Yes I’m concerned about this too. It’s like a Virgin Active Gym club they used to have in the UK. The decor very modern and quite “cold / hard” feeling
The fact that they tried “hard” is what I like about it. They didn’t just rebrand the look of another cruise line, and they didn’t just throw up a bunch new water slides, roller coasters, indoor skydiving, rock climbing, and say they’re different. This legitimately looks like an eccentric Miami hotel/resort, and I love it as an alternative to what is available on all the other cruise lines. Looks like a true floating resort for adults and not a floating theme park for families with children.
@@peejay305 I wouldn't mind a cruise ship like that at all. I love a time outs from my tribe. To me it feels tacky and over done. I have been on 4 cruises. I love a relaxing feeling. This feels like it's trying to be a players play ground and way to much for a relaxing time. But I do understand what you are saying.
my3hawaiianboys yeah I can see that. I think that’s their intent though. There are plenty of other cruise lines and ships that offer a relaxing cruise. However, this appears to be for the subset of people who want to party, socialize, etc., but also want that “player” vibe and style. And it’s a cruise ship, so I’m absolutely sure there will be areas on the ship where people are relaxing, catching some sun, etc. It’s like the Cosmopolitan or the Hard Rock in Vegas. These are resorts that attract a certain crowd and appeal to a certain lifestyle.
Thought the same thing. While clean and most probably light and airy there is an overload of glossy IKEA like design. While not terrible it does give it a cheaper look than most other ships probably looks much better in person and as you guys said... like Marmite... not for everyone.
Love your vlog! But....not sure that i love this ship. I wanted to love it...but I don’t think I do....especially for the price that they are currently asking. I feel like it looks like they were trying way too hard to look “cool”.
Love your vlogs guys, but not this ship. I'm 59 and love to party but this is just plain ugh. That cabin is not large by any means. And that bathroom is tiny. The spa looks cool , but the pool deck. Are you kidding me. I've seen many of your vlogs on different ships and agree with most. But this ship will never get my money. Sorry.
The funny a lot of cruisers say they don't care about the cabin because they are never in it. if the ship lives up to the hype of being youthful and fun I doubt I'm going to spend much time in my cabin. Show me to the club.
@@jthird2992 I very much care about the cabin. The ones that say they're never in them are in an inside and don't care to spend money on a balcony or can't afford it.
I live in San Diego and this reminds me of the 20 somethings super apartments we have here. Not my cup of tea. My chubby cakes wouldnt even fit in half those seats lmaooo
Am I crazy? Do the ceilings seem really low to anyone else? Also all the colored lights and contrasting patterns are making me dizzy. I'm 25. I feel like this ship should be right up my alley, but I'm really disappointed. I think I'd have to pass. I'll keep an eye on this brand, though.
It isn't for me either, but a lot of people will like it. There are a lot that are interesting to see but it isn't really for most middle aged people like myself and that's ok. Virgin, is a company that promotes a young, hip vibe and this ship reflects that.
Dan Carey I didn’t read anyone else’s comment so apparently my thoughts on it are correct if so many people said it. It wasn’t an insult, it was the truth. I wasn’t meaning to offend anyone so take it as you will.
It looks like someones on the Virgin payroll. This is the most biased, unfiltered and unrelatable review I've ever seen. This ship is completely overrated and not to mention way overpriced. Bye felicia!
We have made it very clear we have not been paid by Virgin Voyages to make this video, they have not had any control over what we do or say. We have also fully disclosed that this cruise was a preview for press, media and travel agents. Everyone on the ship was invited and she is not taking paying passengers yet. We pointed out both positive and negatives in this video. We always try to show off the ship and let the viewer decide if it's for them or not and If you have watched any of our previous video you will see this is the same for any cruise ship tour. Hope you enjoyed the video.
I appreciate your hard work and I hope you loved it. I'm glad I saw this because I was thinking of booking, but honestly, not my thing. The room feels cheap, IKEAish, claustrophobic and unfinished. Everything feels like the space was not used to its potential. I am very disappointed. The only cool thing is the hammock.
Doesn’t look like a spacious room to me. I understand most size suitcases will not fit under the bed. Looks very modern but too IKEA style for me. Light switch in the closet. What idiot designed that. Come on guys, y’all are too excited over this.
