Thank you for this video. I could not scan b&w negatives from our daughter's 1990 wedding by reading the Epson manual. Now, thanks to you (put it on Professional) we have a nice surprise, collage for her and son'law's 30th wedding anniversary. Amen.
The reason behind blue-ish tint is simple: when you disable the auto-exposure setting the scanner software just inverts the image it captured from film, without any corrections. Film has quite strong brown tint to it, which is obvious during the process of generating previews. So when software inverts the image-- you get blue instead of brown.
Of course, the information is still there (because tiff), so you can get the same (or better) results if you leave the auto setting off and then color-correct yourself after the fact in Lightroom. What you can also do is you can take a picture of color correction card for every film you use and then create individual presets in Lightroom.

I recently found some of my very old 35mm negatives from a trip hubby and I did in 1978 and have been scanning madly since watching your tutorial. Thank you! I just got a bunch of film back but didn't want to pay the extra $8+ per roll for a scans so I was trying to do it myself at home. Obviously now I see their scanner is going to be so much better than what I'm working with but thanks to you I can actually get a decent result!

I followed your instructions to the letter with my slides. Fail! After more searching I found another video that said to use 'positive film'. Success. That worked for me. I am not sure how you got the results you did by using colour negative. Using the home mode was much quicker and just as good for me. I tried both but found home mode very simple.

And I also suppose that the software program that you use can be downloaded from Epson's homepage. My mother, deceased, left a lot of slides. Have lot of work to do, but this video makes it possible. Someone can help me? I have bought an epson v370 today, i try to install the epson scanner software opening "install navi" on the cd, but it says that Epson have to update the application. Now, i'm not a professional photographer and I don't want to pay for a Vuescan or something like that. What can i do? Is there any update download from epson site? I do not see any on their site. at 1.00 you say that the back side of the film needs to be facing upwards. Which side is the back? To make it clear,,, when the holder is in place on the scanner bed waiting only for the top to be closed,, would we see the shiny side of the film or the dull side facing up?
Like for the video. Tell me if anyone knows what is the reason for the error "The image size is too large. Specify a smaller resolution or scale, or the size of the selected area up to 10500x30000 pixels"

Hi Nathan,my self from India, Recently purchase Epson V370 scanner. I have 35 mm slides of Himalayas, like to scan. I am getting magenta tone in slide.Can you guide what specification we have to keep to scan slide. Like, Image Type and resolution.

I have a question though, cause i am scanning my black and white negatives but I noticed that the contrast is really high in the preview and I don't like. I also notice that the unsharp mask is stuck to medium, as in if I select low it automatically changes back...Do you have any suggestions on what I could try? Thanks a lot!!!
Hi Nathan sorry another question. I have quite a few 126 film negatives and I know the negative holder supplied with the scanner doesn’t take them but do you think would it possible to fabricate a thin cardboard “jig” to allow them to fit inside the supplied frame or not?

I have a ton of slides and negatives from cleaning out my Mother’s house...I had no idea my Epson could scan these. Thank you so much! One question...I do not have Lightroom or Photoshop...is there anything online that is easy to learn for photo editing that you could suggest? Thanks again
For some strange reason only one image is being saved. I make sure I have all of them highlighted. In the preview before I save at the end, I see the 5 or 6 frames I'm scanning. Then, I go to the folder and it's only the first frame? I'm confused. I'm quite tech savvy for this is mind-boggling. EDIT: My bad. Was scanning at multi-tiff. Thanks
Thanks for this video, I was wondering if it is possible to scan the full strip of 6 images as one image without the auto 35mm cropping? I am doing double exposure panoramas and want to scan the entire strip as one. Many thanks if you can help, Sam.
My scans are coming out not in focus. I’m wondering how this could be adjusted? I’m sure my negatives are focused as I have done them on another scanner before and everything was ok. Anyway to help fix this?
There isn’t anyway of focusing these scanners. Sometimes you can raise up the negative holder using very thin wedges which sometimes can help if the negative is warped. I use a credit card under each corner
Probably a late answer, but here it goes: Yes, it can. But there's no holder for 110 films. However, the old film strips from my family album, there are pieces of paper taped to the film and I'm able to fit it in the 35mm holder.
