EDIT: The buzz in this video during some of the playing was due to a lack of a power conditioner.
Hey everyone! Today we're finally reviewing my Schecter Corsair semi-hollow bass. This thing came out of left field and shocked a seemingly stagnant semi-hollow market. Featuring some killer passive EMG pickups and a two band preamp, is this the best semi-hollow out there? Let's find out!
Big thanks to Dom @ ThirdFloorGuitars for setting up my instruments. You can find him at www.thirdfloorguitars.com

Quick update on my Schecter Corsair Purchase...Lobster was 100% right about everything. And I mean Everything. I love the Bass. It sounds and plays amazing. Probably the most versatile Semi Hollow Bass out there, which is what Lobster said, and thats what caught my eye, and thats why I own the Bass. Thanks Lobster, I never would have thought, but it's bad ass, I'm gonna have years of fun because of your video!!! I owe you a Beer.

Thanks low end lobster, you tipped the scales for me. I just pulled the trigger on a brand new Schecter Corsair bass expecting it in about 5 days. I was comparing the Schecter corsair, the Aria pro tab classic, and the Warwick star bass. I played one of the German made Warwick star bases a few years ago and loved it but can't warm up to the China Warwick's. The Aria tab classic is nice but I can't live with one Volume One tone and a pickup selector, however, would like to see you do a review on one. So thanks again and to one of your commenters who bought a Corsair and backed up everything you said about the bass. Enjoy your vids keep up the great work.

I like the more ‘vintage’ tone of the Jack Casady. The Schecter is one helluva instrument mind!
@LowEndLobster
@LowEndLobster 4 года назад
Indeed. The Schecter, though great, isn't a keeper for me. The JC I have has been mine for almost a decade, and has personal value to me hehe. However, if I were looking between them nowadays and had to choose one, I'd probably end up with the Schecter. The bridge screws pulling out of the body was a major issue, even mine started to have it before Dom fixed it and installed the hipshot bridge.

I hear the Warwick Starbass is pretty versatile, according to Leeland Skylar. These hollow bodies are old beauties I think they are meant to be played really. I love basses that are either acoustic, semi or hollow, I practice on my Fender Acoustic pretty much all the time, the only downside is the thickness.Then when I play electric everything just feels much easier, because it is.

What's up Crawdaddy? I like this bass. I like the knobs and the truss rod cover is fine, plus it's got a cool fleur de lis logo. I was relieved to see the bridge is not a 3 point bridge that everybody complains about.

Never seen this bass before, but I love it! Wish I had a need for a 4-string, I would snap one up in a second. Only thing I don't like is the headstock, its more in keeping with a metal-style guitar than a semi-hollow "vintage" looking bass.

I was super skeptical going in that the Corsair could win me over - it sounded a little too electric in the first look video and versatility is not something I care much about in the context of a semi-hollow. But hearing the two side-by-side and I think I actually prefer the sound of the Corsair. Great video!

The problem with the 3-point Gibson-style bridge (anchor pull-out) is not so much that it's a dumb design-it is-but rather that many users don't know how to adjust the relative heights of the tiny front support and the larger back/side supports. Adjust them the wrong way and you get too much of a vertical force vector on the back/side supports and they can want to lift off the top. Adjust them the right way, and most of the force is along the string line and the anchors stay right where they are. Correct adjustment, unfortunately, can be a bit counter-intuitive so you see lots of anchors hauled out. You can try to solve the problem with glue and so on, but correct adjustment-or a really nice Hipshot replacement-is the real solution. [Always enjoy your work, my friend. I'm keeping my Jack Cassidy, though. For years I had the Jack-recommended Blue Steel strings on it, but recently went to D'Addario black tapewounds to very good effect.]

I've been looking to buy a bass to accompany my Ibanez AS-73 semi-hollow guitar in my home studio, and I've gone from eyeballing the Guild Starfire I ($599) to the Jack Casady ($799) to this ($999). You owe me a beer! Just kidding, but as a first comment; Epic channel with really smooth groove and properly taking into consideration EVERYTHING one might wonder (nor wouldn't have even thought about) if it wasn't for Dr. Zoidberg's right claw. Thanks for awesome the reviews and giving a lot of insight buying my first bass.

I commented on this the other day, but I must have screwed it up....not the 1st time..but... Anyway.. I think we talked about this one before?? I agree, Schecter does seem to be "stepping" up their stuff. I think it looks like, if you were looking to get hollow/or semi hollow bass, You can't really go wrong. It is lucky that they don't hold their value, makes getting a used one well worth it. New, is really steep for a bass that looses a couple to few hundred dollars as soon as it leaves the store. But I'm a person that feels "buy an instrument because it feels good to you, not your peers" and it looks like this bass is a player/workhorse. I don't know why I thought I need to say all of this. I think it was just fun pushing buttons and making words. Now that I've done that I think I will slowly back up into the shadows. Cheers and thank you for sharing.
@LowEndLobster
@LowEndLobster 4 года назад
Dude comments have been randomly disappearing, it's definitely not you. Schecters have gotten better with their residuals, and there's usually a little flexibility with certain vendors. This bass is definitely a workhorse like you said. The neck is super easy to play, makes it a pleasure to mess with. Thanks for your great comment my friend :)

@LowEndLobster
@LowEndLobster 4 года назад
Hehehe, it's a tough choice! The Schecter is more versatile and doesn't need a new bridge. The hipshot upgrade for the Epi is a must. Tonally, the Epi doesn't have as wide of a tonal palette, but it does what it does well. If I were shopping for a hollowbody now and didn't have both, I'd get the Schecter IMO. That being said, I love my JC.

Hi Michael! I don't think there's any hipshots for this model as it's using a tune-o-matic style two piece bridge. There may be some aftermarket options out there, but IMO not as big of a deal here as I wasn't seeing the same issues like I saw with the stock Jack Casady bridge, where the three point bridge slowly gets ripped out of the body over time.
