Your video editing is fantastic. Great shots, lighting, mood, I even loved the sound effects. It was very relaxing and informative. I think it would be a step better with a voice over instead of the text, but I realize that's a lot more work.
Thanks for recognizing the behind the scenes work, it's a lot for just little me 😅 I'm always thrilled to hear my videos are helpful and informative and provide a few minutes of relaxation! Your encouraging words are very much appreciated 🙏 Will certainly try to improve other aspects over time 😄
This is the second of your videos that I have watched (the first was the White Nights Neva palette) and I have to say that the quality of the shooting, color grading and editing is absolutely beautiful. The color blends and sketches are also beautiful. Thank you so much for providing such quality content.
Erick, thank you, also, so much for such a quality comment. 🤣It's very sweet of you to take the time to write. I very much appreciate it. All the best 🤗
Thank you for the video- loved all of your mixes! I got that palette a few weeks ago and played a little bit with it. I miss my Nickel Azo Yellow in it - like you said in the video description. But overall I'm very happy with the set!
I just ordered mine at a great price on Jackson’s. Can’t wait to get it. I have another “Special Edition” set that I love ❤and some of the super granulating colors too! Schmincke is one of my top brands! Keep making these “Special Edition” curated sets. They’re great!
I have that palette size from other Schmincke releases and I've managed 32 half pans without the insert ;-) Mine has the two flat mixing wells...you are right, that ridged lid is odd. If this was the ULTIMATE mixing set, then I'm surprised they didn't put full pans in lol. I find this to be a very idiosyncratic/personal palette for one artist's style; maybe fun to play with, but not one I'd line up for.
Every time I use this palette - the sharp edge still annoys me! There are many recent releases from Schmincke with the same problem. I hope they will address this in future.
I’ve recently ordered this set in a Black Friday sale and have yet to enjoy swatching and then getting to know the palette. This has been the perfect teaser, I really enjoyed your process thank you
Nice swatching! Putting washi tape on sharp edges help. PS, I did a light fastness test on both PR 202 and PR122 in several watercolor brands, nearly 8 months in south facing window during longest warmest days of the year. PR202 is not more light-fast than PR122. In fact, my Schmincke Purple Magenta PR122 didn't fade. The PR202 faded slightly.
Thanks Renee, that's very interesting. The official Schmincke brochure shows PR202 lighfast rating is higher than PR122. I personally experienced fading on PR122 when used in mixes but not PR202 and both are from Schmincke. I fully believe what you're saying and thankful you made me aware of your experience. I wonder is it batch, paper or water related. That being said, Ireland isn't a sunny place at all 😭. Either way, our own lightfast results matter the most, as they are 100% applicable to our unique enviroments. Thanks also for the washi tape suggestion, it needs something! 🤗
@@Papertude What you say is true. I also have the Official Schmincke Brochure. But I simply do not trust their ratings that much anymore. I do not trust the ASTM findings. For instance, Schmincke rates their Saturn red ( PO64-Benzimidazolone Orange) as good lightfastness. But others test it including myself to find it fades dramatically within a few weeks. Almost as bad as Alizarin Crimson (PR83). I have found that some brands of PR122 fades more within the 1st 3 months than others. Same with PR202. I tested all my brands of PR122. Also several PR202. Same with Prussian Blue, (ferric ferrocyanide/iron, PB27). It is also the timing and saturation level. Some pigments will vanish when you mix with any paint containing zinc. Some pigments will fade some within a few weeks but then the fading totally stops. Others will not fade for several months but then will suddenly fade dramatically. Its why I recommend watching actual people on RU-vid who put their samples in real sunlight for at least 8 months to a year. Love your videos! I hope to see more.
@Renee L. Marks I was talking with a few artist friends about PR202 and seems they've had very varied experiences across different brands, same also applies to PR122. Half considering to do some water tests here. Thanks for the heads up re Saturn Red, PO64. I'm aware it fades but wasn't aware how severe it might be. I'll be wary of it. Thanks Renee for taking the time to share all the useful info.