I'm about to hit 30 so I imagine I'm Virgins target market so heres my thoughts, the cabin looks half furnished, having to choose between a bed and sofa I hate, the balcony seating looks cheap and uncomfortable (along with the rest of the seating across the ship), the hammock looks tacky and I imagine in a few months most balcony's will be missing them. But yes there is some Instagramable spots, but I don't post them type of photos onto my socials so its useless to me. However I'm still intrigued so I'll wait a few seasons until I hear enough positive reviews, along with an itinerary which interests me at a price I'm happy with.
Was this designed for teenagers ? Absolutely hideous ! Also what were they thinking with having only one small pool that can barely accommodate 10 people, where do the other 3990 people go?
I hate to say it guys but you really over sold this one and overly passed over the negatives. OGM it's so big, look how spacious it is, so much space and storage. oh and we cant really tell if the pool is big enough and all cruise ship bathrooms are small but look at the towels. come on. how many cruises have you been on? you know full well that pool is super small for how many people are going to be on this ship. the bathroom is even smaller than most cruise ship bathrooms unless your in a studio solo cabin and even then it's close. I also notices the suitcases you put under the bed were carry ons? would a full suitcase fit under there sure did not look like it. and as far as the cabins are concerned. College dorm room came to mind a year ago and nothing here has changed my mind. I expect to see huge discounts in a couple months after the honeymoon period is over as the average cruiser will not be drawn to this ship and there are only so many young vloggers and instagram models in the world and they want paid to travel. Really hated to see you guys sing nothing but praise ans gloss over anything negative. seems too one sided to me. sorry but keep vlogging
KarrenK They must be positive in reviews or they will lose access to future invitations to things like this. Of course, it’s quite obvious to see that pool is to small for swimming. It will likely just be used as a prop for Instagram photos by most passengers. In a selfie, it may not be apparent how small it is.
Sorry guys but this ship is a HUGE disappointment in so many different ways. After all the hype it just looks cheap and tacky. I wont be sailing on her anytime soon when there's so much choice out there in the marketplace.
Please... show me ONE *comfortable* place to sit on the ship!!!!!! The seating elements look amazing for the brochure shots... but nothing says: I'm on holiday--let's relax and have fun! One of my problems is in the miniature-sized cabins. Storage?!?! I travel constantly. So many designers sacrifice practicality for design. When they can work seamlessly together! (The 3 F's: Form Follows Function!) Have the cabin designers actually ever traveled and stayed in a hotel--or a cruise ship? Where do you put your essentials? Where do you put your luggage? Basics. I do love the excitement in the design and colors. (Yes, it can be off-putting to the masses... but this isn't a product for the mass-market!) I also agree with many of the comments here and with other posted reviews of the Scarlet Lady. However--when you want to be "different" just to be "different" it shows. The live entertainment options appear to be everywhere... but the Red Room is just awkward at best... just "different"... not better... not good. Just "different". Maybe I had the highest of expectations for the Adult-Only Virgin Voyages--and I feel like that expectation wasn't met. It will also be interesting to see how she ages. Most of the design choices are not friendly to the harsh world of a Cruise Ship. ("Quick! Catch that trolley before it crashes into... never mind.") However--I can't wait to see if for myself. And I will. I must! THX guys for a beautifully built video... looking forward to more!
There will absolutely be a mild refresh in no time at all to make it more normal. I wanted to love Virgin Voyages but the stateroom is key for me. 😔 Unfortunately it looks like a Travelodge of the near future. How stupidly hot are those metal balcony chairs going to be in the Caribbean? 🔥 The hammock chairs will be removed the second a passenger says the ship hit a wave and brought them near the balcony edge.
Looks like a motel room, especially that closet won't even pass a 3-star i think. No space for a 7 day voyage.I love the myriad of dining concepts and entertainment though some of the interiors look shabby. It's a brilliant idea poorly executed.
Cabin looks spartan and undecorated. Furnished by IKEA as others have pointed out. If you're charging a premium for a cruise, don't make the accommodation feel like a youth hostel. A curtain across the closet? C'mon. Much of the decor looks migraine inducing. Shopping and services look targeted to 20-30 crowd and those that wish they were still 20-30. Entertainment looks try-too-hard. Has a vibe of trying to hit the woke-hipster-millennial market. And there's nothing wrong with that, but it feels like a boomer's idea of what a millennial wants. But heck, what do I know, I'm late gen X. Is woke-hipster-millennial-cruise-curious-with-money a very big market? Are there really droves of people saying "I'd cruise, if only the furniture was harder, the decor redder, and I could get a tattoo and buy vinyl on board"? But cool hammock, I guess.
