Beautiful boat! What a pleasure to watch her sail. You did fine work. I must say, I spent the first full minute grinning from ear to ear: I have a Peep Hen with Lazy jacks and Gaff and have the same struggle nearly every launch. If you find the secret, please let me know! Meanwhile, Enjoy!

Excellent wee boat. Enjoyed watching her first sail. May there be many more enjoyable days on the water with her. Cheers Trev. PS I sail a home made Outred Shearwater gaff rigged 12 footer in ACT, Australia.

I laughed to myself, empathizing with the number of times the mast went up and down as you worked to get the rigging just right! Been there!

After living through it I put it on here for humor so I'm glad you enjoyed it

It's always a tangle on the first sail, great dry wee boat. Well done.

Great looking boat! It seems very stable for its size, especially with the amount of wind there appears to be in the video.

Oh yes it's good to watch the videos John Welsford talking about his designs it really comes through in the scamp

Scamps seem like the perfect boat for their size. I have a Compac 16, and I'd trade for a scamp in a second. Nice boat!

Looks like it moves along at a good pace. I want to build one of these

It took me 3 years I probably could have built it in one summer if I stuck at it

Do yourself a big favour - buy one complete. The old saying applies - fools build boats for wiser men to sail.

Did you build this one or is it a plastic one?
@survivingentropy

Yep I built it a few years ago. It took me, part time, three years to build. I recommend this kit highly

@@survivingentropy You did a great job on it, the fit and finish looks so good I couldn't tell for sure which it was.

I wonder why the mast set up is so complicated for such a small boat. I could put my windrider 16 mast in there and it would go so much easier.
@survivingentropy
@survivingentropy 2 года назад
I made it complicated by having everything attached and adjusted right trying to simplify setup. But caused a mess instead. This was for entertainment

@@survivingentropy I sail a 12 ft balanced lug dinghy. Over 4 seasons and 70+ launches I have tried many "simplifications" which have made things more complicated. My best solution at the moment is to step the mast, then attach the foot of the sail to the boom and thread the reefing lines, then attach the halyard and hoist the sail. I have not yet tried lazy jacks because I can imagine them causing as many new problems as they solve. I love your boat, by the way. Characterful and practical.
