Amazing stuff, love what you’re doing! The TV show got me hooked years ago. Glad to see you’re still at it. Seems like you thought of everything, right up until the rocket hookup. Lots of ways to make that a break away quick connect so you don’t have to fumble with alligator clips in the middle of a chase.
for sure was thinking the same thing about that igniter connection. but easy for us to poke about that stuff it's a different thing "Reality". the TIV is a beast.
@@MXstar189 Nobody is poking. Comments and suggestions are part of normal conversations. ANY hint of something having room for improvement or curiosity if something could be enhanced is not the same as an attack. Not sure if you noticed, but Reed, the man himself from the video, loved and pinned my comment. So if HE didn’t take my comment as negative, then there is no one so “save” here.
@@swilson42 -I agree! - Having a critical eye is not a negative! I would prefer there were a separate section here in Comments for all suggestions/enhancements/corrections-for the production people to review.
I was thinking the same. @ReedTimmerWx, perhaps a magnetic disconnect for the +/- in one connector that would work similar to a magnetic charging connector on some laptops such as a MacBook Pro would be a quick and effective method. A connector that could only fit one way so no fumbling or plugging in... just bring them near and they catch. I realize it would need to be extremely lightweight so as the weight of the part attached to the rocket wouldn't affect its flight but that shouldn't be an issue to work out. Just thoughts. Thank you for all you do -- Keep up the outstanding work!
@@watchdogu.s.a.8973 The rocket engines are off the shelf parts. They look like Estes motors. Either way, the ignitors are a friction fit into the motors and are ejected upon ignition. With that in mind the easiest most foolproof connection in my mind would be a deans plug that is attached to the ignitor prior to being on a chase.
To do what he does, you cannot be normal. But I am glad that, in his own insanity, his heart flies straight like an arrow; time and again he proves how kind he is to people and animals.
Same here! Love the work Reed does! (When he mentioned "imagine you're on a chase with team Dominator" it was like "well of course! Literally only in my imagination!" 😂 I couldn't get so lucky bwahaha He mentioned how the rocket works and I thought "like Dorothy!" Then he said "like in twister!" And I lost it xD Super excited for July 19th!
I thought you would have used a fan-based suction system to stick the Dominator to the ground. There have been racecars that use something like this for more down force / stiction. NSC 🌩️🌪️😎
@@craigmiller332That would probably require a complete floor redesign, the reason why they work so well on race cars is also in combination with race floors (planks) that also introduce ground effect. Considering underneath it's probably mostly still an F-350 there's a TON of gaps and spaces that aren't sealed due to not having a plank beneath. You'd also have to consider a powerful enough fan to fight tornado level speeds. Good idea for sure and it would be a sight to behold, from my perspective I don't think it would be practical however.
@@peperonikiller it's an interesting thought exercise: let's say the Dominator is 7'wide x 20' long. That's 140 ft², or a little over 20,000 in². If we have some sort of a ducted fan, probably in the trunk area, with one side exposed to ambient air and the other to a *relatively sealed* Dominator interior/undercarriage, that with the suspension dropped so the skirting rests on the ground and can generate 0.5 psi differential pressure, that's 10,000 pounds / 5 tons of downforce. Is that more or less than stakes driven into unknown ground? No idea. But that downforce plus the weight of the dominator plus the semi-decent seal to keep wind from getting underneath might be worth a gander. In fact, a hovercraft-like skirt/inflatable cushion might be an even better seal 🦭 Think of it as a hovercraft with the fan running in reverse. Just spitballin' 😁
@@craigmiller332what happens if you lose power. The racecars depend on track speed to hold. Spikes in the ground work much better than hoping a fan (where would you mount? ) would hold all the way around
imagine being paid to go along with them and contribute to this. Anyways, have a great day at work tomorrow yall. I know I will. Half my earned money goes to uuuuukraine and illlllegal invaaaaders.
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen!!! I have been terrified of storms since I was trapped by one in and apartment at the age of 6. My mom was at work and the next thing I remember was the fireman digging me out! Back than kids stayed alone and had keys around their necks to go to school and back home , while your parents worked. Anyway, watching you is helping me confront my fears but gaining knowledge about storms! Thank you so very much !! At 55 I’m finally facing my fears!!
Nothing short of amazing! I incorporated your live chases for the last 10 yrs or so into our homeschool curriculum and all 5 kids are grown now Reed. You are making a difference in generations!!
@@emrilbennett8704I, too, watched Storm Chasers featuring Reed, Sean, Josh and Tim (rest in peace, Tim!). I also saw a few episodes of Reeds own storm chasing show.
I think in a way they DO have one. There are so many things in twisters that Reed helped pioneer; drilling spikes to secure your vehicle, launching rockets into the tornado, shouting YEEHAW as you zero-meter a wedge...
@@mith2946 it looks fine, its a standalone sequel so i dont see the need to compare it to the original film. whether it stands on its own or not will be determined by the performance of its cast.
This video is amazing! I hope it helps bring more sponsors to help further fund your goals. It’s so important to help keep us all safe in the more and more extreme weather patterns.
