Scatter Diagram and Linear Regression on the TI 83/84 Calculator 

When using LinReg, after you enter the two lists, add another comma followed by Y1, and the equation will be placed into Y=. To add Y1, go to Vars > Y Vars > Function, and then choose Y1.

I'm on yt because my text is a bit weak explaining correlations and I didn't know how to do them in my TI-84. This was so helpful. Not just the steps, but also the explanation that the coefficient of variation is the percent of variability in the y value that can be accounted for in the x variable. It seems like the unifying concept, but my book didn't touch on it.

**I meant don't manually type the EQUATION into 'Y1'.** On the new TI-84 operating system, it gives you a menu where you fill in the blanks with L1, L2 (default), and you need to type Y1 using the VARS > Y-VARS > Function... > 1: Y1 menus in order to automatically get the equation put into Y1 for you.

@9:00 - DO NOT manually type in the data, unless your teacher is perfectly happy for a rounded version. If you want the exact values to be plugged in automatically, so that you get exact answers, type in the 'LinReg(...)' command, then 'L1,L2,' At the end, you want a third argument: where to store the function. Go to (next to 'Clear') VARS > Y-VARS > Function... > 1: Y1. Hit Enter after the three arguments, and you will not need to plug in the equation manually.

we learned this in class, but i have a problem that you may be able to help me with. i have entered all data up until this point. when i am in the "y=" and go to y-vars>funtion, only "y1, y2, etc." appear rather than the actual equation for y1, y2, etc. as it did in the example our professor gave us. the problem is when i would enter just "y..." in my y= menu, then try to do anything, it would tell me the error lies in the lack of a equation after "y=Y1" is there any way to remedy this?
