has been as described and even when there weren’t many pictures I don’t think they hid anything from me. I’ve gotten some particularly great deals from the real real on items that seemed to sit for a while and then went on sale. It seems like they favor the buyer over the seller in that aspect.

I agree, Fashionphile definitely has more limited stock as I find they're a little more picky with what they take on..I guess they have to be because they need to pay upfront for most items. I've notice that Chanel handbags (CF) on luxury retail sights are slowly climbing up in price. For example a 2017 selling for 2020 prices. About 5 years ago, many Chanel loyalists where upset with price increases and switched over to Hermes due to price and quality. Hearing rumors of another price increase, I am seriously considering Hermes, but the caveat is I have to build relationship with SA, and spend several thousands before being offered a bag. I am learning from your videos. I will say I am still anti-B/K and slowly coming around. I am one of the few that likes their leather/fine jewelry, shoes, housewares and I even saw a horse saddle. I was so awestruck of the craftsmanship. I am curious of your thoughts on Chanel compared to Hermes.
I've been hearing a lot about Chanel increasing their pricing on a regular basis, even a couple times a year but I have to be honest with you, Hermes has been doing the same 🤦🏻♂️ They had a big price increase last year, prices rose between 3-7% across the board and earlier this year, they had another price adjustment. If you'd buy their products anyway because you feel they suit your style, I'd recommend slowly starting a relationship with the brand and if they see that you're a serious customer, you'll probably get an offer sooner than you'd think 🍊I love Chanel RTW and have actually been on a real kick recently, so I actually have a video coming up on the brand tomorrow 🤫 but I would never spend more than $2-$3k on a bag from them 🤷🏻♂️

I have purchased with rebag however their quote system is not my favorite, they basically quote a handbag WITHOUT seeing the bag & so they quote based on just the category, this doesn't make sense at all! That was also my experience, which would be fine if they were a company that sells everything below retail so they need to pay sellers accordingly. But having a look at their website it does seem like their pricing is quite a bit above retail... 🤔
I just started following you (4/14/21). It’s so happened that I just sold 7 Chanel bags & 1 Prada bag to Fashionphile. I dropped them off at Neiman. Waiting for their review/authentication. So far experience has been ok.
Depending on the item, I demand that my item NOT be discounted for at least 30 days at TRR. I have also asked for my items be returned if they don’t sell within a certain time period. Vestiaire is a CS hot mess. I do still buy and sell through them, but with hesitation. I work with Fashionphile a ton for both buying and selling. I have noticed lately, though, their quotes have been lower than usual. I blame COVID. Overall, I trust Fashionphile more than any other high end reseller.

What are your thoughts on Grailed? I used it once to sell my Hermes Card holder, not a good idea haha. The buyer complained the wallet was used... as though I was selling it brand new/ pristine condition. It's always a gamble selling online since you have to describe the item so detailed in case the buyer change's their mind.
I'm honestly not a fan of most preloved marketplaces..at least not ones that don't offer authentication and review before the items get sent to the buyer. It's quite time consuming to deal with photographing, describing, shipping etc..I much rather make a little less money and hand over my items to a professional than deal with the headache of someone complaining about the quality. You could look into Vestiaire Collective, they take a larger commission but all items get sent through them so they can guarantee the authenticity and condition of all products 👏🏻
Great video and I agree with much of your feedback. I’ve consigned with Ann’s fabulous finds and The RealReal and had very good experiences with both. For high value items I would consign to Ann’s. TRR is great if you have a variety of brands and lower value pieces. I’ve also sold to Yoogi’s Closet and Rebag. Yoogis has consistently offered better buyouts in the past and offers you a $ range for the piece first, which they fix when you send the item to them. I always received top price in the range for excellent condition items. Rebag has started to increase their offers and they beat Yoogis on several items recently. I have not tried Fashionfile. Maybe next time!😊
Yoogi's is great in terms of offers. Fashionphile since Neiman's partnered with them, has been low ball offers. i've experienced the same with rebag as well.
Literally I am with you 100%. I’ve tried all these channels and have stuck to fashionphile for years. If consignment is something that you may wanna consider in the future, give Anna fab finds a try! They are super sweet and takes very good care of the items in their possession 😃
I have a funny story for you. I purchased what was told to me was an crocodile bag. There were even restrictions on states it could be shipped to. Upon arrival I immediately looked inside and the clearly visible label said 100% cow leather!!! I think there authentication process was very poor!!!! Needless to say I returned it and got a full refund.!! I thought you'd like my story.lol.
