For those of us who have regular family that we live with, you MUST take that nap during the day to be able to stay up with your family until the 11:00 news is over. LOL! Those are good naps though! Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@misshoodsschoolbuslife1871 are you allowed to take the bus with you in between your runs or do you have to use your car after runs do you take field trips
@@brianpatrickreddington1750 I am not allowed to take my bus home with me. I can just imagine the look on the faces of my neighbors with that big yellow bus parked in the driveway! Lol! I can sign up to drive field trips but I don't because there are other drivers who really need the extra money for their families. Good questions and thanks for watching!

When I had a second job, I went home to sleep in between routes. I don’t work a second job now and do the same things you do, but also do my daily walking which saves me time at the end of the day.
At first it was weird going from that big ole steering wheel to my SMART steering wheel. There are many similarities though. People are always pulling out in front of me in my SMART car. They figure, "how much damage can THAT car do?" So I'm used to that from the school bus because EVERYBODY pulls out in front of a school bus. Who wants to be stuck behind that STOP sign every 1000 feet. LOL! It is amazing to me that when I'm in my SMART car, I NEVER feel like I'm in a teeny, tiny car. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Amazing video Ms.Hood its funny that this was the theme of the video because I was going to ask in the last video if you would do a video of that you do in between driving. Don't want so sound like a copy cat but my birthday is April 3. Wondering if you could mention me in a video.
Wyatt, I'm so sorry I did not see this comment until today. I MISSED your birthday. Happy Belated Birthday and remind me next year so we can celebrate together. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I've got a busy toddler, so sometimes I take him to playgrounds or I take him on playdates. Sometimes we go to the grocery store and he rides in the fun carts. When I was pregnant with my son, there were times I slept the entire time between my morning and afternoon run. But most of the time, I just chill at home.
Wow! I cannot imagine working this job and being pregnant. I have a hard enough time just getting through the day. I have so much admiration for you and what you are doing. Keep up the good work and thanks for being a school bus driver.
Bus 26, in my county we are not allowed to do that. We must park our bus at the compound. If we want to stay at the compound until our afternoon run, we are able to do that. I don't know if you've seen my video of my compound but it is a fabulous to hang around. Thanks for watching!
Whoa! No trainer. Man, that's tough BUT you can do it. The children are your 'cargo" and you will learn how to manage your "cargo" the same way you learned with your Big Rig. Join a bus driver group and you will receive TONS of help and advice. Keep watching this channel and from time to time I like to throw in a little advice. Thanks for watching!
I’ll be honest most of the time I go back to sleep I don’t always sleep well at night so the 4 hours of free time between runs helps if I’m extra tired or ill relax and watch tv. If I need to run errands I will or depending on the schedule if the kids have a half day the drivers and I will go for breakfast
I'm sorry you don't sleep well, JD. Bus drivers have such a tough schedule. I have struggled with it myself. Rising at 4:30 a.m. and finished with half of your workday at 9:00 a.m. is disruptive to a normal sleep cycle. I'm glad you're figuring out what works. Thanks for watching!
@@misshoodsschoolbuslife1871 no worries the job is worth the hectic sleep schedule! ☺️ I’ve sent a few of my driver friends over to your channel we all just adore you!
I usually go grab something to eat and then stick around the yard. I sign up for a lot of field trips. Occasionally I will shop, or work in my office at the church.
Do you have to clock out of work before you leave work to do all of your fun things? Have you made plans never with your a few of your bus drivers buddies to get breakfast after your morning run?
Yes. I clock in before driving and clock out after I'm finished driving for the morning and afternoon runs. I have had breakfast with a few drivers but most of the time I'm meeting my family for some precious family time.
Miss Hood's School Bus Life that’s must be nice to meet some of your family during your day!...it must help when you have a make dinner after you can just go sight home and start making dinner no need for shopping after work!
We have a bus compound where our buses are locked inside a fenced in yard. No way would they EVER park our school buses at Walmart. In fact, we're not allowed to even drive into a Walmart parking lot. Thanks for watching!
I'd like to learn more about how school bus drivers get paid. Do you get paid hourly for only the hours you work or are you paid a salary? I am persuing becoming a school bus driver to cater to my childrens school schedules and maybe even drive for the school they attend. Any info would be appreciated. Thank You
I’m thinking about being a school bus driver because I love being a mom & I enjoy children. I also have back trouble. For some reason, riding (driving) is the only place my back feels good. I think it’s the vibration of the engine and warm seat that eases my back. So it’s a great combo for me. It’d be great to have time free to get to the dr.
In my town where I drive, we transport all grade levels including Early Childhood. I have 4 runs in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. I only drive Early Childhood in the morning.
Back in the 50s 60s and 70s and eighties actually 1 bus driver each week had run shuttle bus for gym class and lunches between the schools. Believe this they had three school buildings one gym and one lunch room. So they kept one bus hopping roughly 10 hours a day because it had to run during school and run its regular routes. And then twice a month there was one driver that would have to run field trips. And I really don't know what my grandma did because I went to a totally different School. So I have no idea it's schedule. I would guess she worked in the beauty shop. Now that they're both gone I wish I'd asked that question. I do know when I was out of school because our school was out during Holy Week we would go to church between her school runs. Have a great day in Miss Hood's retirement life
A transit bus driver never gets to go to the grocery store. At each end of the route, he or she only have 5-20 minutes before going the other way. The only thing he or she has is Doritos, a coffee, and a Coke at each end.
Sanya, it sounds like a transit driver works very hard the entire day. Have you thought about becoming a school bus driver? Then you would have a nice break in the middle of the day. Think about it.
It's been so long ago, Duke. I can't remember. Lol!! Just kidding. This year, when school actually starts I will complete my morning run at 9:00 and will return to the compound at 1:30. That's a nice 4.5 hour break. Thanks for watching!
I am paid for the actual driving hours plus 30 minutes for pre-tripping the bus. A time clock is used to guarantee I'm at work each day for the hours I have contracted. Great question! Thanks for watching.
Where I work, we have what is called, "An Escrow Account." About 30% of my check is held back throughout the school year. That money is sent to me during the summer months. Some folks like it deposited in their bank accounts every other week, just like a paycheck. I prefer getting the lump sum at the end of June and I allocate it for myself during the summer. It's been like a savings account to me because I use it to purchase items without using credit. For example, two years ago I bought my new washing machine with it. It works very well for me.
