Wow.. It's horrible to see and hear about the damage 1 tire can do. That kinda stuff scares me big time and I'm sure it frazzled your nerves a bit too.. Good thing is you all are ok and it sounded like yah had some awesome roadside helpers. 😇😇😇 starting with the officer to the tow truck drivers to tire shop guys. Be safe

We had a similar experience with a tire blowout. Ours was a rear inner wheel tire. We were on I 10 going west 4 miles from Lordsburg, NM. We had no shoulder we were actually still on part of the right lane. Ours blew out so hard it blew our shower completely out of the inside of the rig, the shower door was laying in the hallway . Luckily it did not shatter. We had what we thought was smoke but it was the dirt from the inside of the tire and smelt like burnt rubber. Yes we lost the wheel well, wheel trim, shower with all the plumbing, enclosure for the def tank and one of the leveling jacks. We also had Good Sam, Geico and neither were any help. We limped for 3 miles to get off the interstate. We found a roadside tire company that had our size tire, luckily the rim was fine. 2 guys showed up both named Chris and changed out our tire within an hour and a half and we were on the road and made it home to Phoenix with no more issues. After we got home we filed an insurance claim. $16k later we have our motorhome back. First thing we did was buy all new tires. Yes it’s an ordeal but it worked out just fine.

As a commercial truck driver, nothing can scare the crap out of you like blowing a tire. Our company is part of the Michelin system of tire shops nationwide that do our road service as needed. They might be something to look into and see if they have rv services available. I would think so since you’re running full size truck tires. I’ve never understood why the inner fenders aren’t re-enforced better than they are on motor homes and travel trailers. Blown tires are inevitable. Glad you guys are ok.

Just a friendly suggestion for you. Here's the easy way to get out of your situation. Have the tire man remove an outside tire from your duals and put it on in place of your blown tire and damaged wheel. Easy fix and you can drive it into the next town and tire shop.

When you have a tire blow out in order not to have the RV pull toward the side of the blow out. You need to keep your foot on the accelerator and get the RV straight before you slow down by letting up on the accelerator fist and then slowly breaking. You may want to check into retrobands for the RV tires. This can help you keep the RV steering straight even if the tires blows. So glad your story ended well. ❤ Recently a family wasn’t so lucky and the motor home steered into oncoming traffic. This is very serious and all your viewers need to take all possible precautions.

You can watch Newmar videos with them using the leveling Jack's to change tires at there factory. Watch our journey in miles and he talks about it. I think retro bands and a spare tire carrier on the hitch would have saved a lot of grief. Glad it wasn't any worse and your motorhome was repairable.

All tires have a 4-digit code on them, to tell you when the week and year they were made, (example 4422 inside an oval stamped on the sidewall, means 44th week of 2022, the 44th week is October 23rd to 29th when the tire was made) Now you can count the number of years old they are, So when you buy tires to put on the vehicle they may be 6 months to 1 year old before you bought them. Keep this tire (date of birth) in mind, when buying tires...

I checked that when we bought this RV last Oct. They're 4919, so not even 4 years old yet.

So glad you got thru that. Nothing bothers me more than the thought of a tire issue. We have tpms sensors on our rig and they are always going off because they read hot. We set the tires at the proper pressure per the sidewall and then when we get going they read too hot. That scares me. Never sure !!! Y’all have had some bad luck lately. Praying you have safe travels.

Glad y’all are safe! How come you’re not going through insurance for all the damage caused during the blow out?
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 9 месяцев назад
The amount of damage isn't worth getting them involved when you factor in the deductible and almost assured future rate increase from making a claim. Insurance is great when someone else hits you (like with the Jeep) but not so much in basically ever other scenario...

Watching your video. Scares me on blowouts also. Was this during the day or night. The tire guy thinks you hit something. Just wondering, because you didn’t mention that you saw anything on the interstate or even have felt running over something, unless it was at night when the road isn’t overly lit up.
@pgithens1
@pgithens1 4 месяца назад
Dreaming of camping season and catching up on RV videos. You don't mention if you have any sort of steering stabilizer. They get heavily marketed as being helpful in a blown out steer tire situation so I was curious if you do. Also, you mentioned the TST system but not whether it gave any indications of a leak? Seems like it was a pretty sudden event though so probably not really useful in that particular situation.
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 4 месяца назад
We don't have a steering stabilizer on this rig. They're not nearly as necessary on the bigger and heavier diesel pushers. The stock steering on this motorhome is worlds better than it was on our previous gas motorhome with an added steering stabilizer. As for the TPMS, I'm running TST and like them a lot, but there was no indication that anything was going wrong until the tire had already ruptured, and that's what my ears heard as well. A second (maybe two) of a loud hissing and then it was gone. The best TPMS in the world can't predict a rapid failure but you will definitely want one for slow leaks and maintenance.
@roadtripwarriors7458
@roadtripwarriors7458 9 месяцев назад
Roadside assistance companies are great, unless you need to use their services. Then, as you have found out, they are mostly worthless! At least they were able to reimburse you but I would think you would rather have the "roadside assistance" from them rather than you paying and being reimbursed. That said, I did have a great experience with Coachnet.