@@Dellarocco89 that's fair. Steve Irwin was a pioneer in his field as well. Reed has equipment no other chasers have. R/C Airplane with probes, rockets, vehicles and pinpoint experience. Nobody else has come close to accomplishing what Reed has. Not Dr.Josh Wurman, not anyone....Reed is the measuring stick at this time in history. As was Steve Irwin. However, Steve Irwin was not an American. Ben Franklin was and Dr.Timmer IS
@@sNorENaDo777 science is world wide though, and Reed isn't just pioneering American history. He's doing for the meteorological world what Steve did for the Zoological world
Let's not forget Sean Casey, who originally came up with the concept of the TIV.. No one else before then had built anything like it.. You have to give credit when credit is due. Not knocking Reed whatsoever. Sean's goal was an Imax film. Reed took that and has kept expanding and upgrading the original idea and has contributed a ton to the world of meteorology.
This is the BEST video ever, Dr. Reed Timmer! I'm just starting to watch the tornado chases after my body adjusted to the adrenaline bursts! I'm an older lady who SO ENJOYS you/your team's enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge. All that to say, this vehicle is AMAZING! Cannot wait to see her in ACTION🌪⛈💥
I watched the Premier on my phone and just had to watch it again on my laptop when I got home. The production of this video is just genius. The team was able to show and demonstrate the awesomeness of the Dominator 3 in a concise way. It's clear that everyone involved has produced a sophisticated and incredible machine built on learning from past endeavors. Brian was able to capture all the detailed information along with Reed & Team's passion for the chase. Great job! Never stop chasing.
Reed is amazing! He continues making vids past the movies that i watch as a kid, gettin actual data that will save lives! Hope you make it to 1 mil ,much love!
Reed, I can’t tell you how glad I am to see you doing videos like this. You have had the clearest mission for decades, and the improvements you’ve made along the way are why you’re seeing this immense scientific success now. You deserve all the eyeballs in the world. What you do is incredible. I hope you see more support from here as you go! Storm Chasers reboot! 🙃
Reed, you're the storm chasing legend we needed. Over the last month, you really pulled me into the science of tornados. My radar knowledge has jumped after watching your live streams. Keep doing you and never stop chasing!
May 28th, 2019 was not only a day you guys remember for having the first ever internal tornado data, but one that I do as well; I was in Lawrence at the time and it was one of the most anxious days of my life. God bless my mother who's been working with the NWS for over 25 years and is currently the MIC at the Topeka NWS office, and God bless you guys as well. NEVER STOP CHASING!
This season will be an exciting one! I’m ready to see Reed get like 9 intercepts in a week. 😂 I’m glad Reed has the Technology, team and safety to do what he loves. I admire you Reed. You give me the courage and passion to keep pushing every day and keep working towards my goal to get to Oklahoma University for meteorology. God has given you a gift and man it’s a great one. I pray for you, your equipment, and your team for the chases to come. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to what you can do this season! Never Stop Chasing - Reed Timmer.
Awesome video, Team Dominator! As a channel member, I love knowing I am supporting this exciting research!! I can't wait for the "season" to begin and watch the team in action! PLEASE consider joining the channel to support this important research! The exciting videos are just the icing on the cake! Never Stop Chasing 👍👍
You have come a long way since the original vehicle, creative, next level engineering, the perfect tool for twister research and those occasional visits to LA.
You're living the life, design/ building tools for your passion, pushing the limits and having fun and laughing while doing it. Can't wait to see you out in Dominator 3!
This is so well made, hats off to Brian and team dominator!! I love how Reed’s personality really shines through, I legitimately was laughing so hard when he was hammering that at 2:27 and happy seeing him share his passion with us all! This is such valuable information, thank you for sharing this all! Never stop chasing! 💪🏻
Still watch the old episodes of Storm Chasers. It`s awesome to see you still hard at it gathering data and saving people`s lives. That Dominator 3 is such an amazing machine compared to the first one! Keep up the good work, Reed! I look forward to what you can do this season.
Reed, I’ve been watching ever since I was five years old. I was absolutely invested in your videos even at such a very young age. I hope you continue making a difference in generations as you did mine. Keep doing what you’re doing best.
I remember watching the first season of your show on Discovery when I was still in school. Glad to know you're still doing so much incredible work to better understand these storms.
Reed I have been following you for about 13 years, and this video of the Dominator 3 is absolutely phenomenal. I can't wait for storm chasing this season 2024! Never Stop Chasing! Edit: How many miles are on Dominator 3?
Was just rewatching Storm Chasers. Was funny how mad Sean Casey was when you got the Dominator 1 😂 Also, glad the bat didn't bounce back and hit you this time lol
Sean quit when he finally got the IMAX shot he was looking for. His TIV-2 was a mechanical nightmare the first time out cause it kept on breaking ( not sure a 6x6 dually was a good idea). TIV-2 was ultimately too heavy to really be practical. From a mechanical standpoint I had to give it to Reed Timmer cause he managed to balance out protection with mobility.
