The main piece of wood from your mum's garden looks amazing. Any Catfish would have a fun life living in that cave!

A bit of a suggestion , add more and more rocks . Coz usually river or stream biotopes seem to be incomplete without rocks of different sizes . Fill it with a lot of rocks . Second suggestion , never ever clean the wood fully , coz biotope looks amazing with some tannins . Just boil it for sometime and soak it a bit . That's it , the harmful bacteria would be killed and the suspended tannin particles would later be cleaned by the filter . Add some dry almond leaves or oak leaves , which would reduce the pH and also the ammonium content . Great job , keep it up !!

Thank you :) yes rocks are always in river beds, honey guramis life in slow or stagnant water often muddy and rocks and such are free from mud in fast rivers beds. The wood was to big to boil sadly, and the water was always dark as tee after a week :D Thank you for the kind words :)

Beautiful driftwood. Are you concerned what type of wood it is? Around me most of the wood is evergreen and I would be afraid to use it.

I had several pieces, some where conifers some not, conifers are not suitable because of the stuff that comes out. But the rest, when it's well dried is ok :) Yes some awesome I got there :)

The reason the water is brown is the wood is releasing tannins into the water and it's actually good
@GrowingInterest

What type/brand of Black Gravel do you use? The setup looks awesome 👏
@GrowingInterest
@GrowingInterest 4 года назад
It's regular hardware store slate gravel. After sifting I had the gravel size I want :D It's comparable with quartz gravel with 0,5-2mm gravel size when you buy it as aquarium gravel