Using Turner's Yellow as the only yellow in a mixing set is too bizzare. I really love this pigment, especially in pure, but this one is too complicated as a color for mixes, also it's non-transperent character sometimes is a problem for making "luminous" yellow shades. A strange choise I believe. But other colors in a set are very useful. Quinacridone Magenta is my big love! This paint was gone and I tried other Schmincke's pinks but I can't forget this lovely magenta! It makes such interesting and delicate mixes with greens. Thank you for this beautiful meditative video!
You need to make many more RU-vid videos …please. It’s so nice to to have nothing but Zen moments watching your documentary videos on your supplies and work. I’d love to see you have one on your work. The ones I’ve seen from your sketchbook are stunning. ❤️
Hey Judy, news flash lol! I'm about to publish a supply haul this evening. When you see me wearing a jumper in the video you'll realise how backlogged I am! Thanks for the encouragement ❤🤗
Beautiful and relaxing ,some very surprising mixing, I'm finding how useful potters pink is for mixing 💗. Actually I have a few of these pigments already so I really just need 4 to make that same set. To bad the tin has no rolled edges ,these sets can be expensive and they should have made more of an effort in my opinion Have a creative weekend, love your videos Heather
You are the reason I'm getting this for Christmas 😂 I would have never known but now I'm so excited to try out all the colours and mix. Thank you and happy holidays! 💕
It's lovely to hear you found something you like! This is a great set, I enjoyed it myself very much. Hope you have a lot of fun with it. Have a wonderful holiday season! 🤗
Schmincke transparent orange is ( I think ) the nicest orange you can get. Much prefer the warmer Turner’s yellow to the staple lemon you always get. Lovely video thank you x
@@Papertude I know what you mean. I've just (like just a few days ago) learned how to edit videos, and I can see the upcoming headaches I'll have in the future lol!
Thanks for this. I look forward to some mixing, as you describe in the subtitles. I have all the colours as tubes, so I will try some mixes. It is strange that an "ultimate" mixing palette does not have any earth tones. I miss burnt sienna or yellow ochre, or raw umber to get those warm dark darks that perylene green does not reach. I read that this palette was a collaboration with an artist. Perhaps this is good for florals...but for anyone doing urban landscapes, natural environments or animals, there are several shades missing. By the way, try using some black electric insulation tape on the shap edges. They will feel smooth and will give you a lot of extra protection.
I was just trying some Washi tape but found it a little thin. The electric insulation tape should be thicker - great great idea. I wonder can I get some in flower patterns to maintain the aesthetic 🤣 I really wanted this for the tin as it's nice and compact! The naming of the palette is misleading, many people will be drawn in - thankfully it's a good selection of colours as a premade palette with very few repeats in other Schmincke palettes. 🤗
@@Papertude Hi, thanks for your reply. Sadly, electric insulation tape comes only in black, white, 🔵 and 🔴 (perhaps 🟡) as these are important for electricians. I use black, so it is hardly noticeable in the palette. I love this square format, as you can fit so many colours without the insert. I look forward to see some of your floral patterns. These colours surely get fantastic hues for flowers!
@@Papertude PS: I really like your die cuts for the tags. Would you mind sharing which die cuts you used? I would also like tomsort out my colours using a similar system.
