That statement from 1:11:00, shows the tunnel vision of many chess players, which Magnus calls "so optimistic it becomes delusional". Magnus proved it's literally the opposite of what's said here: he steam rolled over Alireza here and proved he is the GOAT in all time controls.

@@yefer-gz5vu It shows why is Magnus such a dominant player - his head is screwed the right way. His evaluations and outlook on odds and circumstances are far more realistic than Alireza's or Hikaru's, and I don't wan't even mention completely delusional Mr Niemann. That stability of vision helps Magnus trust in himself, and be positive and recognise instabilities and delusional streaks in his opponents. He can do it in real time, while others only after a great defeat (like Alireza suffered here), which partly "resets" their delusions. But they will soon start doing the same again.

This just shows how psychological chess can be. The scores in this tournament were wild and made no sense. Hans beating So and Giri, then losing by like 12 PTS to Hikaru?? Alireza beating Hikaru by like 5 but then losing by 16 to Magnus????? I mean, I'm not a procedure guy anyway, but this shows how idiotic that mindset is. Ratings mean very little if you're not mentally and physically prepared.

Yeah it's always a matter of who's playing his best and who's not. Well obviously rating makes a huge factor as well because even tho magnus sometimes playing at his low he can still fight and it's too hard to beat him obviously if you are much lower rated than him. The thing is magnus A game is beyond everyone like no one can contest it when he is playing at his best. Unlike to everyone else, when someone is playing at their A game, magnus can still contest or even other player can still contest unlike with magnus when he is at his best. Again, chess is a mind game so psychological exist whether you agree or not it is definitely a psychological game.
