Had 2 moving heads for the last 3 years, hardly used them, to big to carry around, plus like you say move all the way around the room, so decided to sell them and replace them for 4 Martin 812 Scanners :D Agree Compleatley! Great vid
I use both in my setup and I will have to say moving heads are better for me because they have more coverage which is needed for what I use them for, great video
I think it depends on the room and the way you are going to set them up. i.e. scanners look great on T bars or trussing rigs, but moving heads look great on the top of totems.I am using scanners because I can't "upgrade" to moving heads yet.My dream set up would be several totems with a moving head on each-DJ MM style! Moving heads are great if you can program them, but the pre-programs will go everywhere. Scanners are easier because the pre-programs will stay on the dance floor only. Great Vid!
if you are doing a really big show then have moving heads on the outer and some kind of led fixtures in between on a rig/truss. but small venues scanners,i have had scanners then moving heads sold those now looking at buying the 2 x adj 4 head 3 watt led units and ill have the chauvet cubix in the middle.
i use Moving heads most of the time i use the Robe colorspot 1200at i prefer moving heads as i find i can programme them to cover the whole area and avoid the back wall so i will be using moving heads for a lot more
moving heads are much more elegant and can sell them better with having totems etc. Using moving heads at spot lights for first dance and such is also much easier. I started with scanners, martin mx4 scanners indeed. But never going back to scanners :)
i use moving heads because i like to be different from the rest of the dj's in my area also people see them as professional pieces because they are always at consorts and most of the time as the front of the stage. you dont tend to see scanners at these events. i also plan to expand my business into stage hire etc so moving heads are more practical but thats just me
Most new moving heads have the option of limiting their movement when doing their automatic shows through menu settings. That being said, scanners are probably the better choice for mobile DJs -- they are cheaper, lighter and easier to mount.
Movers are great for professional shows. Scanners are faster but more suited to clubs. I would get probably 4 rogue R1 spots, 4 rogue R2 washes, 8 dartz 360s and 4 Rogue RH1 hybrids for my movers and 4 rush LED scanner 1s for my scanners.
I work at a church and I have 18 basic par cans 4 chauvet intimidator moving head knockoffs from China. 2 high end systems studio color. 2 high end systems studio spots. 3 high end systems studio beams. And 8 ADJ mighty scans that I pull out every now and then as well as the Antari HZ-400 hazer
Hi Mate if I can say I upgraded To Mountain Lion I have had no problems at all. My Mac is more responsive and wakes up from the lid being closed so much Quicker 2 Seconds instead of 10 to 15 Seconds doesn't sound like a lot but it immersed me. Also it maybe my imagination but the battery seems to last longer or is it just a more accurate at assessing the time left hope this help's Respect.