I'm in the process of making a short video showing my favourite tags - this one and others not yet seen together in one video. Will also show the equiments and some tips how to keep the cost down. Should be in the next few days
Awesome! I'm new to your channel/second video viewed. And, I'm enjoying it immensely. In my opinion, it is perfection in terms of reviewing pallets and providing pigment information. Your understanding of color theory appears impeccable. Although I won't purchase this set, I thought the mix resulting from Turner's yellow and Potter's pink was extremely nice. 🤎💚🤎💚🤎💚🤎
Wow... a NZ collab w/c set! Being a Kiwi, I was excited for a hot minute….and having never heard of Woodruffe, i rushed to take a quick look at his website to see what I was missing out on… But… I mean, well… i guess I can say the colours he uses are nice and wouldn’t look at all out of place front and centre stuck with a magnet to his proud mum’s fridge. 🤔 I guess I don’t understand the intricacies of abstract squiggles a kindergartener could do and appreciate it as high art…
Ha ha ha ...Thank you! You so perfectly made me visualise your story ... I am in stitches of laughter here 🤣 ... the world needs more happiness and funny comments like yours 🤣🤣 I'd say his work is whimsical, joyful and upbeat. I like his shirts though ... (which feature his art) 🎨🖌️👕
I just purchased this one on Jackson’s. I got it for $57! (With a few other small things and the economy shipping was FREE?..I’m in no hurry…that’s fine!) Amazon price for this one was $88. BUT Amazon has a 12 color half pan set (typical colors) for $67! A very good deal. For me, I have enough of the standard colors and wanted some a bit outside of those and this fills the bill. Thanks for reviewing this! I have another set of a Special Edition set of Schmincke and some of the super-granulating and I love the brand! p.s. I did use your link to go to Jackson’s but Im not sure it worked…bc I had to do a search to find this set. And on Amazon, your link took me to a Canson paper product. So you might want to check your links. I like to give credit where I can, but sometimes the links don’t work for me. Sorry.
Thanks Nancy! It doesnt seem to have worked, but no worries, the thought counts and I aprreciate it! I double checked the links and they're ok. As there are several items listed, I group each with links to popular providers. The palette linkes are above the canson ones. Happy Painting and have fun when you get it! 🎨 🤗
@@Papertude 😂 Yeah, his suits/shirts are kinda cool, I do like them…. Tho I’d still frown if a groom wore it for theirwedding! OMG… I thought I was still young and hip, but nope… I’ve definitely turned into that grumpy old (wo)man yelling at kids to “keep off my lawn!” 😂😂😂 Oh no! 🤭😝
I love that they look less vibrant but more muted. It gives a more vintage and a more realistic look to paintings which I love! I wish my Rembrandt looked like that.
For my swatching videos I use a colour calibrated pipeline, so you should be seeing them quite faithfully. And yes, this palette certainly can deliver a really realistic look. I already hit the pan on several colours. 😊
To me, this is a very strange color selection. The first thing that crosses my mind is why have two pinks and a violet in a set of only nine colors? It's pretty, in an Easter egg kind of way, but I'm not sure how "ultimate" it is. Most of the mixes have a pink vibe going for them, so maybe it's interesting for botanicals.
Hi! Love your videos! They bring me much peace and joy. Would you mind if I ask where do you get those super cute watercolor paper tags you use for swatching colors? Or do you make them yourself? If so, would you please consider showing how do you make them? Thank you so much and congratulations for such an amazing content. 😊
Hi Fabricius! Thank you for you super sweet comment 🤗 I make the little tags myself. People are interested in how, so I'll share a quick video and links with everything required and some other variations on the tags I love! Should be up in the next few days. Have a nice day!
Hi Fabricius ... so, without much sleep ... the TAG video is now up ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kJWYp9n5N_c.html Hope you and others enjoy! 🤗
Thank you! 🤗 Potters Pink is such a useful colour, you can almost mix with anything. I love it, it gives me so many surprises! It adds texture and mutes down without shifting the hue a lot. Have fun mixing! 🎨🖌️
Thank you! 😊 There's a lot of interest in these! I made them myself using a metal die and cutting machine and use up watercolour paper offcuts. Will share a how-to video soon.
the granulation are very interesting and pretty in some colors and mixtures ... I like your artworks at the end ... just a little bit color is sometimes enough :) I wish I could drawing like you ...
This was my first video of yours. I've subscribed, rung the bell for all notifications and smashed the like button. Now I'm going to your channel page ...
Hello from Australia 🇦🇺 Please may I ask where you are from? I love your taste in art products and your work is divine. May I also ask where you get your little swatch cards from? Thank you for a lovely video.