A bit too quirky for our taste. Small bathroom, a shower curtain for a closet door, storage space is lacking, and an overall too sterile minimalist look to the room. More than 5 days onboard would have me wretching from the decor. Hope they improve when they arrive in Miami. At first glance, it looks rushed. Thanks for the video guys.
While some of the ship looks great it's very obvious that the designers have never worked on a cruise ship before as the majority of the furniture looks nice but is completely impractical plus in the rooms the bathroom is small even for a cruise ship and other than the one wardrobe there is no other storage in the room, also the light switch and do not disturb button are both in terrible places, and dont get ne started on the pool or lifeboat placements
Everybody mad 🤷🏼 It seems clear Virgin is determined to do something dramatically different than what Carnival, RCL and NCL are doing and have done and are aiming to attract people to cruising who may not have been interested based on their perceptions of the other cruise lines. I personally know several 30-somethings who are in a financial position to spend money on vacations who I’ve been unable to convince to go on a cruise with me because they think it’s a waste of time and money versus just flying to a specific destination and vacationing there. On a 7-day cruise, you spend 3+ days just at sea, and the port days you normally just get a few hours to do an excursion or just lay on the beach. The buffet dining, the kids on board, the old people on board, the cheesy game shows, the cheesy broadway-style shows, the token steel drum reggae band, the hairy belly challenge, etc., is not these people’s cup of tea. These are people who want to party on vacation. They want a trendy vibe like the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, or some chic hotel on South Beach, or Moxy (a trendy minimalist Marriott brand). And yes, the price point is likely to ensure it keeps it exclusive to a certain clientele and social demographic. This seems to be Virgin’s attempt to bring that particular untapped crowd into cruising. Perhaps a younger, cooler vibe than Celebrity. For those who think it’s too different, quirky or trendy, stick to Carnival, RCL, NCL. I’m sure this first ship will also help the company refine the design and features of its future ships. I definitely plan on going on Virgin; if not the Scarlett, I’ll go on its next ship. Looks really cool and unlike the other cruise lines, and I don’t have a problem with IKEA furniture.
peejay305 I agree 100%. Still on the fence if this is a ship I want to go on, but the “trendy vibe” crowd doesn’t swim. They lounge, lounge in a shallow end of a pool, or be in intimate spaces like hot tubs. They don’t have kids in tow, so the “Normal” doesn’t apply. I was glad to see an enthusiastic review. I definitely don’t care for the rooms too much. Very curious to see more reviews when this hits the ocean in Miami and more people go through.
rwalkerg Exactly. Go to the pool at the W in Scottsdale or the JW Marriott by the Staples center. The trendy crowd are definitely spending their money and hanging out there, but they aren’t necessarily full-on swimming. They’re sitting in the pool not swimming in it. That pool on the Scarlett still looks way to small for the amount of people though...especially on a sea day. However it goes, the ship looks distinctly different than the ones offered by the other cruise lines, and I hope the company does well and is able to improve and stand out as an offering to those of us who aren’t in either of the typical target demographic for cruises: gen Z booze cruisers (Carnival), families with children (RCL, Disney), and old folks (Norwegian, MSC, Viking). Younger professionals who have a little money to spend and want a fun (or relaxing), sexy, contemporary cruise experience. Don’t need indoor skydiving, bumper cars, a merry go round. Just good bars and lounges, good dj’s, trap karaoke, a good pool party, brunch, hookah maybe (probably too much of a fire risk), etc. Virgin is new, so it’ll be cool to see if they can successfully carve out that niche.
peejay305 I agree with this post and quite frankly I would be more excited about cruising with a healthier crowd of passengers that are more active. I’m 48 so it’s not an age thing but more a health conscious thing. I think this ship will attract more of a vibrant crowd. I dig that the only issue I see is that there doesn’t seem to be a lot of places to loinge or comfortable chairs and seating but that’s always something they can easily improve. Also curious if the workout room overseas then view because they filmed at night.
My dorm looked better than that cabin. So cheap and uncomfortable looking for the price they're changing. Fyi it's not specious. Giving me ikea realness. And a curtain for closet? Seriously??
