Scary!!! Tornado warning in Fort Worth, Texas with Sirens

Filming a storm moving east into Fort Worth on 4-17-08. Sirens go off at 3:40. A tornado was spotted near the town of Aledo to the west earlier from this storm. Notice the green sky before the Sirens started to go off at 3:40. Sorry about the clicking sound, was using a horrible tripod.

the green color is the heart of a supercell mesocyclone, the updrafts is so strong in this area the rain gets sucked back into the atmosphere repeatedly and creates hail, the reflection of the ice, clouds, and sun make the color look green. This area is the dead center of the supercell and where the updraft is strongest, typically you wont have much wind at all in this area on the ground because the wind is literally going up, as opposed to down or side to side. The rear flank is where the rear flank downdraft is located and where the wind is usually strongest. Rotation occurs near the rear flank where the updraft and downdrafts meet and cause rotation, sometimes becoming so strong and tight that a tornado forms. My advice is if you ever see a sky that looks like this above or even near you take cover

Only supercell you gotta worry about is low topped for damaging winds due to normally extreme wind energy and not much rising as low topped supercells only reach about 20000 ft, we get alot of hslc events here in nc

99% of the time a tornado never forms, when they do, its a small chance it will come your way (if it even stays on the ground that long) I've lived in Texas most of my life and have never seen one with my own eyes...plus the sirens could go off, but the tornado will be on the other side of the city heading the opposite direction.
@RavenEffect341
@RavenEffect341 12 лет назад
Exactly. It's fun to watch these videos and hear different sirens, see different events, chase yourself, etc. However, it is a WHOLE different story when the storms come to you and there is nothing you can do. When those sirens sound, and you know it is heading your direction; your entire attitude changes VERY quickly.

My family and I watched as a funnel cloud started forming in the distance, clearly a tornado forming. We called the police and told them that they needed to issue a tornado warning, they told us and I quote "A warning cannot be issued unless a tornado is already on the ground" so muffed up!!

The fact of the matter is you can either go hide in your bathroom for hours or you can go outside and see for yourself. MOST of the time tornados dont just sneak up on you so you can see them miles away before they are anywhere near you. I say most of the time cause sometimes they are rain wrapped and in this case I dont know if it was the camera but it seemed pretty dark and sketchy so hats off to you brother for hanging in there and giving us the great vid!!!

i had a creepy tornado storm once, it was a school day and was pretty windy and when it was time to go pick up my brother it was getting cloudy quick and i was like "its like so windy today, mom". and she said "we were in a tornado watch all this time and is supposed to get worse very soon". i was a little freaked out but when the storm hit it said that it was severe and there lightning strikes everywhere and after the storm it went to sunny pretty fast which told me something worse was gonna happen and it happened another severe t-storm came and brought hail that it stopped and eveything was back to normal as if that is what i thought, that night there was a tornado warning for the county of bluegrass and that was the closses town to mine and it got pretty bad than we had the tornado but we did not go to any shelter we watched it and was awesome and no damage besides a few branches from that storm. my county was Muscatine, IOWA

I've been through that kind of storm in Columbia City, Indiana. I had to go to the library with my 13(Now 14) year old sister, and 7 year old cousin. We were in a Severe Thunderstorm Warning but I only knew that because of my aunt. Just being inside a library that's mostly glass was scary and like the sky was pitch black. The sky went from like grey to almost charcoal black. When I saw the supercell forming I nearly burst into tears. But with me being 11 at the time I knew if I broke down by my 7 yr old cousin he would freak out. The sky was green and I immediately thought about a tornado. We had no Tornado Watch or Warning. The only cool thing was the rain it sort of calmed me down.

In Houston there are no tornado sirens, even though it's rare doesn't mean it won't happen. 1 ef-2 tornado went through the suburb of Katy & another tornado an ef-4 went through the east side of town in Channelview. & I think another 1 went through Aldine, which is in the north side of Houston a long time ago.

Why are the sirens going Hi-Lo? Usually that’s reserved for nuclear attack, nothing else. From what I’ve seen and heard, during a tornado warning, the sirens do the “alert” tone, usually one steady tone for 2 minutes. Maybe Ft. Worth was different back then?

when the sky turns green its never a good sign if anyone of you have seen the movie Twister when Dusty asks Bill what hes doing Bill looks at the sky and says "Going green" which meant he knew the tornado was coming

Man those clouds are scary, here in South Florida we get bad storms but not like that sometimes there is a lot of lightning and very dark clouds in the spring and summer months.

Were those Whelen Vortex R-4 sirens going off?

Dunno. But they’re the same sirens Fort Worth has had since at least the early 2000’s. Grey, square shaped, with 3 off the horn looking things stacked on top of each other vertically.

Do you live in a safe area where the homes are in a good location?

Yup . The sirens are worse than the tornadoes . Today the radio is nothing but tornado warnings . I'm about 12 miles north of a tornado that hit 5 minutes ago in Tarrant county , TX .

I believe those sirens are whelens in attack/wail mode. Some states use attack instead of alert for tornadoes

@halomaniac07 No, it was just a rotating wall cloud when it got near my home, but a few miles west it did touch down.

That’s the neat part: this wasn’t at night. This was at like 7pm at latest. The sun wasn’t even completely set yet.

Holy crap, you guys have it good, where I live the tornado siren is the same siren that they use for air raids! And it's way scarier than this.
