The hike to Picacho Peak just outside of Tucson, Arizona is challenging, fun, nerve wracking and a different kind of trail experience. The Hunter Trail is an out and back trail of 3.2 miles, rated as difficult and has a huge elevation change of about 1500 feet. Don’t underestimate this one and be prepared with gloves.
How difficult was it? Was it scary scrambling up the edge of the mountain using cables? Would we do it again? Here’s our trail review.

In 1986 I climbed Picacho with two friends under a full moon. i loved it, and I would do it again.

I did this today, I knew in advance how the trail was and that it drops after the saddle but was still suprised at how steep it is in some spots. I had a great time, took good photos but i wouldn't do it again.

You just drove past my buddy and I as you were driving out of the desert area at about 2MPH. Safe travels! Can’t wait to buy mine in a few years for full timing for a couple years when I retire.

Yes painfully slow haha, those roads aren't very forgiving in this rig. Thank you. Awesome retirement plan, you'll love it.

I see you had your hiking poles, did you use them at all?

I'm fairly local and have done this 3 times so far. I wouldn't use poles generally unless they are quick release from your pack. Because there are too many places you are hanging on to cables, resting a hand against the rock face and too few times you can actually plant a pole on the ground. I would be too concerned about the distraction to use poles on this hike.

Kind of strange she didn't feel a sense of accomplishment after stating all the fears she overcame getting to the top! SMH. She must be fun to be around, not!