So wanted to love this ship but...there’s nothing, that appealed to me at all. That pool is a joke,3,000+ people and that one little pool.....good luck cooling off in that... Apart from the all inclusive restaurants the rest of the ship is a muddled mess... Why would you have people who have never cruised before be in charge of design... A step to far unfortunately Sir Richard... Let’s hope all these clutches get sorted on the remaining 3 ships..... Great video guys, didn’t like the content!!
I was excited and had very high hopes for this ship!! Total fail!! 1 teeny tiny POOL? A tattoo parlor? i mean...the thought at first was like ok, that's something different but now its as if they are trying to hard to be that "different" ship. Staterooms are a joke! It looks like IKEA threw up all over them. Ahh...i hope they pay close attention to comments from passengers and cruise vloggers and take those comments into consideration for their next ship or whenever Scarlet Lady goes in dry dock. Nonetheless, great video guys!! :)
Love the both of you! Thank you for the VLOG but the cabin seems small. The balcony is spacious! Salor services reminds me a mobile phone company with the 4 tables! Alot of the decor seems to be for the younger generation. I did like the champagne bar! So the coffee shop has a charge but no speciality dining charge? 🤔 WOW my backyard pool is bigger than that pool!
@Brian Eehh. I dont know about that. The bathrooms in the suites look huge and easily accessible. There seems to be a good variety of seating at the different restaurants (noticed seats without arms, banquettes, wide chairs).
Room looks spacious because you have no seating and little storage. As soon as you turn the bed into a sofa you'll need to find space for those suitcases that you were storing under there
This is the most awesome ship in the world... Can't wait to the pandemic ends to book this ship for sure, my first cruise and the best thing is not kids anywhere, just perfection
Loads of storage?? Where? You just have the wardrobe in the room and half of that is taken up by your suitcases because, as you failed to mention but other reviews pointed out, only small suitcases fit under the bed. Some things look cool on the ship and I like the dining concept. But sorry, I enjoy you guys, but reviews like this with almost zero critical points aren't helpful to me. Just makes me think you're giving amazing reviews to get free cruises. Feels and looks like an ad. There are plenty of other reviews out there that are more believable (ie. critical) on this new ship.
I’m happy that Richard Branson isn’t targeting my age group...I think this ship is butt ugly. The rooms are small... and....The hammock on the terraces...??? You’re looking LOOKING for trouble... that’s jmo
Hey there, definitely not my idea of a lovely relaxing holiday.... More like what I think Ibiza would be like and a distant cry from Richard Branson's holiday island.....which is way where I would prefer to holiday. Probably aiming at a completely different customer from me. Aiming for a customer that mostly don't cruise but spend most of their pay at the night club. Massive punt...all the best to him.
I love people like Ben and David, people who are able to appreciate little details and get amazed by new travelling experiencies. Watching you guys makes me start planning my next trip.
Sorry but this ship looks like it's too busy with all the psychedelic lighting and just too much going on. Just my opinion but if your spending good $$$ you would want a ship that feels like your on a vacation and want to relax and not feel that your in a disco club pretty much everywhere you go. I got a headache just watching the video. not my cup of tea more like a high voltage caffeine drink.
Oh dear....I got to admire the enthusiasm of these two, but just like the ship itself, they are trying too hard....an ibis budget hotel has more character than the cabin they showed us, you can't be that excited by the design surely? 🤔🤔 Yes it has a few mod cons but seriously lacks in overall character and charm. Far too many amenities that are far too small for a ship this size and the market she is aimed at. Thought this was going to better...
I wonder who they are aiming this ship at? It looks very tacky. Very poorly designed cabin, not bedside sockets. Light switches hidden by your clothes, no room under the bed for your suitcases.
Oh my eyes!. Probably not for me but it's aimed at the younger generation (who like Ikea). Anyone think the hammock on the balcony is dangerous? Fall out of it wrong and you're over the side of the ship
Great video and you guys have amazing personalities, but this ship looks extremely tacky. And the stateroom looks like an dark, dim unfinished dorm room. Does not appeal to me at all.
