I have this cd,so wonderful to listen Szigeti playing Schubert,is poesie..I have also the Grand Duo with Szigeti..I was a lot inspired to play it,Love Shubert!!
Szigeti, like Menuhin, lost their eminent easy playing, when they got older. Menuhins problem with his bow, Szigeti with a not so pleasant vibrato, sounding pretty senile. Therefor they missed the time to stop playing, but this is always a difficult decision .
The complexity and depth of expression set Szigeti apart from lesser gods. A bit slower vibrato only added a further dimension of humanity to his playing.
