@@bsodmike Glykon was made before all of those features came out, altough the Glykon is already easier to actuate than the older models. (Maybe it's kind of a precursor to the newest drive train)
He went gentle on them. My guess is like the troodon the new changes make it more likely to break during hard use. The ultratech and troodon old tests were much rougher with the nail test.
I don’t have $8,000 worth of Microtechs but close - 17 of the newer models and everyone has been absolutely perfect. I undoubtedly will come across one with an issue - I have found issues with every knife maker but Microtech has been listening to customers, adding new and improved features and materials - IMO more than any knife maker I know of. Appreciate what you do and that’s why you have my support! Great work guys!
I want to buy my first. I’m torn between the scarab and the combat troodon. Can you recommend one I’m looking for something strong that will last forever
@@mufflager9065They’re both good knives, and are similar in size with the exception being that the Scarab is a bit thicker of a chassis. While I don’t think either would last forever, there are of course moving parts and springs to maintain and will eventually break, both should last you a very long time and with maintenance they should give you many, many years of trouble free operation. The Scarab feels more robust, but you do pay for that with a thicker knife overall. The Combat Troodon is a big, good, solid knife that almost completely disappears in a pocket. Of the big Microtechs, the combat is my favorite, and you can find a blade shape and profile for whatever you’re looking for. Oddly, the CTs can be more expensive than the Scarabs, though, so if budget is tight… I’d almost lean Scarab S/E or D/E-S. The dual single sided DES is kind of amazing, even if you do loose the ability to put your thumb on the spine for careful edge work. Having basically a drop point and a wharncliffe in one blade is pretty awesome. Basically, you can’t go wrong with either if you’re looking for an OTF that will be up to hard work as long as you’re willing to do a little routine maintenance.
Absolutely unbelievable quality and innovation. You guys completely sold me. I was a fixed blade guy since forever. You convinced me to buy my first Microtech.
A torture test of the Scarab RIGHT after I put my new Scarab underwater just to test it out... (Yes it did work perfectly underwater I was just curious)
I owned almost every famous single brand of folding knives out there, fondled even a lot more as my friend owns a knife shop, and 2 brands stay with me till now, apart from all the custom knives, are Marfione and Rockstead. Never ever have any problem with their knives or their services. Truly amazing products!! 🙏🙏🙏
Or... maybe if you still fluted the spine of the blade like you used to, it probably would have fired underwater lol. Test everything, I would definitely watch it
I’m not surprised at how sharp the serrations are. I feel like my serrated knives are some of the sharpest I have, and I still vastly prefer a serrated blade over a plain edge. Glad to see some actual numbers to back up my “feels.”
Hello. Is there any chance to buy one of these knives (tested in the video) from you. My initials are the same, so it would be a great piece for the collection :). Thank you for your reply. Robert H.
I had the combat troodon fail after it was only carried. It was never used to cut anything. My ultratech and makora also constantly go off track. These are cute for collecting but i use the socom elite when i need a reliable everyday carry knife.
Can you explain to me why i keep seeing videos, comments, and reddit posts about microtech quality control going down hill the last few years? Why are newer microtechs not made nearly as well as older ones? Even more concerning is when people contact microtech about qc issues you blow them off and say contact the store they bought it from. It doesnt seem you stand behind your product. I always wanted a microtech but after all I've read and seen I'm starting to think twice.
Guys I love the brand and I love my Microtechs (I have a Scarab 2 proof run) so please don't take this as being a hater, but your serrations rip more than slice because the pattern you use is horrible. I've done extensive research and testing on serrations and what makes them perform well and the pattern they're ground in makes all the difference in the world, and the only other company that makes them worse than Microtech is Cold Steel. You have two size scallops in your pattern and the small size is far too small, and what ends up happening when you cut things is the points snag more than the scallops cut. I have serrated knives that can slice as cleanly as a straight razor. Another issue is that your blade grinds are thick AF, and then the serrations have to be ground in at an even steeper angle so the scallops themselves are door stops. These are the kinds of issues that make guys hate serrations but it doesn't have to be this way if you grind them with the right pattern and at a steeper angle.
100%agree. Its a shame Microtech and most of the big USA manufacturers dont give a s about this very important informations. Anyway thanks for all of your researfh EvilD, youre a legend in the serrated knife lovers community 😅✌️
On Instagram, I wrote that the Cypher II knife has a gap in the light. And also that Microtech has blades that are not symmetrical. It's true. Why, instead of saying that you would fix the flaws, did you block me? Unlock it! In the meantime, I'll write about it everywhere.
I've been having trouble with misfires on the Gen 3's when I retract them. The combat troodon specially. It misfires 1 out of every 4 times. The scarab only once in 3 weeks since Iboughtit. The cypher 2 about 1 out of every 6 times. Do I need to lube the track, or is it something else?
most likely you've got some pocket lint causing issues . unscrew the glass breaker and blast it out with compressed air, then rem oil, then air again. this is more effective than just spraying into the front opening, driving debris deeper into the handle. before you put your otf in your pocket, turn your pocket inside out and make sure there's no lint.
What blows my mind is the fact that you are still selling those (discounted i get it ) but still...... not giving them away . Would that be such a big setback for Microtech ?
33:13. Is where you can see/hear that "Dual fuel drivetrain" system aint dialed in just yet or perfectly solid like they been saying. Listen/ watch when he takes the penny off after he cant cut through it then trys to check the blade and it moves either side to side or in and out the blade even makes a clicking sound confirming its not solid or isnt after that test. Almost but still aint a deadlock or solid if this is your best examples
They're literally releasing ultratechs in the next few weeks with their new 0 blade play mechanism at normal or close to normal ultratech pricing from what Ive read! Stoked! Bigger models like the Atreus theyve been teasing down the road I'd imagine
Every time someone complains about a misfire is one extra day he’s going to keep that terrible mustache. Please folks, have a heart. The children are scared and he can’t go within 100 yards of elementary schools. 😢
I'm a huge microtech supporter have 8k dollars in microtech and I've never been more dissapointed in my life, terrible quality would not fire all the way so I returned it. Major let down and I was extremely dissapointed. Stay away from theese gen 3 scarabs they are nightmares.
I have 4 of these gen 3 scarabs no issues at all, idk why people have a bad experience with 1 product 1 time and then say stuff like "STAY AWAY THESE ARE NIGHTMARES" You claim to have 8k in Microtechs but have one faulty one and are gonna scream stay away. Wierd.
@bloodkeel I said stay away from gen 3 scarabs not microtech. Secondly I don't claim yo have 8k in microtech I can prove it if you need me to. And here's a video to show your 4 scarabs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-47WacBDQAgc.htmlsi=VfNF9MSWCKM6CBRD
My brand new gen 3 has had endless failures to deploy and retract out of the box. I’ve never carried it because of the 0% reliability. I also have a new outbreak makora that is sub par. Especially compared to my dlc shadow makora which is like a MP5. That was disappointing being it’s such a cool design. The button was very rough and had no clean break, the sound was muffled, there wasn’t much of a snap. I did do the otf treatment on that outbreak makora but it showed no progress then it failed so I put it back in the box and that’s where it’s been ever since. Lastly my dlc scarab 2 gen 2 has been perfect but has recently developed a rattle in the handle, with everything else combined it concerns me so I put that knife away as well. I currently carry the cypher gen 3 and that has been flawless.
It still remains angular. Microtech designers should think about making it more streamlined and elegant. This is your only Front-knife with a polymer handle finish, the same as Socom's. He's good, but his angularity spoils him.
