For those potential haters ... I also looked at the wunderground radar map and there were a dozen+ storms that went right through his area, including the little town just up the road from him, so his fear was much deserved and real, especially sitting there and that little camper amplifying the sounds and shaking around in the winds and rain. His helmet wasn't cute - it was smart.

I was thinking the same thing...get an underground shelter, large enough for at least 2 people and your dogs. Have some water some non-perishable food or snacks, a camping potty or bucket....you should be there long, but you may have to be gotten out from beneath debris. I would do this new addition as soon as possible.

Number one rule of living in a camper - get out in a storm warning and get into a shelter. That table wasn’t going to do a thing for you let alone that trailer walls or ceiling. After 8 years living and traveling in our camper we have seen campers implode from tornadoes, winds, trees falling, and flooding. Always pack up and leave or put in a storm shelter.

I've seen some videos where people just left their campers and ran with their dogs into a little ditch with water and they survived along with minimal damage to their campers. I've been through just a horrible storm in a pop up camper and we were fine but the people camping across from us were picking up their stuff cuz theirs was destroyed. Weather is an amazing thing and can never be fully predicted what the outcome will be after it passes. I'm glad he is ok, I would have been terrified!
@MegaNewNan
@MegaNewNan 17 дней назад
@@wendypacheco7438 on our permanent site, which is a circle shaped area, a bunch of trees all toppled at the same time and took out a row of our neighbors across from us and left the rest of our campers unscathed. Fortunately that side unscathed was the side that were all the fulltime live-in campers who were home during that pop up windstorm. The other campers were unoccupied at the time and going inside later, there wasn’t a piece of furniture left standing. Everything was crushed. They were leveled. The only reason they didn’t blow away was because they had trees on top of them.

Please build a storm shelter and hey I could absolutely see in the video and hear in your voice to last person you talked to before going under table how worried with anxiety you were feeling. I do believe by putting on helmet gave you a better sense of safety then with out it on I think you would have been terrified. Not sure if you would have stayed under there anyway so glad it was a close call . But do please get a plan B or mobile storm shelter that you can lock yourself up in I think the trailer would have killed you if spun around in 200 mile wind even if it only was a few seconds flip in so scary I don’t know how so many people live in those high risk tornadoes areas stay safe my friend thanks for sharing

@dalesmyth7398
@dalesmyth7398 24 дня назад
@@lakesuperiorgirl17 Well, I think it's a mental thing, being underground is much safer I think. I understand the above ground shelters have been tested and all. I had issues with mine, the door locks. This company put standard dead bolt locks on the door, like on house doors!! This was 12 yrs ago. So, I'm moving the shelter about 80 ft, built a new pad, 12'' pad, with 6 pier holes, 6 ft. deep, 18'' round. Rebar, and 7 yds. of concrete. I had 4 new latches welded on the door, 3/4 in. steel bar stock, plus, 2 square heavy metal loops I can ram 2- 4x4 treated post in. It looks like a dungeon in there!! But dead bolt locks dont' cut the mustard. So, that bugged me for a while, plus the pad the company poured was crap. My pad is much better. So, once it's moved, I'll feel better, but still prefer to be underground. And most likely, I'll get another underground one. Last one I got rusted out in 5 years, it was steel, concrete encased, now it's full of water...no warranty, the company went out of business. I was screwed on that deal. Anyway, long stories with cellars/shelters, but what I saw in 1999 in Moore, Ok...underground is best, but shelters work fine if we can predict EF3 or below, which we can't.

By the time it hit your next door neighbour Stroud, you should be in shelter already - if that had come over you while you were in that camper, or making a late effort to get to your next door neighbor, you would no longer be here. When Ryan specifies underground, he truly means underground

Root/Storm cellar might be a good idea for a new project on the Ranch. It could be useful for food storage and be an emergency shelter during bad weather since y'all don't have a basement or anything like that.

Some root cellars are actually built into the side of a hill that is above any area that would flood. This way people and their stored items are "underground" but not already 6' deep in the worst way.

Thank you for letting us all know that you are okay. You might want to put a storm door into the silo. That might be safer than the camper. Getting a storm shelter like what @Paragon Ridge Ranch has, whether it's above ground or in ground, is a definite must.
@kbaxterpackwood
@kbaxterpackwood 25 дней назад
Silos that are not filled with grain can easily implode in a tornado event, the well house would be much safer than the silo.
@maryellencook9528
@maryellencook9528 25 дней назад
@@kbaxterpackwood that's good to know. I live in the Texas Hill Country, and any tornados that we have are in conjunction with hurricanes or tropical storms.
@kbaxterpackwood
@kbaxterpackwood 25 дней назад
@@maryellencook9528 once they start the construction on the inside of the bin, adding joists, studs, and the like, the bin will be less likely to implode in a high wind/tornado event. Not impossible, but less likely. When the derecho hit here in Iowa a couple of years ago it was right before harvest and thousands of grain bins imploded because they had just been emptied of the previous years grain harvest.
@amandaytx

I have lived on Texas coastal area and in Oklahoma and I would choose hurricanes over tornadoes any day. Please get a shelter big enough for you and the dogs soon. After the fencing nothing else is more important that a shelter. You still have lots of tornado season to go through and its not going to change that your in tornado alley.

I was thinking about you and Danielle during this mess of tornadoes. I moderate on a storm chaser channel and it certainly was very crazy. I hope this experience helps yiu understand how even a temporary but sturdy shelter is important (say, an underground root cellar for storing veggies) before you get an actual tornado shelter built or purchased. Glad Ryan Hall and Andy and chasers were there online for everyone in your area. Don't be scared be prepared is what Ryan Hall tells us - in Oklahoma, a storm shelter underground is often the best method of being prepared. Hooray for the helmet! Take care as you and Danielle breathe a sigh of relief during high plains (tornado) insanity!
