[Sarah] For me, I wanted a program that
would bring me closer to what the industry actually requires
and as of now, it's things like web series and it's motion capture,
and it's video games so I wanted something that would take it beyond just knowing how to act.
[music]
[Anna] Acting for Media is a two year diploma and our program offers skills for young actors to learn TV and film as well as voiceover and animation, narration, we're really interested in making these the future film makers of Canada.
[Jamie] All our faculty is in the industry right now, so they know what to work on, what to change, what we need to know or what they wish they knew when they were in school.
[Anna] The students can expect a lot of hands on studio work they're always up on their feet, they're always acting, they're always learning. The students in our program are coming out prepared for all the new technology.
[Ivan Sherry] The importance of teaching performance capture cannot be understated, virtual reality is not around the corner anymore, virtual reality is here. And the massive scale of video games and performance capture in film everybody is aware of now. There's lots of work in this industry, it's only going to become greater. And it's fantastic that George Brown has taken a lead role in teaching our students this material.
[Jamie] We're very lucky at George Brown with our equipment and facilities, we have a bunch of state of the art equipment, it's all new. We get to work with incredible light and sound equipment, props.
[Sarah] You also have monitors, so instead of all crowding around and watching on a tiny camera screen, we have a huge monitor that we can play back off of.
[Jamie] The network here at the George Brown media program is incredible. We all are open to sharing our ideas with each other.
[Sarah] I actually just collaborated with one of the filmmaking students this last Sunday. He was filming a short film for one of his classes and I got to play a part in it, which I was very excited about. It's really inspiring to see other people in their craft and how passionate they are. It just makes me excited for what I do.
