I thought I'd seen a lot of know-it-alls on various car forums (especially FT86Club)... but to actually see people on here telling Schroth that they are installing their harnesses wrong?! Wow...! Suppose they'll be telling Ferrari how to build cars next.
To all the people talking about harness bars, roll cages typically have their harness bars integrated as that center bar. You do not have to have a harness bar mounted to the roll cage if the roll cage has its own bar built in for that purpose since the built in bar is much more secure than a harness bar. The built in bar is better than the harness bar, which is more of a temp-fix for people who have no roll cages or roll cages without horizontal center bars. However, the statement "no harness bar= no harness" doesn't apply here. The point of the harness bar is to provide an anchoring point at the correct height instead of the vehicle floor for to prevent spinal compression. the roll cage does the same. It really doesn't matter as long the bar is strong and placed at the correct height. Though granted, having that bar at a slightly higher height would be safer, because for harnesses, the belt is supposed to be either parallel with the floor or angled upwards towards the rear to prevent spinal compression in an accident.

I would love to see the best way to determine the correct length. I can follow the wrapping instructions, but it did take a few tries to get the length correct. I'm sure it's very simple, but please add that in the next time you update this video.
wow, cant belive idiots in here saying you need a HARNESS bar LOL, a harness bar is for the little wannabees who dont have a real roll cage, and its prefered to mount to the actual cage than the body of the car so that you dont get your spine compressed in the event if a accident. imagin if the car breaks apart and the floor pan goes with it that your harness is attached too. the roll cage is going to the most sturdy part of the car and also the part that is not going to move much in a accident. the idiots commenting about how this is wrong coudnt be farther from the turth, truth is most people dont wrap there harness right or mount them correctly, this is actually one of the vidios that shows you the right way.
you need at least a harness bar to mount your belts to or a mounting point that will be at shoulder height. if you mount your belts anywhere below that in an accident it can compress your spine and cause serious spinal damage.

When i crashed my 92' miata my harness saved me from breaking my face on the steering wheel.The airbag broke my tooth caused a concussion and burn my face a little. Without the airbag i would have walked away but since i still hadn't gotten around to taking it out i got knocked out and woke up in the hospital.The harness is enough to save your life the airbag just made things worse in my case.
he did it right. that one bar is the harness bar, and it's weld/integrated to the roll cage. most harness bars are for show, and not safety. only time a harness bar would be okay is for solo(autocross) and use it with a good harness. why harness bar get a bad name is because people will use them on the streets with a 4 point harness. which is not good. in a crash you can submarine under the lap belt, also your shoulders will be held up right at the same causing your neck to be thrown front and then back. can you say head bangers ball. safety works as a system. schroth and hms (one of the main leaders in motors sports) know what they are doing. if you are going to buy a harness bar at least make sure it's a good one, or have a race shop build you one. also use good stuff (schroth, pyrotect,simpson, cobra,sparco,corbeau, etc.) and stay away from the show/stance ebay crap. (braum,nrg,ciphar auto, etc).

yep he can but those are mainly for looks. this is the right way to build a true w2w track car. only time I say a harness bar is okay solo(autocross) .
I'm trying to convert the sub belts on my prof ii from wrap-in configuration to snap-in configuration. Aside form the snap-in buckles and LV4 bar slides (and of course the eye bolts and backing plates) is there anything else required for the swap? Thanks!
U dont need a harness bar..they ate shii. Either a roll bar or roll cage. Cabt afford it? Then you shouldn't br using a damn seat brlt harness. Also a bucket seat be great!
No harness bar = no harness. These things have a purpose, it looks cool but if ou want it to do what it's supposed to do you must have a harness bar mounted on your roll bar/cage
So, you know proper race car setup more than the actual manufacturer of true race safety components? Get back to need for speed and leave the real racing to the adults.