I published a video directly after this one of how I make the swatch tags as many people were interested. Check my channel! Cheers from Ireland, glad your enjoying my content 🤗
It looked like the pans were too small for the palette and wouldn't be able to click in tight or was it camera angle? Just found you and have subscribed lovely and relaxing
Hi Sue! The pans fit perfectly in the metal slots and they're held firmly once you clip them in. Maybe what you noticed is there is a 6mm gap between the rows by design. Thanks for subbing and saying hi! 🤗
This brand is sooo expensive here in Brasil, for the price that package shouldn't hurt the user, I think the lid should be flat inside!!!! It is you that do the sample card? I just saw they in your videos!!! Can you do a art colection , storage tour?
Yeeeeah! Their black palettes are rolled. Painting shouldnt be an extreme activity 🤣 I make the little swatch cards myself using a metal die and cutting machine. I'll share a how-to video in future as many are asking. I'll consider an art collection video too, or add some shots here and there in other videos. 🤗
Your videos are always lovely and relaxing. All of the swatches were amazing and helped me look at some of these colors in a new way. Thank you for sharing. Also, where do you buy those swatch cards? I love that shape and it would be handy to link them together.
Hey Ms RocketScience! 😄 I made the little swatch cards using a metal die and a cutting machine. A good way to use up leftover paper offcuts. Will feature it in a future how-to video. Thanks for the kind comments 🤗🤗 All the best!
Yes Megan, I agree with you, they're close in hue but given the very different properties (ie Cobalt Azure is Granulating, tinting strength differences) they have quite different behaviour. Happy painting and have fun! 🤗🎨
This is a great and soothing video. I have this set and love it. I really with you'd show the mixing part so that we can see how much you are blending before putting paint to paper. I'm wondering if your first swipes are of the single color or already mixed? Can you tell more about that. Thanks.
Hey Lori! Thanks! I love the colours in this set myself. The first swipe is already mixed with a small proportion of the second, then gradually increasing the second colour in each dip. I sped up time between each stroke but didn't show the dipping ... thinking people might get bored! 😊
Lovely video, but I have a tip how to install the pans. You don’t put them in like this, you need to bend the metal bar inwards, and then press the pans in. This way this little clip at the top of the metal bar grabs the pan and they really click in and are arrested, so that they cannot move any more. Btw, which paper did you use for the swatching card?
Thanks - I'm aware of how the clips work. I skip some things (like unwrapping, securing pans, rinsing etc) for videos, otherwise it's too laborious. My supplies are listed and linked in the description, if not discontinued.
You can't get these beauties ... you have to make them! 💪😄 I make them myself using a metal die and cutting machine. Will make a quick how-to video soon along with some other tag varieties.
Such a nice video! love the colours in this set! I do not yet own a set of schmincke paints but would love to, do you think this would be a good first set or should i maybe get the "normal" 12 or 24 set?
Hi Ellinor! IMO This mixing set wouldnt be a good first set unless matched with a core mixing set at least from some brand. Schinke's 24 would be a very decent start and will have convenience colours. 12 is adequate but may be challenging if you're not into mixing. 12 may also be time consuming to get what you want, if you are a beginner it might put you off. This mixing set would be a good addition to either. Hope my perspective helps. Happy painting 🎨 🤗
Wow, this is the very FIRST time for me to receive a "Super Thanks!" You are ever so kind and I very much appreciate it. Thank you for the encouragement for my little channel! 🤗🤗🤗 Grazie mille!
Lol - or if I get it wrong, I might make it sharper! Thinking about the whole "nail" subject ... probably if I dribbled some clear nail polish along the edge it could solve the problem nicely! ❤🤗
Very beautiful but definitely not an original split primary. I looked through the description for the swatching tags that you use but couldn't find any info about them. Could you please let me know where you get them? It's a great way to keep mixes with the palette or just for fun color inspiration. Have a wonderful day and thanks for reviewing these.
Thanks Danielle! I haven't included the link as I use several. I am making a short how-to video so watercolour folks will have all the relevant info in one place. In fact, the tag I use here isn't the most practical one and I want to share other options together so folks can make a best decision. Will be in the next few days! 🤗
Hi Danielle ... my latest video ... about the tags is up with all the links. You might enjoy! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kJWYp9n5N_c.html 🤗
It was in the context of talking about the sharp unrolled edge. If you're holding the palette in a plein air setting it's not ideal. Apart from that, the size is great for travel. Thanks for watching and have a nice day!
