I actually know the answer to this, a lot of the creepy nursery rhymes were made in old times where there was a lot of dangerous things to watch out for like serial killers and sickness so a lot of nursery rhymes are actually warnings made for their children. The muffin man for example was made to warn children against the 16th century Drury Lane Dicer, one of England’s first serial killers. And ring around the rosy was used to warn people against the plague, most people know that one though.

Humans have a dark, dreary past and I don’t see that changing for the future. At least, not for awhile.

I was told the tale of the white string every night before bed, I don’t get scared easily and I would assume that that’s why. Maybe people didn’t want their children to be scared easily and be able to defend themselves And maybe certain lessons like “don’t trust strangers” and stuff like that

The weird part about all of this is that None of the rhymes/stories whatsoever made as warnings were perceived as warnings from a child's a eye until they got older I mean. So if the warnings were for children, it didn't work, instead it created trauma for all those ppl who believed the songs were talking about something else- Cuz I am Disturbed 💀✋🏻