I would have lost my mind learning about this thing at 12 years old. I mean I'm kind of losing my mind now learning about it and I'm 39. This is so very awesome.
I cant help but think how crazy excited Joel would have been to drive this beast, Reed, and sit through a tornado ripping up everything around you!! Never stop chasing!❣️
Seriously, I need a Twister movie with Reed leading. The shows and youtube channel are fantastic and I rewatch them often but can you imagine the movie and the science he could produce with a blockbuster budget?
Reed is an example of what dreams are made of. He has put his passion right to work into the most extraordinary tornado chasing vehicle. This is what happens when you work at a job that you love. Reed grew up 45 minutes from where I used to live and I have been watching him for many years. I have watched him grow over time and his contribution to our country/society has been/is so invaluable. I am so proud of him! This video is amazing Reed! Never stop chasing! ❤️🇺🇸💪🏼America strong!
This photo reminds me of the Dr. Evil line, You know, I have one simple request, and that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! 😂 Y'all rock
I absolutely love watching these videos (and streams) Reed is my favorite storm chaser! (Also "Squeak squeak goes the dominator 3" got me dying) never stop chasing!
I love how Reed is a professional, a child, an idiot and a genius all at the same time. Clearly a fellow Xennial and Im here for it. Keep being you Reed!
As someone who grew up and lives in the Midwest, Reed and his ever changing and growing Team Dominator have been a huge part of my life and I’m glad he’s going full beans with his PhD. Nobody better than Reed, and of course the OG Chaser Gizmo. I was just thinking Gizmo the other day, glad to see that cute pup is still helping Timmer with his research! What I’d give to intercept an EF 2-4 in Dominator 3. Never stop chasing, Reed!
This is SUPER COOL!! 🙌 I LOVE it!! 🥰 TYVM Dr. Reed!!! 👏👍 I hope l live long enough to see these rockets like gadgets actually decimate the tornados!! Never Stop Chasing! Stay Safe!☺️✌️❤️🦋🙏
Great presentation Reed! I’ve been a big fan, watching you & others chase since 2007. Finally a probe that’s accomplishing its mission lol. Looking forward to another great season of storm chasing!
It was great to see the changes and refinements Dominator 3 has gone through since it first came online. I, like so many others, started watching you in the Discovery Channel series. I have every episode, bot all the DVDs and then in the subsequent years you had a channel which were chases and I bought them also - downloading the videos online. I've watched the Dominators as they were introduced, your various episodes and personnel (different drivers), your Oklahoma house and neighborhood (which I think you were actually glad to leave), and enjoyed Joel and Gizmo. I recall your working with Channel 4 a short time, then with Accuweather chasing various weather phenomena, tornadoes, mud slides and blizzards. So many changes through the years. It was a thrill for me to be able to learn about the Dominator 3, as it is today. Thank you for posting this video.
Oh my god Reed! This whole, setup is so incredible…..im so impressed…i retire next month..62 years old and one dream ive always had was and is to see an actual tornado..ever since I was 6 I was fascinated by the tornado….im going on a road trip in June to,see if I can see something..im going alone and leaving the husband at home with the cat to do this….🤦♀️🤣😁
So damned cool Reed. I love your never ending passion for being on the razor thin cutting edge of research and innovation. You are your staff are legends, and we appreciate all you do.
I wonder if dr josh wurman watches these videos from reed and remembers how he said live on storm chasers all those years ago that he didn't think reed was committed to the scientific aspect of storm chasing. Keep dominating baby!
Reed , you are a true *character* through and through! years have been keeping up with you. Congratulations on the latest marvel of engineering!!!!! 👍⛈👍 go get'em
I remember watching the Storm chaser show about 4 years ago for the first time and i was hooked both by the storms and your personality..... Fast forward to years later when i finally have my own RU-vid account, and im so glad I stumbled across your channel!! I just wanted to say THANKS!!❤
Thank you for what you guys do. This job takes incredible skill, perseverance, and patience. Been watching you guys for so many years. Never stop chasing. Stay safe out there 🙏
I truly can’t explain how happy I am to see your still going at the intercept idea, I thought you stopped a few years ago, but I’m actually excited to see what this thing can do and see what you get done this year. That huge break thru will make it all worth it.
Always thought this guy was crazy as hell but the laughter seals the deal! Best of luck! Yall hiring drivers because I think the crazy may be contagious.
Thank you for all you do, Reed&Team! Not only do you take us on breathtaking adventures but you're making history doing this! So many of our advancements with weather science all because of you guys. Forever grateful for you all! Also thank you for this video, your energy was on point and took a rough day into a good one. (Anytime you stream though. Your energy is awesome!) Never stop chasing!❤🌪
Yo Reed, I have been a fan of you since I was a kid, you were the guy who I first thought of when I thought of Tornadoes. My favorite moment of you is in "Overtaken" when you try to deploy your probe, and instead, you lose your hat. That hat is probably gone, but I love how at the time you just looked at the hat for like half a second, then looked away. You were probably about a couple hundred yards away from that tornado. You are awesome.