Thanks! I will put the machine, different types of dies, how-to and tips all in one place in an upcoming short video. Won't be too long! Update: Recording it as I type! Likely next few days
O wow, this set is só pretty, I love the colors! I think I need this, but I'm just a beginner and already have two small Van Gogh sets, two small Studiolight sets, one small Derwent set (but I don't like that one) ánd a medium Finetec set 🤭 So maybe it's a bit too much to buy another set, which is pricey too 😉 Also love your artwork at the end and the music is just só relaxing. Subscribed immediately 😊
Fortunately the higher end brands such as schmincke sell open stock so you never have to buy a full set. You can just supplement your existing paint. You likely have at least one phthalocyanine blue already, so don’t get one of those, but look for the things which are further from what you already have but not awkward. The perylyn green, potters pink and transparent orange are very useful and quite easy/fun to work with, for example. But the turners yellow can be harder as it is quite dominant.
I only just saw your lovely message now after the busy Christmas! Thanks for subscribing! Its definitely worth looking into some artist quality colours like Schmincke and Daniel Smith if you find yourself liking the medium. All colours are available individually if you want to pick and choose. For me, it was eye opening when I started using better materials - I truly started to enjoy! ❤🤗 Have Fun!
Oh my gosh that read is stunning I would have never imagined from that palette! I am was obsessed with Sennelier and have n=been gathering these one by one $ permitting… Thank you for your video, and perspective the paper and close up view is so helpful.
Looks like great brand, but I think student level pigments are not so far from this. I have Winsor Newton Cotman, it’s so close to Winsor Newton professional. Also this one and Schminke academie so close too. Why give that more money? Only Daniel Smith paints look significantly more vibrant then student level paints, but price of it also significantly vibrant 😅
Lol, I never compared along this dimension before! Thanks for making me see a new angle. I like Daniel Smith, they have many colours I do find irreplaceable. 🤗
@@sueallen952 I didn’t say Cotman like Schmincke. I said Cotman close to w&n professional and Schmincke academy close to Schmincke horadam. Also all these pigments are different. Some artists can prefer w&n to Schmincke.
Well. First of all Horadam gives you ten times as many colours to choose from; not just the standard 24. That could be one reason. All the new colours coming out and special editions are the artist's grade, that would be another reason. Fore examplle, none of the colours in this set are available in the student grade.I agree the Akademie paints are really, really good, but the higher grade paints *are* different. For some people, myself included, that's going to be worth spending a little extra money; they're not that much more expensive where I live.
I have to give so much attention to not missing the words, shown in white, even, that I can't watch properly what is on the screen with the paints and mixing. Very disappointing! Sorry. I hope you have something better on your channel, somewhere!
Hmm definitely not a fan of the colour choice for this set. For an 'ultimate mixing set' it leaves a lot to be desired. But the tin is lovely, I hope they sell empty ones with this design!
The name is on the cheeky side! I was first drawn to this set because of the tin! 🤣 If they did a version with the edge rolled I'd definitely get some empties. 🎨 🤗
Nickel Azo Yellow (PY150) is a must if you want the CMY triad (with the existing Quinacridone Magenta and Phthalo Sapphire Blue) to work. If you don't mind going cross brand, Daniel Smith's Hansa Yellow Medium (PY97) would be even better than PY150. This gives a full balanced colour wheel to build on. The rest depends on the subject matter. That's part of the charm of a palette with some available space. I personally will turn this into an urban sketching palette as I bought this for the compact tin size. So, Indian Red, Raw Umber and Burnt Sienna will definitely make their way in, along with a couple of convenience shadows.
This one was around $60 but sold out on most large sites. I updated links in the description to include a similar "Exceptional Palette" - they just released it and it follows the "Ultimate" set. Alternatively, as the colors aren't limited edition, they can be bought separately. Hope that helps 🤗
