It's an elderly thing. My grandma was in an assisted living facility before she passed and she was my responsibility to care for (which I enjoyed because they took care of me when I was a kid) and you could tell the age of the person by the thermostat lol. It was a joke with the people running the facility as well. It was in Texas, mid summer was brutal in that place. I am close to a heat stroke and they have a damn light sweater on, ridiculous

My grandpa won't turn the AC on. His house feels like a hot car and everyone hates it. He only turns it on if he's doing something or when he's feeling hot and it's weird because we'll be dying all day and then he turns it on at night.

Also, a large amount of money in a bank would also ensure that you have a representative to consult in that organization. My bank wants to keep me happy so I continue to keep my funds with them and I have a representative and backup in case one is not available. I don't live in the same area as my bank. If I lived or worked in another country, it would be even more important to have access to my money SAFELY all the time. It should take only a phone call or encrypted email situation with password to get access to money.

I think the same thing about a lot of these situations. Some hotshot doing multimillion international contracting deals who doesn't have a lawyer, an accountant, a secretary, a business partner, or any friends or family to rely on. The only one who can help is you, the new love interest they've never met for a dinner date.

yes! My dad is well up in to his nineties. He doesn't know how to use a computer. After falling for the "Help me, Grandpa!" phone scam, someone is always with him, round the clock. We still have to remind him constantly not to answer the phone. He was always self-employed, so not answering the phone feels completely wrong to him. I'd estimate that 3 out of every 5 phone calls he gets are scammers.

I know lots of older men who were dating literally weeks after their wife had died, none of them cheated on their wives. They simply can’t be alone without female companionship. Internet dating is full of men who are taken advantage of by real women, simply because the men can’t live alone.

Grief makes people act in really strange ways and some people totally disconnect from their feelings in order to cope. It’s not common, but it’s not unheard of. Alan clearly was upset about not seeing his granddaughters and not going to the family wedding, so I think he is the type of person that doesn’t know how to open up emotionally to other people including himself.
