I was the lead programmer on Broodwar. It was a tremendous opportunity and the game turned out fantastic. One of the few games I worked on that I still love and play weekly to this day. Glad to see others love it as well, and the game is still popular. Its one of the best all time ever games IMO

I feel like scan's tier list is "how good is the unit at doing its job" rather than "how often is the unit used"

So Artosis' logic I could kind of follow and suggest slight modifications to. Scan's logic seems to be a tier list based partially on Fastest Map? Cause like sure, fastest map 3v3 Devourer + Valkyrie + Dark Archon is a great comp!

Honestly for the logic I think he is using I kinda understand where most things are placed. The exception is science vessels, flying spellcaster detector with 3 useful spells that is used in every matchup is not C rank lmfao.

felt like there is literally no metric at all on how he decided to rank things

Science vessel has 3 god spells and its a flying spell caster should be SSSSSSSS++++ its also useful in every match up iraddiate owns in TvZ emp Owns in TvP and defence matrix helps a lot in TvT when busting tank lines

Kind of goes to show how balanced SC is, save from a few units like the infestor and scout, there's pretty much no useless unit, while all 3 races have a lot of good and great units for each role.

I love how they completely forget to mention that SCVs can repair every building and every unit they act like its just dog shit meanwhile without repair terran would auto loss every game vs range goons. SCVs are in fact the best worker in the game just for that fact

I don't know does Scan actually understand the logic of a tier list. You can't put like 90% of units to S or A rank. What is even the point of a tier list if you do that 😂

sc1 is pretty balanced every unit is pretty good and useful in most scenarios with exception of only air attacking units having a niche job. Also in Protoss if the game goes on, having 2 or 3 dark archons storing energy for feed backs on casters/ mind control on capital air units/ malestrom on a ball of zerg unit is insane. Thats the difference of a regular player and a player with the extra apm and mind clarity to prepare for extra advantages. there are many times just brute force does win you the game, like Best as protoss. But extra magic units and utlizing them are important as well. Also drones tend to mine minerals faster on certain starting positions namely the rightside mineral starting positions. lurkers with swarm halts any terran pushes until the swarm ends (which it never will with consuming zerglings) or vessel irradiate kills it. Which you force your opponent to research and tech to tier 3 for vessels. its not about just the unit value its what you force your opponent to produce and react. in TvZ, a single BC can halt an entire expansion, and 2 or 3 decides the game. scourge = 50/25 for 2 that both of them can kill dropships. sairs, and mutas. and firebats counter dark swarm pretty well so. Think western audience and players have different perception of units and strats vs koreans. also looking at scans tier list, it looks like he prioritizies units that are essential to a match up and units that you aim not to loose since they are essential part of your army, and when they die its gg. exception of cheap zerlings units that are too good for their cost. also valks can shoot from their butt if you micro them correctly. So they can shoot and run like mutas can vs air.

Now that scan said Dark Archons is S I'm playing Protoss to make my own DA Meta!

Is there any competitive games that anyone knows of where infested Terrans are used? I would like to see them in action. In my head, they're an awesome unit that can one-shot everything, and can get dropped in mineral lines to the same success to that of a high templar drop. I've never seen them used though. I know I'm wrong - but I want to see a game where they are used!

you know, probe v drone v scv makes sense. probes can build infinite buildings and don't need to be near them so they're not vulnerable drones can build a single building but again, not vulnerable SCVs can build infinite buildings but can be destroyed at any time while building to completely halt production without ever shooting the building

This unit tier list should vary in different match-ups, for example, vulture should rank S+ in tvp, but lower in tvz; battlecruiser may rank A or S in tvz and tvt, but D or E in tvp.

Few comments: - Drone is far worse than SCV (and Probe) - if it builds anything it costs your economy the most, as it is lost, additionally you usually have less of them than other workers, so it's even worse. - Medic should be at least on par with Marines - but probably higher. Medic is what makes Marines good, without it they are trash, without any possibility to being repaired and die like flies. Medics allow also Stimpack abuse, when you stim Marines the moment you see any enemy flyer harassment - Medics made that stims free. - Wraith is no better than Corsair. Wraiths die like flies, cost like siege tank an they are barely ever used - only used because Terrans are forced to do so until they have BC+V or make drops. While Corsair deal splash, is very fast and in late game has Web. Also it can almost instantly heal with Shield Battery. In this ranking maybe Wraith should be D and Corsair C tier. - Ghost is not that bad. Problem is it requires separate Science Facility and add on than BC - but at the same time it can Lockdown a BC, Science vessel, Arbiter or Carrier. Or Terran/Protoss transport. Ghosts are good, but are useless against the Zerg with costly tech tree. Probably D tier should better.

Dark Archon is pretty good against Zerg. Mind Control is good against Lurkers and Ultras.

Based on cost there is no better unit in the game than the Vulture and its really not even close. I would have it in S rank all by itself.

The one that surprised me is Corsair that low, the splash damage when hitting critical mass shreds anything that flies, including a bunch of devourers landing spores.

This exercise is all about the criteria used to rank everything. There is no way archon are as good as ultras except as a head-to-head comparison. Ultras are used in far more games at scale because they are more useful im general. Valkyries can't be S because they are a niche reaction situational unit that is too expensive to build at scale.