Ghastly not “fancy”!!! The lighting in the cabin and around the ship is awful and I’m sure if seasickness didn’t get me then the lighting would make me bilious. As for the cabin, where do I start, it’s small with the life jackets taking up precious storage space. A curtain instead of wardrobe doors - no thank you. And only one seat, do you take it in turns to use it? I would have liked to see the bed turn into a sofa as the cabin is small. There only seemed to one bedside table, is that correct? I’m sure the cruise line will appeal to families but the vast majority of cruisers will be happy to sail past this ship. Perhaps a more objective review next time guys. Your enthusiasm for a poor product is to be applauded.
Holy cow is that your travel gimbal?! Get yourself a Zhiyun Waybill S and you can thank me later. As for the ship, I'm not liking it. I see a ton a wasted space and only one pool for 3,000 guests?? This ship might work for the modern millennials, but for the regular people, I don't think it will do too well. Only time will tell.
Young people like to get in the pool so not sure why we would like it? In fact the pool alone is probably a deal breaker for me and my friends. Tiny pool and the IKEA feel is not for me. Like trying to give it a Las Vegas vibe and failing.
Guys, you seem way too exited! Please don't take this the wrong way but did the free trip/visit have an impact on your review of this ship? Seems like you got caught up in the moment. Anyhow, I'm not liking the balcony room as there's no sofa/lack of furniture and the bathroom is the smallest I have ever seen - but I guess staying in a suite resolves this. The restaurants look very interesting, Red Room(main theater) seating seems insufficient considering 4k passengers will be on board, and the overall layout of the ship seems to have broken the traditional mold(not necessarily a bad thing). Looking forward to seeing reviews for paying passengers, and I do plan on giving this ship a try - even tough I am not the millennial they are looking for :)
As always, I love your review but this ship is definitely not for me. I agree with others in that it looks cheap, tacky and unfinished. The only thing that looks comfortable to me is the hammock. Sorry Virgin, but I'll be giving this one a pass.
I've never been on a cruise because the formal, traditional look of cruises has always put me off. I had starting to plan my 1st cruise for 2020 until the world went mad. Having no personal cruise ship experiences to compare the Scarlet to, I really like this radically different looking ship. Personal preferences are just that, personal, so it's great to have different choices to cater for different tastes. Doesn't mean a style you don't like is rubbish, just means you won't be spending your money on this ship !. Nobody will be forced to book on a cruise they don't like, so the experienced cruise aficionados can calm down.......... Nice review boys.
There are hundreds of boutique hotels and they all have something similar to this ship catering for the young and well off. This must be their market. So don’t fret, they probably don follow cruise posts either. We can stick to all the other cruise lines that pander to us older cruisers every whim.
lol the bathroom is "nice and small"?!? That bathroom is NOTHING like "normal" cruise ships. I'm not sure how much credibility you had before, but you certainly don't have any now.
I see quite a few comments here saying that the younger generation will like this, I’m from the younger generation, I’m an iGen kid born in 97 and honestly, this ship is giving me quite some very uncomfortable vibes. It’s almost trying too hard to impress, the stateroom in my opinion is too ahead of its time. Queen Mary 2 and Symphony of the Seas looks much better like real cruise ships and ocean liners in my opinion.
"the stateroom in my opinion is too ahead of its time" I cannot agree. The staterooms (David and Ben were in) looked like a shoebox. Personally, it looked like he ran out of money and just said "Fuuket, just but it at Target."
I absolutely love this ship. It’s so different and that’s what it makes is so special. It’s not build to attract average cruisers, and that’s the point. Definitely i would book a cruise on a Scarlet Lady. Good job Virgin Voyages, it’s one of a kind!
This ship will be a failure. The old saying stick with what you know. Airplanes with branson. Ship is like a glow in the dark fun house. Total failure every way.
I'll be honest, I'm extremly disappointed, which is sad cause I was so excited about this ship. The only artwork was in the tattoo parlor and the interiors were just blah. I thought this was suppose to be a premium cruise line. That was the cheapest looking plasticy bathroom ever and the cabin hallways looked like a cheap brothel in Amsterdam, and seriously, a damn shower curtain instead of a closet. Concept is great and luv the crews look and personality, but the execution is way off . I'll stick with Celebrity.
My girl works on that ship. The company cut internet speed down for employees so low they cant make video or audio calls on whatsapp or duo. The employees complain they miss their families and nothing is improving. The company doesn't give 2 💩 about its employees. I will call corporate. Multiple billion dollar company skimps on internet for their hard working underpaid employees. 😠
