I been wanting to buy a film negative scanner for many years but could never convince myself that it was worth the cost. I recently discovered the Kodak Scanza film scanner and did some research...the reviews were generally positive so I decided to spend the $159 dollars at B&H Photo and get one. I will say right up front that it has far exceeded my expectations and I am having a great time digitizing my vast collection of film negatives. I've re-discovered images that I haven't seen for over 30 years. I completely recommend this product to anyone desiring to digitize film negatives...while not perfect, for the money it is hard to beat.

I've been completely satisfied with the Scanza...I process the better images in Photoshop or Lightroom and I'm amazed at how good the final images turn out. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Best regards.

Hi Kodak - I just left a question for Ol’ Buck about the scanner but why not go straight to the source. Here’s what asked: Does the Scanza have a carrier for 120/220 negatives (medium format)? I have a ton of 35mm and medium format and I’d like to buy just one scanner.

Nice job introducing the device. I am guessing you are a picky consumer of these products, given your professional training in photography back when 'shoot 200 and print 2.' I learned to process black and white 35mm prints when I was in the US Army in Vietnam. The morale boosters, aka Special Services, had a photo lab and one of my buddies showed me how to do it. My Christmas card home 1969 I chemically made the negative, shot the prints and stuck them on card stock to mail back to the US. Hope your Army time gave you more benefits than it took away ... Thank you for serving, contributing whatever you did to keep whoever it was from coming after whatever they wanted to come after. ;-)

This is great for sharing your pictures and as a backup but KEEP THE NEGITIVES! The negatives will out last any digital image. And 50+ years from now there will be better cheaper film scanners you can use to scan them again.

I don't plan on getting rid of my negatives...I was sad though that some were starting to fade and some of the colors are blanching.

I think the biggest negatives it will scan are 35mm and 126...I'm not familiar with medium format film so I don't know how they compare.

Great video, thanks! We have a notebook of negative pages just like yours. How long would you say it takes to digitize one strip of 4 frames?
@olebuckranch2782
@olebuckranch2782 3 года назад
Probably less than a minute. One thing I learned though is short strips of 4 frames or less are not as easy to get through the negative carrier as larger strip...not a huge deal though. Thanks for watching.

@@olebuckranch2782 I picked up a Scanza in like new condition for $85 on FB Marketplace. Been playing with it. Its pretty good. One thing I dislike is that it gives all photos a file date of 6/1/2017 with no option to change it.

Hi, Thanks for the explanations, very useful. Could you tell me if you have used this scanner with 126 & 110 formats? If so, could you also tell me if the supports for these 2 formats are as practical as for the 24x36 ? Thanks.

Are you able to scan an individual 35mm negative or only strips of negatives? I do have some 35mm negatives that have been cut into individual negatives.
@olebuckranch2782
@olebuckranch2782 4 года назад
This scanner will allow individual negatives...it is easier if you have strips but individual negatives should not be a problem.

What is really unfortunate about this scanner is that it only saves in 8 bit jpegs. No dynamic range like a raw file.
